Salt Creek Golf Club
Played On 7/20/2013Links course was fun and challenging
This course is a San Diego secret. Fun shot making on wide fairways allowed the ball to run run run. Elevation changes from tee to green on most holes. Most balls hooked or sliced were either in the desert or creek or gulch and gone for good. The greens were sloping, soft and somewhat fast. However, this is one course I would have replayed if I had the time to do it again.
Carmel Highland Golf Resort
Played On 7/16/2013Sloping fairways and greens are challenging for the weekend golfer
I signed up with GolfNow for the hot deal, great price, as a single. When I arrived I was told I'd be playing with three other singles, but two of them were ok'd to tee up early. That made for really slow play having foursomes in front and them not permitting us to play through. But as far as the course goes, the cross sloped fairways made accurate shot making a priority. The greens were in excellent condition, but their contours made for speed and breaks of your ball hard to read. Still, I enjoyed my outing. I'm not a competitive person so when my ball goes awry I literally laugh it off. I guess I laughed a lot yesterday.
Arizona Golf Resort
Played On 5/10/2013Nice course and facility
The facility is situated across the street from Leisure World and each fairway is lined with residences on both sides. The fairways are flat and wide with very few obstacles to overcome. The greens are mixed grasses and are slightly sloped making for somewhat challenged putting. There is a nice mix seven 3's, six 4's, and five 5's. The 3's are longish with most over 180 - 220 yds. All in all, a nice course for a recreational player.
Tecolote Canyon Golf Course
Played On 5/04/2013Your chance for a hole-in-one
This par 3 course in San Diego is moderately challenging with narrow or sloping fairways and soft greens. If you're off the mark, you'll lose your ball or two, but you'll find just as many when searching for yours. Unfortunately most of the tee boxes are worn, missing grass, and you have to become accustomed to hitting off a hard sandy surface. The price is right if it costs under $20 a round. The practice hard surface putting green does not mirror actual greens on the course and it's difficult to judge speed. I did enjoy the outing, however. I always do no matter the course I play.
Singing Hills Golf Resort at Sycuan - Oak Glen
Played On 4/5/2013Multiple golf courses to choose from are all excellent
I am an average recreational golfer with a 20-24 handicap. If I shoot bogey golf I'm pleased with my game. The course I played on was Oak Glen with wide enough tree lined fairways and contoured challenging greens. Excellent condition greens with soft landings. Not too many bunkers and none which guard the front of the green. It was a slow play but also it was a Friday and This course has a lot of fans. Enjoyed the outing.
Painted Dunes Desert Golf Club - East/West Course
Played On 3/21/2013The course has difficult pin locations on sloping greens.
The golf course is in fact in the middle of the desert. As a recreational golfer, I do not have the shot making skills required to conquer tee to greens. A wayward shot will in all likelihood be lost in the desert brush, so bring extra balls, or lie in one of many bunkers. Of course if you're lucky when out looking for your missed drive, you'll find someone else's lost shot. There are no trees. Being out in the desert on the eastside of the Franklin Mountain range, there is a tendency for excessive winds on occasion and definitely summer heat which although dry will be in the high 90's or single digit 100's. Bring water. Have fun, keep smiling, and shoot straight...
