Dublin Ranch Golf Course
Played On 07/06/2016Will Challenge your game...
Certainly not a pitch and putt, the Par 4's and 5;s (less than half the holes) are standard length and the Par 3's I dont think I used less than an 8 Iron on any of them.
2 of the Par 3's from the tips are in the 220 range and pretty intimidating tee shots, another 2 are right at 200 and several are in that 155-175 range.
Greens are large and were in relatively good shape, though can see where they would get a little bumpy.
Got a good rate on golf now, I was out early in the morning but it was still pretty windy, so I imagine its always an issue there.
This is a great course to work what I call the ground game, leave the driver and tees in your bag, hit every tee shot from the ground and work on approach shots, distance etc.
Casablanca Resort & Casino
Played On 06/26/2016A different experience in Mesquite...
We were staying at the Casablanca on our recent golf trip, which was our second time in Mesquite for our annual tournament which has gone all over the US. Conestoga which was our preferred course had an outing so we played the Casablanca, which was a great rate and value.
The course kind of reminds me more of some of the middle of the road Scottsdale courses, desert, some houses, relatively flat, etc more than the courses I have played in Mesquite, most of them seemed to have the elevation changes and a lot of rock formation hillside golfing where Casablanca is more your flat desert course.
Its a solid course if I were doing a trip/tournament and it was part of the rotation, I would lead off with it as playing it after WC was a little of a letdown shall we say, but its certainly a track that if it were on its own somewhere would get probably a little more love.
Wolf Creek Golf Club
Played On 06/25/2016Wolf Creek does not disappoint
Wolf Creek is just a great golf experience. It not overly long, we played the 6300 yard tees, but so many elevation changes and the greens are a challenge.
Have been to Mesquite and played it twice now, its just a great track, one of my all time favorites.
Driving a cart can be a little hairy at times as many steep slopes, and the carts dont seem to have restrictors so you hear about a lot of crashes and accidents and even going down the hills the brakes lock on you and you hear skidding brakes throughout the day.
But the scenery is outstanding and the golf course is fantastic.
Cascata
Played On 06/23/2016Great Experience
My plans changed a bit, and I had Cascata on my radar so when the day opened up I jumped at the chance.
Its about 20-25 minutes from Vegas, I Ubered from the Strip, it was like $25 each way so not too bad, especially if there is more than 1.
The experience is fantastic, the clubhouse has water running through it, you get your carts inside just down the stairs from the proshop, and not in a garage, but feels like you are driving them off a showroom floor or something, Very cool.
Your group must take a forecaddie, its worth it especially the first time as there are a lot of nuances that they can help you with as far was what can be carried, shot lines, and reading the greens which are very challenging. Our group had a FC named Malakai he did a great job for us. Would recommend him to you and your group.
The course is outstanding, its Vegas and the pricing can be a little much, but I cant imagine the 2 $500 courses being $300 better than Cascata (certainly not the Winn from what I have heard) and having played Bali Hai, which charges not that much less than Cascata, the two are not even close in terms of course and golf experience, Cascata is in a completely category than BH.
I have been fortunate to play some of the highest ranked courses through the years and I would put Cascata certainly in my top tier of courses.
Canyon Lakes Golf Course & Brewery
Played On 06/12/2016Canyon Lakes
Made a tee time, go there early figured would putt around if they could not get me out, not only did they get me out, but suggested I play the back because nobody had come through in a while, this worked out great as I was able to play 5 holes before hitting another group. In all the round took about 3 hours.
Course was in pretty good shape.
Stevens Park Golf Course
Played On 06/26/2015Impressed with Stevens Park
Was the opening round in our annual buddies golf tournament, we are in our 24th year, this year went to Dallas. Had read about the renovation and course got excellent marks in some of the different homework I did to choose courses. It did not disappoint. Greens had recently been sanded so still a lot of that on there, so that was a slight downer, but didnt disappoint too much.
Food and Bev was a little odd. So there was no food and beverage cart on the course until very late in the round. All of us who golf and like to have a couple pops on the course have read the "No outside food and beverage on the course" signs at pretty much in America, however these guys took it to a little bit of an extreme.
One of my playing partners day 1 had a soft cooler in his golf bag, he brings it in case a course (especially in a hot location like Dallas) doesnt have coolers, someone spotted it and confiscated it, even though it had nothing in it. He got it back after the round. They had little to no water coolers on the course, which on the summer in Dallas I found a little odd.
Course layout kind of unique, there are back to back par 3's, which is odd, but one thing I would say I would of like to of seen there is a variance, I think I hit the same club on both holes. There are some snapping dog legs so be careful not to drive through them.
Overall though, very much enjoyed the course. Would 100% play again if I was in the area.
Cowboys Golf Club
Played On 11/28/2014Very Nice Course but way overpriced...
Played here on a trip to see a Cowboys game last season, I had brought my clubs but the price-tag was going to keep me away, ended up getting the 1 "Hot Deal" on GolfNow, so played it for less than $100. But the RackRate, I believe is $175+
Its a very nice course, challenging, conditions and greens are top notch. I have played a lot of courses around the country and I would put the course probably in my top 25 for sure, but from a value standpoint, I just cant give it my recommendation. With the food, etc a reasonable price is probably like $135 prime weekend time slot, but discounted for later times, weekdays, etc to probably a $90 course?
Thanks for the great review and recommendation! Hopefully seeya back again. Malachi
