Hot Deal, But Hot Weather

When I was trying to decide whether or not to play, I was confused by the reviews, because the same reviews appeared under both the Resort Course and under the Legend Course. I decided to give it a chance, and to pay an extra few bucks and play the Resort Course. The Resort Course was in very good condition. Nice fairways with green grass and no bare spots. Also nice greens that rolled true. The rental clubs were very nice Calloways. The staff could not have been more friendly. I didn't see or speak to anyone who played the Legend Course, but the Resort Course was in good condition, fair, and fun to play. Tip to those not used to the desert (like me): I thought coming from Florida where the temperatures are in the 90's with high humidity, playing in the summer desert heat with low humidity would be no big deal. WRONG! Get out early in the morning. I didn't tee off until 11 am. Maybe the heat wouldn't affect young bucks who don't take blood pressure medicine and are used to being in a sauna, but I had to stop after 8 holes (planned to play 18) despite pounding the water. I don't care how dry the heat is--110-115 degrees is HOT!! No wonder I played as single--everyone else had more sense and got out early! Definitely give this course a try if in the Palm Spring/Desert Hot Springs area.

Oustanding Condition

From the tee boxes, to the fairways, to the bunkers, to the greens--this course is immaculate. Congratulations to this private community and their course management for having such a wonderful course that is kept in spectacular condition, and thank you for sharing it with us non-residents during the off-season.

Great Course

This is an absolutely beautiful course with very nice amenities. It is a very fair layout with only very errant shots punished with water or trees. Because of the great conditions, it was actually easier to hit good shots than it is off of dry, hard packed fairways on other courses. The greens are smooth and are a little faster than many courses in the area, but were fine once we adjusted to them. The only negative was an experience with the marshal. After finishing hole 7, he claimed we were holding up 3 groups behind us. He came from in front of us, not from behind us. A group of 3 we had been following gradually got more than a hole in front of us. A group of 3 playing behind our group of 4 would occasionally catch us as were putting out, having to wait a minute to hit their approach shots. The marshal told us we were playing too slowly, and said we could skip ahead a hole, or wait and let the groups play through. He didn't like our reply of we'll just pick up the pace. After finishing hole 9, we waited for over 15-20 minutes for the threesome behind us to finally arrive to let them play through. There were no groups behind them that we ever saw for the rest of the round, and not enough cars in the parking lot for there to be other groups behind us. We would have had no problem letting a threesome play through had we been asked. Other than that, the course, the rest of the staff and the amenities were top notch.

Must Play Course in Pooler/Savannah

I play this course every time I come to Pooler/Savannah to visit my son. Because of the spread out layout, each hole feels private. There are no distractions from players on other holes. I am not a long hitter, but I could (potentially) reach every green in regulation except one from the white tees. The greens are smooth and have a moderate speed, but are not scary fast. Errant tee shots can go into the woods that line many of the fairways, but the fairways are not narrow shoots--they are wide enough to stay out of trouble. Plus there is a nice driving range and putting green. And how nice that cold bottled water is already stocked in the ice-filled coolers on each cart. With the quality of the course, the very friendly staff and the price, you will enjoy this course.

Worst Greens I've Ever Seen

I hate to have to say it, but the other recent reviews you will read here are 100% accurate. I hesitated to play the course after reading those reviews, but a friend wanted to go because he had played here years ago and it was his treat. The greens were just as described in the other reviews you will read here: some had weeds, dead spots and even a divot/rut, and the ones that were green were cut so high that it was like putting on fairway grass. "Slow" is too liberal to describe the speed. Is there such as a thing as a negative reading on a Stimp meter? It's a shame, because the course is in a nice setting with beautiful trees, small lakes and pretty birds. I don't know what issues the course has had or faced, but it is not in good shape. However I can't understand why many of the fairways weren't mowed and why the greens that have grass weren't cut to a normal length. As someone else said, if you want to practice approach shots with your irons and you get an inexpensive price to play the course, the course is not crowded (in the off season at least). We didn't see anyone else and played the front 9 in 75 minutes. But if you are looking for a complete golf experience, the greens will leave you terribly disappointed.

Challenging Executive Course

This is not a boring, easy executive (par 60) course. It has holes that require shots land on the greens (you can't roll the ball on through bunkers or water). It also has several holes of decent length that require driver off the tee. The greens are much faster than most courses, which requires precise speed/distance control when putting. Some of the fairways are fairly hard/packed, but otherwise the course is in pretty good shape. Some rounds during Season (when it gets more play) can take 4 hours. Overall, this is a good, challenging Executive Course. It is no pushover. You will enjoy it.
