Love Stonehedge North

My bogey or better friends and I travel 50 minutes from the GR area to play Stonehedge North and Stoatin Brae a few times a year. Stoatin Brae is the best of all of the 6 courses because of its uniqueness, but you pay a good premium compared to the others.

Stonehedge North is a very close second and was actually our first choice when comparing prices 10/04/23. Love the challenging course, the condition of the course, the size of the fairways and greens, and having 6 par 3s, 6 par 4s, and 6 par 5s. Pace of play always seems reasonable at worst. I think three of us were around in 3-3.5 hours.

I will not play Stonehedge South or any of the other 4 courses because they are simply inferior to North and not worth the drive in comparison. Go North...wait, on second thought don't go North...I don't want you taking our tee time.

Incredibly disappointing

I've played this course numerous times over the past 25 years. It's been a year or two since my last trip. And this will have been my last. The front nine has deteriorated but is playable. However, the back nine is in horrible shape. I understand previous flooding from the river will have affected a hole or two but...some holes it is difficult to tell if/where the fairway is. Greens are inconsistent. Traps unattended. There are just too many other courses in the GR area to play to even consider going back here. The clubhouse is run down on the outside and appears it may not have been updated on the inside since I had my wedding reception here 25 years ago shortly after they built the place. Our golf cart was loud and required pushing down on the gas peddle 3+ times each time to get it to go. The whole place takes on the appearance that it is about to go under. Which is sad because it use to be such a fun challenging course.

Hi, thank you for reviewing the course. Let us first start by apologizing for the poor experience you had during your visit. Your feedback about the course is important to us. We are working to get everything up to par. The current condition is by no means the standard we strive to achieve. We are going to escalate your feedback to our team so we can make improvements before your next game, and we will continue to work towards an excellent experience by using your comment for guidance. Thank you for playing Wallinwood Springs Golf Club. We hope to see you again soon.

Northern MIchigan golf without the drive

The staff at the Ravines is very friendly and full of smiles. Each hole on the course is bordered by woods or wetlands, providing ample privacy with no other holes in sight. Greens are speedy and undulating and in nice shape. Many well-placed bunkers. If you are a bogey or better golfer, play the blues. We played the whites, and it seemed a little short.

If I had to choose a negative, it would be that they were closing up the lounge at 7pm on a Friday, so we were unable to stick around for a beverage and bite afterward.

Premiere public course in Grand Rapds

I hadn't played Thousand Oaks in a few years due to the price ($87) and because they only permit members on weekends. However, the deal I was able to get from Golfnow was incredible and unable to pass up.

The course is as I remember it - the best public access course in Kent County. Up north feel with each hole bordered on all sides by woods or wetlands for maximum privacy. Rolling terrain. Fast greens. Higly recommended.

Beware however - we were told in the clubhouse that because we booked via Golfnow, the golf course had the right to move our tee time up or back a half hour without notice to us ahead of time, so show up plenty early. We were moved back 10 minutes, so no biggee.
