Jamestown Park Golf Course
Played On 08/06/2023Always a good track
Course was in excellent condition and greens rolled true. The only delays we had were on the front with a group of 3 and a toddler. One in the group swung and missed the ball 7 consecutive times and then wanted to take a photo op with the toddler before getting in the cart and moving on. One of the other 2 wanted to give lessons while his ball was in the woods on about every shot. This works on Tuesday morning; not Sunday afternoon. Jamestown is always worth the money though.
The Preserve at Jordan Lake Golf Club
Played On 06/21/2017Make sure you don't argue with your Driver!!
I had never played this course but with the deal I got a friend of mine and myself decided to play this one since we were playing 18 at Chapel Ridge that morning. You better make sure you are on good terms with your driver when you play this course! This course has a great layout and was in really good condition. There are some very narrow tee shots on this course and, never playing this course, some very misleading shots. What you see from the tee box isn't always what you're hitting to. Some of the views look narrow but once you get out to the fairway you see your landing area is a little larger than perceived. Then there are some tight fairways that won't allow driver unless you can put it on a string to a 280-300 yard target. The greens were a little hairy but these things happen. Either way, this course was a gem for the price we paid and I will definitely go back.
Foxfire Resort & Golf Club - Red Fox Course
Played On 07/12/2016VERY DISAPPOINTED
I called to book this a week in advance and asked if they had aerated already or would be before we came out. I was told that they had aerated the week before and that by the time we got down there, we should be putting on fantastic greens. Wow. Between the "cabbage heads", burn spots, and craters from divots being made without repair; I would have to say putting yesterday was dreadful. I used to make a trip to Pinehurst a couple of times a year when I was in my early 20s and Foxfire was definitely on the list. Yesterday ruined that for me. Some tee boxes hadn't been mowed and had some weeds growing up on them. From what I remember to what I saw yesterday, disappointment doesn't do justice to how I felt. I'm glad I got a deal on GolfNow for this place but even that didn't make it tolerable. I don't know what went wrong with this place but whatever it is should be fixed immediately. New management, better superintendent, or maybe just some TLC for this place that used to be top notch may work. Please take the time to bring people back to your course. We saw a max of 10 people on the course yesterday. I get that it was HOT HOT HOT but maybe other people feel let down as much as I do.
Forest Oaks Country Club
Played On 07/06/2015Still a gem
This course has always been a pleasure to play and this time was no different. There were a couple of fairways with some damage, but most courses in this area have had the same problem. No greens were burnt up or damaged, other than the obligatory unrepaired divots. Some members at this course have always lived by a different set of rules. All in all, it's still a good challenge and worth every penny of the GolfNow hot deal. Thanks FO!
The Golf Club at Chapel Ridge
Played On 01/02/2015Great course Dreadful pace
I had heard about this course from my father several times. We got a deal on Golf Now and went to play since it was 55 degrees in January. The fairways were in great shape although they were a little short in areas. The greens were mowed well and were in good shape although it was obvious that visitors there were not interested in the golden rule of fix your divot +1. A 10 footer may bounce 3 times. Being a Friday, we expected it to be a little slow. We had a foursome in front of us with a 70 year old woman WALKING! That's right, walking on a Friday at noon. She had the opportunity of riding in a cart with an open seat but chose to walk 75% of the round. As a matter of fact, each one of the players in the group would walk 150 yards after their shot on numerous occasions. I was hoping someone would be manning this but to no avail. Overall this is a really nice course and I will go back, but someone should monitor the players and their pace from time to time.
RamboRyker2, thank you for your kind words! We hope to see you again at the course very soon for another 5-star experience. Thanks for choosing Jamestown Park Golf Course.
