Westover Golf Club
Played On 04/07/2022Good conditions for April
Played in 3 hours on a cool cloudy day. Took me 9 holes to catch the twosome walking in front of me. Joined up with them on the back and enjoyed their company.
Grass just starting to grow and fertilized was on the greens. Bunkers were not maintained recently but I raked out them where my ball was a few times.
Great layout and one of the longer courses in western mass. Should be in great shape in a week or two.

1st tee time on a Monday morning. Played with two regulars who were nice to play with. They informed me immediately about how bad the course conditions were. Ultimately, I was surprised that I was charged $49 to play a course in this condition.
Front nine greens were filled with bald spots or patches that were not taking. Greens were terrible. The back side were better but still lacking. Greens were receptive and when you went to fix your ball mark there was nothing to the greens.
Bunkers were full of foot prints and we were the 1st group. Seamed like they hadn't been maintained in awhile. Sand was inconsistent from wet and heavy to hard packed.
I didn't see one person working on the course during my round. Many workers driving around but did not witness any work. Front end staff were friendly and accommodating.
Must be better places to play for $49.

Played On 05/18/2019Nice Layout
Course was nice. Starter did a great job pairing up our twosome with an earlier group that had a no-show. Greens were punched recently which if we had known we wouldn't have played. Should give some sort of discount from prime rates given the green situation or at least make it known.
Crab Meadow Golf Course
Played On 05/17/2019muni with very slow greens
nice views of the sound and layout of the back was nice. Front was short and tight. Greens were so slow on a Friday morning. Played with a local who told us they usually are that slow.

Got a hot deal on Golf Now so my two sons and I played on a Monday. Play was slow with a 9:50 tee time. Course was fully booked from my understanding. Lots of funky holes. Back to back par fives on the front where you can't hit driver and the layout is set up for three shots. Humps in middle of greens. Lots of stuff you can't see until you play the hole...course knowledge is key.
GPS on the carts, grill house in the middle of the course so lots of opportunity to spend money on alcohol..hey it's a casino course. Greens were good and conditions were great as well.
If we hadn't shopped for the hot deal I would have been very disappointed. If it's free because you are a gambler, enjoy it.

Played here before and really enjoyed it. This time the course wasn't in great shape and for the money, I've plaid much better courses. Played Crooked Cat at OCN today and it was in much better shape.
No GPS in the carts...for this price?
Staff were great.

Enjoyed our round. Was a warm up round before heading to Orlando for some higher end courses. Proved to be nicer than expected. GPS in the carts. Course was a little wet.

Next to LAX!, Easy to get on and they charge $25 for rentals. Short course and ball are flying into you from everywhere. Greens were good but overall, it's not a course you would play often.
Blackledge Country Club - Gilead Highlands
Played On 04/12/2015Great early season round
Plated the second day they were open in 2015. Course was in pretty good condition with snow only in one bunker. Play was very fast for a 9:00 am Sunday tee time. We followed two group off the first tee and they moved out quickly. Carts were not out and it walked well, about seven miles.
More of a target golf course which I really like as you play every club in the bag. Will look to play again when the course is mid season conditions. I can imagine the greens getting quick.

Played On 04/06/2015Nice early season conditions
Traveled an hour south to get in a round of golf when most local course still were closed. Tough winter and long delay in Western Mass for golf course being open for the season.
Got a hot deal from Golf Now and played the course with cart for $31 including fees. Course was mostly dry, greens had yet to be mowed or rolled. Overall conditions were good for time of year.
Layout was nice. Finished with back to back par fives which was different. Five par three's also. Round was slow to average in time. It was cart paths only so that affected timing I'm sure. Look forward to testing the course later in the season.
Staff were very nice. Talked with clubhouse staff, cart attendants and greens keepers who were moving the holes. All were friendly and helpful where needed.

We have played this course the last few times we traveled to Orlando for some winter golf. It's about fifteen minutes from the airport and is a very large residential community. The course is very nice and fun to play. Staff were nice. I was surprised to find a gratuity on my receipt after the fact. It was only four dollars but it wasn't ever mentioned...I just found it after the round.
On this day we had a line of rain come through that we knew was coming. We pulled over under a tree and waited it out on the sixth hole. Course drained well but we did have the sixth green unplayable.
Until the rain, pace of play was slower than we would have liked but it was consistent and we never waited long. On the ninth tee we ran into two groups. Not sure if they went in and came back out during the rain but in any case play got much slower. At the turn, the group ahead of us stopped for lunch. We were expecting to pick up the pace but after ten we had three groups on eleven ahead of us. It was painful through fourteen. On fifteen tee we had had it and started to drive in. There ws four groups on 15 a par four, 16 had a group on the tee and a foursome in the fairway. The fairway foursome were the group holding up the course. We drove by them but watch and they were not concerned at all about holding up the course. Horrible course etiquette!
We drove up to the 17th tee, par three and the hole was open. We played in, 18 a long par five was totally open as well. That group had at least two holes open in front of them. We told the staff when we came in but they realized it was two late to do anything at that point. We packed up our travel bags for our departure, went in to have lunch and were just finishing lunch when that group completed their round. We watched them play 18. they were totally oblivious to how slow they were. Even with the whole course backed up behind them, they were taking second and third putts on 18. Two of them hit multiple balls in the water that fronts 18.
In summary, the course is nice and well worth the cost but if they can't maintain the pace of play you might want to look elsewhere.
Grand Cypress - North/South

Played this course first on a long weekend of golf. Got a good deal on the tee time. Range balls were included. Greens were nice and fast yet receptive. We had a good pace of play.
Tried to get a replay but they were booked so we went to Champions Gate CC which was another good choice especially for $39.
Hickory Ridge Golf Club
Played On 05/26/2014Nice track, great value @ $37
Played the back tee's on Memorial Day with my two sons. Group ahead of us didn't show so we got off a little early. One of my sons played the course a week earlier when it had been flooded due to heavy storms. Course had recovered well as we found only a few areas still affected. Greens had been aerated earlier and hadn't recovered as well but that most likely was due to the weather. In any case the greens were inconsistent and bumpy.
I had loaded my GPS with the course and found huge discrepancies between the GPS and course markings. We never were sure of yardages on the par threes especially.
Overall it's worth a play. In a week or two with dryer weather I'd expect playing conditions to get nice. We did see numerous workers out on the course. The track is good and challenging. I'll play it again later in the year.
Cold Spring Country Club
Played On 04/13/2014Great First Experience
1st trip to Cold Springs and we will be back. My son and I played on a Sunday morning. We booked at Golfnow Saturday afternoon and paid $50 with cart. We live about 25 minutes away and the ride was nice. Driving up to the course and you can tell they are one of the better courses in Western Ma.
We were met in the empty parking lot by an starter who greeted us nicely. He took our bags and got us setup on a cart. Once we putted a few I inquired about jumping ahead of a few groups as we were only a twosome. The starter put us out as the second group behinds a threesome of members around 9:00 a.m.. The members flew as did we and finished without having to wait once past the first tee.
Course was in spring form but still pretty lush. Once it greens up it will be very nice. Greens rolled very good for it being so early in the year. They were slow but that's expected. Some challenging holes and some easier par fives. Par three's were very nice (longer).
Overall the course is one to play. Really lay's out nicely beyond the gimmicky 18th hole that we played as number 9. You can tell the owners put allot of money into the property. Try it out when you get a chance.
Thank you for your feedback. We take your opinion seriously, and will make sure to address communication regarding aerification so hopefully this does not happen again going forward. Have a great day!
