Recent round at southwyk

Got Lucky for a Sunday 11:30 round as never held up by group in front (never even seen them till 17th hole. and group behind us only seen them once on a par 5 when we were on the green and they were on the tee box. Greens were firm and fast but rolled true. some dried out spots but in general pleased with condition. Some wet pots on the fairways after the heavy rains we had a few days beore but that was to be expected. Bar cart was around every 3 or 4 holes. Shot one of my better rounds of the year so value for money in a even more competive market was good.

First time Visiting Pecan Grove Golf course

The check in was very easy and friendly staff in pro-shop. 5 dollars for unlimited balls to warm up with was nice. Driving range had chipping and bunker area so practice facilities were top notch. grass not artificial turf. every hole had a decent coarse overview sign so no "surprise" hazards. Bundler were well maintained and playable. fairways were receptive and curt well despite drought conditions in southern Texas. Only real complaint was although the greens were in good condition they we quite slow. overall.

Nice to get back to a well maintained Course

Been a while since we had Played Cinco Ranch out in Katy. The course is usually always in good conditon but for winter/fall golf the fair ways and greens were in perfect condition. Tee boxes on a number of the holes had recently been redressed /sodded or they would have gotten 5 out of 5. Fast smooth greens made putting a nice experience compared to a number of lower end course we had played in between. The cart person was by often and provided complimentary coffee. Pro shop staff and stater were very nice as well. if your tired of playing on courses that don't upkeep in the winter than suggest you give Cinco ranch a try again. Worth the extra 20 to enjoy a nice track.

Great track in Cypress

Great little gem just 30 minutes from the galleria. Lots of water but never in play unless you spray your balls right or left. Greens in great shape as was the rest of the course. Danny one of the members joined up with us and he was really nice. Marshall asked a slower foursome to let us play through at the turn which helped speed of play. Will definitely return again.

Early season Golf

Fairways have not wintered well or have been neglected. Lots of dead area, grass less area. Bunkers were good good sand, greens were fast and undulating, actual holes are interesting ie not boring back and forth some challenges and club selection with the wind makes a big difference. had i not gotten senior rate (29 nice that course offers senior rates on weekend as most don't) Wife played with us and from forward tees she enjoyed herself with out having to lose a few sleeves of balls. Tee boxes were not great (long crass and fairway dead spots but other than that enjoyed the round. Just play winter rules and lift and place ball on grass if you can find some . Will return but will give it some time to grow in. . .

Quick round before the Super Bowl

Thought we were going to play a quick 18 holes before the big game. Course was in winter weather conditions and unfortunately the heavy rains over the few weeks had left the course in less than ideal conditions. The grounds crew had done a good job where they could but flooded bunkers are a drainage issue. Been at least 10 years since played the track but we had been wanting to give it try since moving back to the Houston area. On the plus side greens and most fairways were immaculate. The unique holes designed around 18 of golfs famous holes is fun to play and the plaques with the stories make you feel like your playing not only a part of history but where some of the greats have played. If you can get a decent discount still recommend trying but if your paying rack rate may want to wait a month or so till the rest of the course can green up. With only 3 sets of tees wife played from forward (whites) and my friend and I played the blues. With the breeze that was blowing made for a lot of long irons or fairway woods into well protected greens. They have a combo recommendation that I think next time play will try. Closer to 6000 yards with a mix of forward blues and tips. First 9 holes were done in an hour and a half back nine was gridlock and close to 3hours. Cart girl was around often wish the Marshall was. No way with 4 open holes in front of us we should have caught any groups unless slow play.

Response from on 02/09/2018:
We are sorry to see that your overall experience was anything short of 5 stars. The weather recently has made the course extremely wet and cart path only resulting in longer rounds than intended. A few of the holes on the back nine are extremely difficult so adding wet conditions can slow up play. We will take a closer look and see if we can get our Marshall around more frequently to address any back ups. Thank you for pointing this out and we hope you'll give us another try in the near future.

Ok practice for position off the tee box

leave your driver at home if you hit it more than 250 yards. Used mine twice and do to narrow landing areas and OB not worth going for green in one. Greens were fantastic rolled true and made more 10+ footers as long as you started them online you had a chance. Fast but true. Better off practicing long irons or hybrids off the tee boxes. Played with the wife and from the forward tee,s was fun for her as she was able to drive and have a chance to hit on the green on almost every par 4. Pace of play little slow but there was a junior tournament going on in parallel with us. Would play again but probably at a discounted rate. Beer cart on weeekend was by about every 4 holes. staff was friendly. From the tips some challenging par 3’s

Sunday funday

Booked a tee time for sonday morning and bunkers were declared GUR course itself was in good shape. First couple holes a bit slow then things spread out to make for a decent pace. Probably one of my best days off the tee box which helps on this course. Played from the whites in order to relax and enjoy the round and carded a 83 which was one of my best rounds to date. May have been higher without the bunker GUR status but only ended up in 3 bunkers. Free beer with tee time was enjoyable at the turn.

