Portage Country Club
Played On 07/01/2021Velvet greens!
We thought that this course is the best we've played on in a long time. It's so well groomed and the greens are beautiful. Downside: when you miss a putt there's nothing to blame but your own bad aim! I would give this course 5 stars if the holes were easier to follow. Thanks to some "regulars", we were redirected to the 2nd hole and later to a couple of others. It would be very easy for a "first timer" to miss a few holes due to inadequate signage in places. We enjoyed a 5* lunch at the restaurant. Great menu and so delicious!

This course certainly will speed up your game. Swarms of mosquitoes nip at your ankles, neck, back, and head as soon as you pause. Trust me, there were almost no practice swings. If putts didn't drop in 2, we'd take a 3 and run for a sunnier spot. Didn't make much difference whether you were on a green, a fairway, or your cart. These mosquitoes wanted fresh meat. Other players mercifully gave us "bug wipes" which helped reduce our swatting and hopping as we putted. We will never play this course again. It's pretty but so buggy, we're still scratching! It would make an ideal place to practice your ability to focus!

Enjoyed our 18 holes so much! It's not easy but it's within the realm of possibility for an average golfer to snag a few pars. Lots of variation in the holes and greens, enough to challenge but not overwhelm.
After our round, we had delicious grouper sandwiches and fries on the restaurant deck overlooking the gorgeous Swan Lake.

Loved every minute and every vista! Regardless of score, it's well worth the price.

It's an interesting course with very fast greens. The fescue bordering the fairways tends to swallow your ball, so best to stay in the fairway at all times. Some of the bunkers were under repair. My only complaint is that you have no warning of little creekbeds or doglegs that lie ahead out of sight and if it's your first time playing the course, you'll probably get snagged by these.

This is a potentially awesome course, but the fairways are weedy and irregular, greens are bumpy and a mixture of grass, dirt, and sand depending on the hole. It just isn't up to par. This particular day we were besieged with swarming blind mosquitoes. I didn''t know whether to bat the bugs or hit the ball.
Pretty vistas, though, and employees were pleasant.

Greens were perfect...a little undulation, but not enough to make you feel stupid. All sorts of tee shot distances ... you get to use most every club in your bag. There's water, but it isn't too hard to avoid. Pretty, natural landscaping and wildlife to enjoy as you play. You leave with a sense that you had a great time, made a decent number of pars and maybe golf is your game, after all.

I thought this course was fun to play. There was just enough challenge and considering it's summertime in FL, I thought the course was in good shape. Unfor-tunately, the lightning horn sounded before we could finish 18, but again, that's to be expected for afternoon play. We took shelter in the restaurant where I enjoyed the best soft tacos I have had in years, a frosty beer, and some very good karioke singers. All in all, this was a fine experience.
Hi "u00000697081" Thank you so much for the great feedback. The course can be difficult if this is your first time playing it. We are glad that you enjoyed your round with us and hope to see you again soon.
