Best Public Course Under $100

This course could charge more for their tee times if they wanted but they don't. It's an amazing course, well maintained and for $48 in the summer during prime play, you won't beat it anywhere in the Midwest. I rate courses for a golf publication and this course hits all the marks. A little bunker revival is really all it needs. Greens are as good as you will find anywhere.

Expensive Walk but Great

Playing the Black course was a nice experience. The property of Streamsong is pretty unique and part of the draw. The Black has a beautiful layout and landscape. It’s a great course to walk and feel the course with your feet. Greens are firm and fast but that’s about all I have to say positive about the greens. The designs of almost all of them are extreme for even a scratch golfer. Many of the greens are runoff areas and the usable green space is extremely small for pin placements. I loved the waste bunker areas and the runoffs from green and fairway straight into the sandy areas. Reminded me of Pinehurst and other Coore Crenshaw layouts in the sand areas of the US. I haven’t played the red or blue but it sounds like they are a little more visually appealing/memorable than the black. Greens fees food and merchandise are extremely expensive. I would feel ok paying $150 for the black course but not $260 which is the same as Whistling Straights. Will be back to play red and blue and eventually the 4th course slated to break ground later this year.

Great course, Excellent Condition

RTJ was a great track. I played today in the 2nd group and the course was in as good of condition as any non-private club south of the Mason Dixon. Plays to a true 7000 from the gold tees which made me hit every club in my bag. Only one hole touches the ocean which is 10 green and 11 tee so don't think this is an ocean lined course. Plays along many inlets and coves. I only had 2 real complaints: 1) the greens we're very green and healthy but didn't touch 10 on the stimp meter. The course would be even better with greens that rolled at a better speed. First thing in the morning they should have been rolling better 2) we had 6 plugged bunker shots in our 3-some, only 1 of which was greenside. The sand is extremely heavy and over done in most places. A 3w should not plug in the bottom of a fairway bunker as mine did on 18.

Outside of Harbor Town this is probably the best conditioned and hardest course in HH. I think $130 is a bit steep, probably closer to $90 for fair value.