Glad we went Back

Had played this older Resort course in January or February and was a bit rough around the edges but they were doing a lot of work so wanted to give it a another try. Was happy we went back. Wife and I teed off at 930 and were off the course by 1. Was some standing water and bunkers had wet sand but the area had experienced a lot of rain recently so this was expected. Course plays 6500 from the whites and was a test in calm conditions emphasis on drives in order to hit mid rons into the greens. If your not driving 250 yards off the tee suggest you move to the yellow (6600 yds) and enjoy the course instead of punishing yourself with hybrids or fairway woods to the greens. Did not even look at the blues but if you want a more difficult challenge these would bring it in think they were close to 7000 yards. The course is challenging in the fact the most greens are well protected by Bunkers making your approaches key. Not many open throat approaches. Next time I play will choose the yellow and enjoy my round a bit more or at least be able to sue more midirons and not spend as much time in the sand. Would play again. No cart girl on a Sunday morning she may have been out in the afternoon. Greens had been punched 4 weeks ago but really did not effect things. Fairways are lush but definitely undulating so flat lies are a premium. Only complaint but minor was the tee boxes could have been cut a bit lower. I like a very low cut on tee boxes these were about 1/2 and inch. Godo time for a week end and the members were already finishning 9 when we teed off. By the time we finished lots of people teeing up for lower rates in afternoon but for 35 bucks and to avoid afternoon heat with no deleyas it was perfect.

Friday off golf day

Wife and I decided to head back to a course we had not played since we first lived in the Houston back in 2005. Course was showing some wear and tear but staff were amazing. Would have liked to see a bit of a discount as the greens had been dressed and aerated on Monday of this week. When they did the greens they should have done the tee boxes as well needed a hammer to get your tees in. Other then these issues course layout was fun. Course is well bunkered and has a number of hidden water hazards you can not see from the tee box. Some signage stating distance to the water would help but with relatively dry firm conditions and low shot seemed to run an extra 20-30 yards so laying up was not necessarily easy either. Based on how I played I should be trashing the course but at my age we just enjoy the day and time together and modify the rules a bit. (Inside the leather a gimme put on aerated greens) . No beverage cart out so reason for slightly lower course amenities. Would play some different shots or different clubs. Number 10 probably one of the best drives I hit all day only to find a blind water hazard had claimed it. Would play it again but give it some rain to soften things up. And couple weeks to have the greens smooth out.

Enjoyable Sunday afternoon.

Great layout with a number of holes making tee shot club selection critical. Played from the whites with the condones being a bit breezy and provided you were not the correct side of the fairway most greens very receptive. Doglegs and tree lined fairways make finding the fairway and taking trees out of play critical. A number of risk reward holes which hit it correctly and you have a chance at eagle ( driveable par 4 at 250 yards, and relatively short par 5 18th. Fast greens but rolled true. Only see beverage cart once on front and once on the back but she warned us that she was out on her own and the course was full and advised us to double up. Will definitely play it again.

Nice way to spend a Sunday.

Teed off at 11:30 and were off the course in3.5 hours as a 3 some. Some interesting holes but if you have never played it get the yardage book or as the pro. Club selection on tee box is key for some of the shorter par 4. Greens had recently been dressed but were receptive and fast rolling well. Worth the extra drive if you can get a discounted rate but even at online rate of 50 not a bad price for good course in good shape.

Still needs some work but enjoyable course

Courteous staff and fellow golfers allowed my wife and I to tee off on time and play through some slower 4 somes. Finished in 3.5 hours. Course repairs especially on the greens were noticable on the front and still quite bumpy (If inside 2 feet just give yourself a gimme and pick up. Back nine greens coming in beter and rolled smoother. . Enjoyable day but Are a number of other tracks in the Houston area listed for less that are in better shape.

Not at its best

Even when not at its best the Primm courses are wonderful to play. Quite and well maintained. Variety of holes and views as well as tee selections make for a enjoyable round for everyone. Only negative this trip was bumpy greens which had been areated in the not to distant past but not rolled. (bit slow and bumpy). Other minor issue is bunker sand seemed to be gone as most bunkers were very very firm making explosion shots impossible and playing more like a flop shot from dead pan. Still quiet relaxing course worth the money. Had i not booked the Hot Deal, Deal caddy discount 2 days later would have allowed 25 dollar round which would have been an incredibal deal. We payed 70 but still not bad value. We played the Lakes 18.

Played on a Friday morning/afternoon so was expecting slower pace of play

Booked on a hot deal and for 45 bucks excellent deal when in the vegas area. Lighting quick greens tough to read. challenging par 3's and good reachable par 5's. 6700 from the blues so good test for average handicapp. Be sure to check waste area landing as on a couple of holes they are not evident from tee area but when you drive up find yourself in desert protected area. Negative is community golf course and some houses too close to fairways, slicers beware. Large fair ways though not really an issue unless mishit. Rough reasonable so can still make good contact. Should have been quicker but we ran into to larger groups (5 somes? why do courses allow 5?)
