Robert Cupp at Palmetto Hall Plantation
Played On 03/24/2023HCP 1 hole playing as par 3 while under renovation
Otherwise, course conditions were better than expected for late March. Got a hot deal, a very good value for a great layout. Some tees and fairways still had late winter/early spring issues, but almost there on first day of Spring. Want to play it again, as you need to know how several greens are actually angled in to the adjacent ponds - tricky, tricky, tricky.

Straightforward, wide open. Decent conditions for January . Very enjoyable
Barony at Port Royal Golf Club
Played On 03/25/2022Tight, strategic and fair
On the island, older courses tend to have had better options and more room for layouts that don’t just maximize home values. This was a challenging but very enjoyable track. Convenient to access, great amenities.
Bobby Jones Golf Course - The Azalea Nine
Played On 09/23/2021Like a Phoenix, Resurgens!
I was against the whole idea. A Buckhead native, I had played the 1932 BJGC 18-hole layout for 50 years., and hated to see the.sizable canopy of old oaks taken down. The deal was good for both City and State, it got the City out of the Underground debacle, and frankly the State will be a better steward. The end result is something really great. Something different, but we’ll-done. A fine walkable nine…really two, since it’s reversible. Outstanding amenities, well designed and operated. A new pleasant, small jewel.
Callahan Golf Links
Played On 07/05/2017Pure, not fancy
Surprisingly interesting layout - the old farm and pasturelands make a beautiful and natural links style course that seems like it always there, just waiting to be revealed. A great golf value for the money with nothing fancy, but everything pure.
Towne Lake Hills Golf Club
Played On 02/11/2017A tricky but not tricked-up favorite
One of my favorites, it's a course that you'll probably attack differently the second time you play it. The layout is tricky, but not tricked-up; with dramatic elevation changes, lots of doglegs, strategic water and waste area hazards, it plays longer than the yardage on the card. Course is consistently in good condition, with great facilities and great staff. It does get a lot of play, and always seem to be full, but is well-managed for a reasonable pace of play.
Classic Gem will disappear soon
1928. Supposedly, Bobby had a hand in course design. Beautiful, fully mature oaks line narrow fairways to small tight greens. Historic, and it's going to change dramatically. The city has agreed to a land swap for State property downtown. The state wants a practice facility, so a trendy fancy-pants driving range, and 9 hole layout will soon replace this hallowed course.
Governor's Towne Club
Played On 08/04/2015first visit makes one want to return
Beautiful course design, long, challenging but fair. Playable and enjoyable as a first visit that makes one want to return. Conditions and maintenance overall are excellent but the greens are struggling with heat and have some inconsistencies, bare spots, and are still recovering from an aeration over a month ago. Uncrowded and unspoiled, with very few homes along the course yet. The very high-end neighborhood has clearly not sold out, and it's notable their magnificent, impressive clubhouse building is still unfinished after more than 10 years. Staff and service are top-notch. A round here is worthwhile, and worth a bit of a premium, but is not quite the top flight private club experience... yet.

Great mountain layout, scenic views, well maintained. Excellent Bar and restaurant. Wonderful value as a resort.
Chastain Park Golf Course
Played On 03/18/2015Geat layout, especially for a muni
Geat layout, especially for a muni - once home to a pro tour event, some seventy years ago. Hilly, with elevation changes. Scenic setting in neighborhood park. Conditions are typically pretty good, course is typically pretty crowded. #18 is one of tougher par 4s anywhere.
The Links at Southwind Country Club
Played On 03/21/2014hopeful for new owners' TLC
Took a chance for a bargain price on a tough, beautiful layout that has gone neglected and without basic turf maintenance for a while. There's a reason it was only $16, but new owners had only been there 6 weeks, and seem committed to bringing it back. Great track, though and scenic layout with amazing rockwork.
Chestatee Golf Club
Played On 10/22/2013Scenic course makes good excuse to stop at the Premium Outlets
Scenic course gives you a view of the N. GA mountains, without going all the way up there. Easy access directly from GA 400, also makes for a good excuse to stop at the nearby Premium Outlet Mall. Well maintained with excellent facilities. Enjoyable round!
Lion Golf Club
Played On 10/19/2013Reopened Lion is already in great condition!
After change in ownership, reopened Lion is already in great condition; Clubhouse/Bar renovations are nearly complete and look great!. Always has been a fine, dramatic layout and tremendous value with GN discounts. Easy to get to off of I-20, which makes distance from Atlanta less of issue. Distance gaps between tee boxes have had my group picking the more playable tees (for us) for a hybrid course, but very enjoyable, scenic round.
Mystery Valley Golf Club
Played On 10/09/2013Very enjoyable, playable, well maintained
Very enjoyable, playable, well maintained. Old fashioned, wide open layout nearly 40 years old now, back when they had lots and lots of land unrestricted by homesites. For a muni, it's a great golf experience and value for the (not much) money.
Legacy Golf Links
Played On 05/08/2013sneak in a quick round on a pretty day
Executive length is great for practice or to sneak in a quick round on a pretty day. There are four short Par 4s and the rest are short Par 3s, but it's a testy enough layout to make you pay attention to club selection and shot execution. Greens were in excellent condition, and really kind of tricky. For beginners, on every green there are also alternate easier hole positions fitted with 12 inch wide cups, and forward tee boxes. (Of course, it can get slow when crowded with novices.) Good driving range and chipping facilities, too, all in a convenient, easy to reach location.
Wolf Creek Golf Course
Played On 4/12/2013Good course, good condition, good value
Good course, good condition, good value. Designed to be a private club, but making a go of public play until housing market recovers. Course is well-maintained, with very serviceable facilities, even if not as plush as originally envisioned. Tough, but fun holes covering both low-lying bottom land and rather hilly terrain, with lots of water coming into play. Convenient to ATL airport, best public course in this area.
Cobblestone Golf Course
Played On 4/9/2013Best municipal golf course I've played.
Best municipal golf course I've played. Resort quality golf with scenic Lake coming into play on multiple holes. Great recent upgrade in quality of greens resulted in tee times becoming a little pricy, but available GN discounts make this still a terrific value. Be sure to play the appropriate tees for your handicap; from the back tees this is a very tough test of all golfing skills.
Lake Arrowhead Yacht & Country Club - Highlands Course
Played On 2/21/2013Terrific value for beautiful mountain setting only a little north of Canton
Beautiful mountain setting only a little north of Canton, with a wonderful new clubhouse and restaurant. Course is terrific; a couple of holes could be called tricked-up, but overall a very playable and scenic shotmaker's course. Discounts make this one of the best values anywhere.
RiverPines Golf Course
Played On 01/26/2013good value for for an enjoyable round; great practice facilities
Well laid out course, good value for for an enjoyable, scenic round. Great practice facilities including a cool 9 hole short par 3 side.
City Club Marietta
Played On 1/23/2013interesting and enjoyable historic shorter course
It's not quite the resort course they wish they were (and try to charge for), but it's an interesting and enjoyable historic shorter course. Originally a country club, it's better than a typical muni, and a good value at golfnow discounts. Full GPS mapping on the carts, which helps with some of the tricked-up shorter holes and elevation changes.
