Old Orchard Country Club
Played On 06/21/2018A Course in Need of TLC
This course and I go back about 40 years now and it's infrastructure is still the same as when I first played here. I mean the owner hasn't taken care of things like bridges, bulkheads, retaining walls and there are still some drainage issues. Having said that, the actual playing areas such as fairways and greens are kept in surprisingly good condition as compared to the above mentioned issues. As an example of the kind of golfing challenge you'll face here, the seventh hole is a nice par five island green which usually requires an approach layup. There's a 200 plus yard par three and some interesting doglegs to deal with as well. To sum up; it's worth a play, just mind where you walk when out of your cart.
Eagle Ridge Golf Club - Ridge Course
Played On 06/15/2018Play It While You Can
Sad to say that this course is coming under the knife or perhaps even disappearing altogether; you see, developers are submitting plans to local governments to redevelop the property into housing and commercial purposes. The course is presently surrounded by senior housing and has finally grown into a very nice golf course. It would be a shame to lose it. The layout is good with interesting variations of terrain and format. There are three nine-hole courses the first two are traditional northeast USA style presentations with tree-lined fairways ranging from flat to hilly with large firm greens; the newest 9 is a links style more open design. Pace of play is generally good on weekdays. If you haven't played here yet, you should seriously think about giving it a play while you can!
Cedar Creek Golf Course
Played On 06/08/2018A Good Time in the Fresh Air
A lovely day of golf. Started with the nice people in the club house and the new starter. We were able to get out a little early which is especially appreciated this time of year (local high school golf team begins practice around 2:30 PM). The course is in good condition, freshly mowed fairways and greens; greens are firm and roll true. This course is a good challenge for a broad range of skill levels; after all, how many courses offer a 230 yard (from white tees) par three? The nineteenth hole is a great place to wrap up an enjoyable afternoon with light food and cold beer.
Cream Ridge Golf Club
Played On 07/12/2016Whatever happened to Common Courtesy
Cream Ridge provides a very nice day of golf, except... Whatever happened to common courtesy?!? I'm referring to the fact that there are far too many unreported ball marks and scuffs (from dragging feet) on the greens. Otherwise, the course is a good layout and the pro shop, bar and restaurant are better than most in the public golf sector.
Ocean County Golf Course at Forge Pond
Played On 06/30/2016Home your short game
Leave your driver and fairway metals in the car. This course is under 4000 yards from the back tees; par is 60. Fairways are tight. Greens are slow and rarely flat making two-putts a challenge. Power carts available but not necessary for most.
