Suburb Steal

What a great deal to play a pretty fun course. So many entertaining holes, great par 3's and a pretty good routing. Really hate the transition between 1 and 2 where the 15th hole tees off. Very dangerous as we were essentially hitting over other carts to play our hole. Wish they'd build some sort of covered bridge there to protect golfers heading to 15 but, otherwise this course was in fantastic shape and the service is always great. The two island greens are fun to play every time. Don't miss this one if you're in the NW Twin Cities. Way underrated.

Suburban Star

There aren't a lot of great courses in the NW suburbs of the Twin Cities beyond Rush Creek, but considering Wild Marsh is HALF the cost to play as Rush, and only another 15 miles out, I consider it a steal to play, especially if you walk it. The front nine is stellar and open with lake views galore. The back is a bit more challenging and tight, but I consider this and Fox Hollow to easily be the two best courses up here.

Big Time Fun

Giants Ridge has two golf courses. Most people seem to prefer the Top 35 in the country Quarry course. I definitely prefer (the former Top 100) Legend.

We played this round on GolfBikes, motorized bicycles, and couldn't have had more fun.

I LOVE the "shotgun" starter holes at 1 and 10 that launch out from the clubhouse over the ravine. The front has a few really fun holes, like the Par 5 fifth hole with the Giant footprint bunker. The back nine is even better with what I consider to be "Minnesota's Best Golf Hole" at the Par 3 17th. I could stand on that tee box forever. I don't know why Legend doesn't get the love that Quarry gets. I absolutely love it.

Jeff Brauer is extremely underrated as an architect and has built four stellar courses in Northern Minnesota that are each "must plays" for their own reasons. I consider Wilderness his best, but insist everyone should play all four.

Brauer Power

Jeff Brauer has built four stellar golf courses here in UP NORTH Minnesota and Quarry is his most revered-a Top 35 US golf course according to Golf Digest. Everything is excellent here, from the staff to the service, to the amenities, and riding the course on the GolfBikes was a new kind of awesome.

The Quarry course is NOT a course for beginners. Regardless of which tees you play it is bound to require your best play. It is a ruggedly beautiful round and single-digit handicappers definitely will love every bit of it. It is absolutely a must-play, and Head Golf Professional John Kendall is without a doubt one of the state's best golf ambassadors.

Most Underrated Course in America

Played it twice in two days...averaged 4:07 to play 18. 17th and 18th rounds I've played at the Wilderness overall in the past 7 years and every single time it has been in IMMACULATE condition. I would contend that this course has the COUNTRY's best General Manager (in Tom Beaudry), best Golf Chef in Chef Quaid, best 19th Hole at The Wilderness Grille and is one of the most fun/beautiful rounds of golf you can find in America. Only 30 minutes from the twin Brauer courses at Giants Ridge, there is NO EXCUSE for anyone within 500 miles of here to not come up and play all three...and I'd expect The Wilderness to be your favorite.

Thank you for your loyalty! We always enjoy when you visit our property and your continued positive feedback. I will make sure to share your compliments with the Tom and Quaid. If anyone has a couple days they can set aside to play The Wilderness and Giants Ridge it is definitely worth the drive. See you in 2018!

#2 Course in Minnesota

Regardless of which national publication's list you trust, I've played their respective Best in States---all of them---and while I personally feel The Wilderness is MN's best course, I have felt for the past 8 years that Deacon's Lodge is 2nd best. I love the courses at GR and MoGL, but this is Arnold Palmer's best design in America, and is neck and neck with Tralee in Ireland for his best global design. It obviously helps that the superintendent is excellent, that Mark Neva and his crew know how to run a golf facility and that Dave and his entire team at Breezy are among the best in the business… it makes this course a shoe-in for Top 100 in America… (and yet everyone seems to be missing the boat). Trust me, if you haven't played this course… do so and soon. It was in fantastic shape in June, and I'm playing it again tomorrow! A MUST PLAY for anyone visiting Brainerd.

#1 Course in Twin Cities

Technically, Troy Burne is in Wisconsin, but everyone in the Cities (MN) claims it as ours. In my opinion this is the most underrated course in Wisconsin--only recently being acknowledged by the national publications in the state rankings. I've played 308 courses in the United States and this is in my Top 25. I'm seldom an advocate of claiming a $100 round as a "great value" but if there were one course in the Twin Cities area that I believe is "worth that" it's Troy Burne. The head pro, and golf director (Dave and Brent) are both awesome guys and will do anything they can to make your day better. Always great conditions, so many beautiful holes. Love this place.

Southeast MN's Best Public Course

The Jewel is a beautiful Hale Irwin design surrounded by gorgeous bluffs and operated by one of the most generous, hard working guys in the business. A great event and tournament host, with some pretty challenging holes, this is where everyone in SE Minnesota wishes they could play every day.

Don't Get It

This course is a collection of terrible and dangerous holes with a few nice ones. The back and forth fairways and blind shots led to our group almost getting hit FIVE different times. The back has a few nice new holes but the 3-pars are all the same distance and the creativity in the design was mostly lacking. Worst service I've ever had at any course in South Dakota. Terribly disappointed. Came here with really high expectations. Will definitely never go back.
