Everyone in the Roanoke Valley knows that this course is more appropriately referred to by its nickname, Hunting Balls. The fairways are tight and the woods are thick. Keep it in the short grass because balls lost to the left/right are almost certainly sacrificed to the golf gods. Course is somewhat short compared others in the area. However it is a good deal for what you pay.

My father and I play a few rounds of golf every year when we visit Myrtle Beach. In 2011 we visited Azalea Sands (the course adjacent) and were disappointed in the course conditions. However, the back side of the course offered a great view of Beachwood, which looked amazing. We played the next day and were not disappointed. By far the best value golf course at the beach. 10/10 would recommend! Dad and I continue to play Beachwood every year.

Westlake has been improving steadily the past several years to become the best public golf course at SML.

It's not worth the money. Go next door to Beachwood - much better value and the course is superb.

The Waterfront is by far the best golf course in the Smith Mountain Lake community. The course offers an entertaining challenge hallmarked by tight fairways and crucial approach shots. Currently the course is in its best condition for the past 10 years! Staff is extremely courteous and the bar/grill offers some of the most delicious food in the area. 10/10 recommend the Waterfront for anyone vacationing in the SML area or just looking for a spectacular round of golf!

This course has a decent enough layout, but lacks proper maintenance. Greens have been in terrible condition the past several years. I would play Westlake, Roanoke CC, or London Downs before I would play here.
