Disappointed

The fairways had not been mown in quite a while, and the rough was even worse. It was the tallest grass I had ever seen in a fairway, was deeper than the rough of my home course. I had trouble multiple times finding my golf ball in the fairway. Sand traps had grass two feet high, they were unplayable as traps. Greens were in poor shape, were not being properly maintained, but at least had been mown. Not sure what is the cause, but they have really let it go. It is an interesting latout, and with proper mowing, cared for sand traps and greens, would be a 4 ot 4.5.

Windy weather
Used cart

Stupid policy on no carts in parking lot.

Silver Rock is a fairly scenic and moderately difficult, especially in the wind. The course was in good shape, and the pace of play was good. However, we finished the last two holes in wind(30-40 MPH gusts) and rain due to a cold front moving through. We drive towards the parking lot after completing the round in the pouring rain only to be yelled at by the bag drop attendants that no carts are allowed in the parking lot. Due to the conditions, that policy should not have been enforced(and my opinion, should not be a practice at any course), which is especially true since they required the cart drivers to sign a waiver of liability to rent the cart. So, I unload at the bag drop and get even more soaked walking to my car while the clubs and bags are sitting at the bag drop getting wetter too. We were planning to eat at the club's restaurant, but passed after the bad experience at the end.

Great seaside links course.

We both really liked the course, but it was not lady friendly. At least three holes had carries of more than 180 yards just to reach the fairway. We spoke to the pro, and she acknowledged it was a problem, but it was being addressed by the construction of ladies tees that would fix the issue. These tees were not yet finished. We would definitely play it again with the new ladies tees.

You will be happy to hear the problem of long carries off the Red Tees with no bail out areas has been addressed as the Pro promised you. The course is now a delight from the Red Tees and can be enjoyed by all. The Red Tees are not Ladies Tees. They can be enjoyed by all for casual golf games. Ideal for senior men also. The changes affect only a handful of holes but make a world of difference. Well done Machrihanish Golf Club.
