Breaking Up Is Hard To Do

My last two rounds at this place my tee time has been delayed, the starters play clear favoritism and don't respect the visitors tee time reservation. On hole 3 my cart went into a "locked" setting and shut the cart down on a hole the cart never left the path. It eventually "unlocked" after more than 5 min of not moving at all. We were playing on a Sunday, warm, humid weather. First water cooler was empty but we were told they were changing them out while we were in the middle of that hole. Second water cooler 5 holes later, empty. We make the turn and alert the clubhouse of there being no water on the course and grabbed drinks at the turn because there is no drink cart on the course. Water cooler at 13, empty. We call the clubhouse from that hole and alert them once again asking for water as it was hot and humid and my wife is 5 months pregnant. Get to water closet at 17 and it doesn't even have a cooler in it. Unreal that a course that charges $73 on the weekend doesn't have a drink cart on course and not ANY water available on course. UNREAL!

Lastly we get to 18, drive out to the fairway and the cart just shuts down in "lock" mode. There were signs that said wet area keep out in certain small areas but NOTHING about carts on path ONLY and we were not in any of those areas. We had to pack our things in the middle of the fairway and walk in, leaving the cart as it wouldn't even move an inch.

I used to love this place, you can see my previous posts. But after the last couple trips out there, the lack of respect as a visitor and just the overall amenities of a course of that caliber I will not recommend this course with this management to anyone anymore. Their website says "we pride ourselves on the high quality of magnificent golf, superb amenities and outstanding service that we offer our valued customers". I assure you there is a complete lack of "superb amenities" or even basic ones and visitors will not feel like valued customers.

Quaint Park Course

There is nothing flashy or dramatic about this course but much like the customer service and staff friendliness the little things go a very long way. It's a fun course with some legs and hills, narrow shoots off the tee and does call for a fair number of shots. Fairways and greens were well manicured, not all that fast but not upsettingly slow either. There were more walkers and women than I've seen on any course on the weekend and I think that says a lot about the hospitality of the course. The staff is really friendly and informative for the visitor and the locals we were paired up with were extremely friendly and welcoming as well. I would highly recommend this course to anyone but if you're someone new to the game, a higher handicap and/or just feel uncomfortable at other course, this place should be on your list.

No more, thanks....

I have zero interest if ever playing this course again. What a joke! Overrated to say the least. The bunkers are absolutely horrific. I was in a green side bunker getting ready to splash out and my club gets caught up in some plastic lining and it did a number on my wrist. That lining coming up everywhere and if it's not it's because they put two and a half foot of sand in the others. Over priced, overrated, trash heap, literally....

Teed off 20 min late. Course is SHORT and slightly narrow. Greens are VERY slow. This course is definitely perfect for those 50 and older. Does have some character to it which is the only thing that made it enjoyable. Course layout is horrible, the architect should've just designed it from clubhouse to hotel that would've been convenient. Nothing here that makes you want to come back if you're just visiting like I was.

Thanks, Jack?

There is so little I enjoyed about this course it's sad. Hit some nice shots into the greens and drove up to find I'd rolled off and was 20-40 yards off the green. To many tee shots that are just dumb with fairways that end. Only used driver a few times. Unfair and not fun to play it for a first time. As far as big league courses go, this was by far my least favorite.

Dotting the I's

I was really impressed with the course conditions. The course is in great shape. We were first tee so pace of play was perfect. Saw a lot of staff working hard on the course. First course all season that I actually saw maintenance on the bunkers. As a first timer to the course, the greens were challenging. Pay attention to pin placements on first visit. I enjoyed the layout and the course conditions are unmatched right now. Half price on Monday Tuesday, Go Play!

Practice Round

Some guys really love this course but to each their own. This course makes for great practice round or fine tuning your irons for the better player. With the exceptions of the par 5's you can just leave the driver in the bag and really you don't need it there either. Hit irons or hybrid off the tee and practice some different shots. The undulation of the greens calls for better shots into certain flags which makes it a little more fun the more times you play this course. Because of the length this course plays pretty easy overall.

Staff isn't the friendliest, bordering rude. The course plays super short but is in decent shape with the green speeds and lack of raking bunkers my only complaint. I will only play this course if I can find a deal because it's just not as good as they think.

The Good, The Bad, The Ugly

They're doing so many good things at George Dunne. The course is really well manicured and the staff is some of the friendliest I've come across anywhere. The greens roll true and the course plays very fair. That's the good.

The bad is that I've played this course a few times this year and it is always just completely soaked. And I mean SOAKED. I can't remember the last time it rained and yet the fairways are just puddled and give zero roll. It's lift, clean and place depending on how early you play.

The ugly, they can't control too much and that is that there is some really really bad golf being played on this course. Like some other reviews have pointed out the pace of play can be slow. But in a time where courses are struggling to stay open, it's nice to see a course as busy as it is. Just keep that in mind if you're one of those guys who can't appreciate the game growing and insist on playing your 18 hole round in an 1:45 min.

Golf Clap

What's not to like? The course has a really nice layout, it's really well kept. The greens roll really well unless the patrons fail to fix their ball marks. This place offers everything you would want when you go to a place like this. I even applaud the staff who have been hospitable and friendly the two times I've been there. It bothers me when I show up to a place with a hot deal rate and get treated poorly. Not here, not at all. From the clubhouse to the starter and even the rangers, they all make you feel welcome. The replay rate is really great too. This place is one of my new favorite place in the Chicagoland area. And the Grumpy Goat does nothing but compliment the experience.

Um, what happened?

