Shadow Ridge Golf Club
Played On 12/23/2018Great course, slow play
Great layout and condition, but pace of play is too slow to be enjoyable. Common to see 4 groups backed up on the par 5’s, especially on the back 9. Marshal not around much, but when we asked about the pace his reply was, “You’re right on pace, so I don’t know what you’d like us to do.” Our understanding from the staff is that the target pace is about 4.5 hours and there was no sense of need to do anything to make it any faster than that. As this is not aligned with my own opinion on pace of play, I doubt I’ll be back.
San Juan Oaks Golf Club
Played On 06/10/2018Slow
Staff allowed me to go off early on #1 which was great. However, by #10 got bogged down...on #13 I counted 5 (!) groups on the same hole and it took 30 mins to play this hole. No ranger to be found. I gave up and left. Some of the back 9 holes are too difficult for many players which is what I think slows it down. Course was generally in good shape, except for most bunkers with weeds and dirt (not sand). Probably won’t be back for a while.
Mountain Vista Golf Club - San Gorgonio Course
Played On 02/20/2018A bit disappointed
Beware: on many days, the 1:00 tee time is a shotgun start which is a bit odd. They load up the course with 1 or 2 groups on each tee. There really needs to be a notification about this on GolfNow website at time of booking,,
The pre-start process is pretty chaotic, or maybe just hard for an “outsider” to understand (staff make it very clear that this course is mainly for community residents; definitely made us feel like an outsider). Lots of folks buzzing around in their personal golf carts, etc.
Course conditions were good.
Pace of play was ok for first 9 holes but slowed down markedly on second 9.
No driving range on site to warm up. Practice green was loaded with other players (shotgun start) making it hard to even practice putting.
The Bayonet at Bayonet/Black Horse Golf Course
Played On 05/01/2017Great course
Challenging but fair layout will test your skills. You will use most or all clubs in your bag. Beautiful views of the bay on several holes. Fairways and greens in pretty good shape, tee boxes a little rough today.
Pasatiempo Golf Club
Played On 04/30/2017Worth playing at least once
Been waiting to try Pasa for a long time, finally got to do it. Based on all the hype, I went in with crazy high expectations. For the most part, the course lived up to the hype. Some incredible holes, especially #3, 5, 10, 11 and 16 which are among the best I've ever played. Some greens are amazing but crazy difficult: don't be surprised to 4-putt (I did) or even putt it "from to off" the green (I did), but it's all part of the Mackenzie charm and makes you appreciate how the pros occasionally do the same thing at Augusta. It's a very walkable course; lot of hills may tire you out but worth the effort if you can do it, heightens the "old school" feel of the course in my opinion. Range is pretty disappointing but not a huge detractor. All in all a great day but it's pricy, so not someplace I will play frequently. That said, it's a great course for a splurge or special occasion.