This course has gone downhill significantly over the past couple years. The bunkers are in terrible shape, I'm not sure what they're doing with the tees but the tips aren't even an option with markers and some boxes aren't even mowed. Course is pretty unsightly and I was embarrassed to have brought a friend with me who had never seen the course before. Won't be back until something changes.

Better than average

First I'm a big fan of the course layout. I was expecting the typical old school CC feel but this course has great character. There are some really short par 4's (take caution on #15) but the par 3 will challenge you. The overall condition of the course was very nice as well. Cons; greens were slower than most but in fairness rolled well, bunkers have enough sand in them for 3 more courses, $5 for a cart key is bit obnoxious. This course could be a lot more enjoyable but for me the course and the experience puts it right at better than average.

Slow Grind

It didn't help that GolfNow scheduled tee times every 3 min. so I wasn't expecting a whole lot as far as pace of play. Staff, starter and cart attendant, were very friendly. I enjoyed the course conditions and layout. It was only a little breezy but the course played extremely fair and true. I've found it to be priced a little high but definitely worth a trip if you catch a deal.

Best in the D.R.

This course is the best course I've ever played. If you're looking to play golf this is a legit course to test your skills. Corales gives you that big course, tour feel. Sure Espada's oceanside holes are prettier but you don't get as much course. It's definitely worth the splurge, I can't say enough good things about Corales. It plays fair and true and I like the longer tee options.

Season Isn't Over Yet

No, this isn't the first time I've played this course. Yes, I do thoroughly enjoy this course on a bad day. BUT, this course, for late in the season early November, is in immaculate shape. The course has always been in really nice shape and I know it's under new management but it's far and away in better shape than 99.9% of the courses in northern Indiana/southern Michigan/Chicago.

Greens have been punched, probably 6-7 weeks prior. Greens rolled well. And the rest of the course was excellent. Bunkers appear to have been worked on and are in great shape. Don't necessarily like the change on #11 but it will look better. My wife and I feel its well worth the just under 2 hr drive from the city to go play.If there is decent weather the next couple weeks you should definitely hit it up because it's holding its own right now.

Fair & Challenging

Links to woodland back to links, this course has an interesting feel to it. Very fun track with a fair amount of challenges. Some hole call for attention to the tee shot others more technique around the greens with some challenging pin placements. Windy conditions just adds to the fun.

Cons. are the very unappealing trash dump and all the truck traffic. Really really poor placement for a golf course. It's very unsightly and would be the reason I wouldn't go back. There are other courses that offer the same and don't have disgusting sights and toxic air. Golf is fun and relaxing and there's no tranquil feel to this place at all. You have to put the blinders on and just look at the 300 yards in front of your face.

Pleasantly Surprised

Typically you don't expect a lot out of a $25 golfnow course but let me tell you, that is completely selling this place short. The design is interesting and fun. The course was in pretty good shape. The greens might keep you up at night...they are lightning slick.

Overall I would generally rate a course like this 4 stars but for what it cost it's well worth your time to check it out.

Really Pete?

So first off, Sunday afternoon hot deal for $31, playing after a college match, getting to start on the back side, finished round in 3hrs 15 min. It was a pretty good day with pretty good course conditions with it being set for the match.

More than friendly staff. I still say anytime you have a hot deal from golf now you will get treated differently at the majority of the places out there. Wasn't true here. I was impressed with the customer service, everything from direction to the first tee (simple I know but I appreciate the little things), I was also told my twosome could join the scheduled twosome or play by ourselves (never happens), we were given a pin placement sheet since they were at tournament positions, and they allowed us to start off the back because there was a cluster going off of #1. I was even given excellent dinner suggestions after we finished.

The course itself was in pretty good condition. The greens were a little beat up, clearly have an issue with birds feeding on a couple greens, but overall they rolled well. I believe the bunkers have more sand in them than sand on North Ave and Montrose beaches combined. They are exceptionally, um, fluffy. Design, was, nice? 6898 yards the shortest way you can possibly play it. Kept the driver in the bag more than a handful of times because one, I didn't have a landing and two, I could hit a hybrid and a wedge in. With the exception of a couple holes it felt more like a 6200 yard course. Par 5 #6 I went driver, 9iron in and thats in cool conditions where the ball wasn't flying at all.

Overall I really enjoyed this course. At full price I wouldn't be impressed but I wouldn't be that disappointed either.

3's & 5's

Really, really odd design. 4 par 3's on the front, 3 par 5's on the back. Don't really care for that aspect but the course as a whole was in nice shape, fairly friendly staff. It's a nice little place to play. It's a nice place to run to if you want to mix things up. Due to the design it's a real change of pace.

Maybe Best in Chicagoland

I really, really liked this course. It has a lot to offer. I found it very challenging with never having played it before and no one in my group having played it either. Course was in great shape and took a lot of water just before our tee time. Greens were just short of lighting fast but held really well, I'm glad it rained. Really fun track. Demands your attention off the tees and then you can attack if you know the greens and pin placements. Definitely worth the drive from the city, even worth the price and I'm cheap.

The Verge of Greatness

This course has the capability of being really nice. But it's not there, yet. Their residential rates are what all guest should expect to play for a course like this. The course design is fun. The greens on the other hand are horrific. Evidently divot tools are hard to come by in New Lenox.

Course calls for accuracy off the tee, doglegs, narrow landings, and tight shoots (9th from the tips). Greens hold well and roll fair, after you fix numerous divots and spike tears. Staff was hands down the most hospitable staff I've come across in a long time. Food and drink is reasonably priced as stated in previous posts. One absurd incident is when you order a drink on the course from the "drink cart", they have to drive back to the clubhouse to make said drink and then come back in 3 or 4 holes…Plan appropriately.
