Bad weather but still a good time

Wife and I took advantage of bad weather and empty course to putz around The Meadows on a Friday in the fall. No leaves which is always a plus in the fall. 1st time wife played this course and she thought it was beautiful and fun from the red tees. She is more used to short courses but appreciated the length and had fun on the greens. This place is always great and love the layout so much for someone who sprays the driver it's not as tight as it looks. Always will remain a must play every year.

Fun and different - greens were tough

I think I lost 1 ball on the 1st tee and then kept it the whole rest of the round which for me is a great metric to how open the course is and playable. Some tough driving holes out here where things could go very wrong. The little yardage book on the cart is a helpful tool if you use it. I appreciate they tried to line you up with guides like on the par 5 13 with the numbers on the trees. Good idea.
Greens just had my number all day, a bit windy too on some of the holes up top with the views. Love the views for sure of the bay. I couldn't gauge the speeds well, when they were fast, they were super fast and when I was up hill I just couldn't bring myself to hit it hard enough so then I'd come up short. Really good test here and great option in the TCity area.
Hole 15 and 16 were fun and different but I wish they weren't back to back. Back to back short par 4, just weird to have in that home stretch back to back.

I like it

Some good holes here at Maplecrest for sure. Some small greens and getable holes but then you drive up to some and have to think about where to hit it off the tee. I forget what hole on the back, maybe 15 or 16 but a huge tree protects the green and 300 yard hole has you wanting to hit driver but if you hit it into the tree it likely will kick into the forest.
OK to bring the wild driver here on most holes as it will be findable. I was happy with green conditions and speeds. Some tee boxes have seen some use but it's mid August and we've had lots of rounds played so expecting that.
Great value for 18 holes with cart on a Saturday AM. Happy to play it again.

Great time at Browns Lake

This is my kind of course. I've been blowing my driver all over the place and while you need to keep watch in the other fairways it was back and forth routing which allows for consistent finding of golf balls and shooting over, under and thru trees to get back in play.
Some great elevation change for southern WI that made some holes much harder. Loved the 3rd hole par 3 over the bridge and like I was talking about 7 plays up the hill very difficult to figure out approach shot to a small green on the perch.
Conditions were great for what we payed and minimal pitch marks on the greens so kudos to the golfers who play here taking care of their place or the superintendent team working overtime to keep things with minimal divot marks.
Way to go Browns Lake, can't wait to try Ives Grove.

Greens so good

Best greens I've putted on with respect to speed in awhile. They were fast and true, but I wish I could have seen less pitch marks. Tons showing and I know I was playing at 5pm so expected but I must have been playing behind a few groups with the inability to bend over and fix.
I like the expansive scenery you get to see here and love the fact everything is separated by strips of fescue grass. It was windy, which seems to be a constant here and I really liked the holes along the large boulders. Added some good color and a strong visual element to the holes where those ran along the side.
Must play for sure while in WI and I can see why this is included on players top lists.
Go play.

Glad I crossed this one off the list

Played very well on the back nine but the course was very enjoyable all the way around. I love that you can spray the ball off the tee a bit and just be a fairway over or have to punch out under a tree but no lost balls is always a fun round. Good test of tee shots and the in cart GPS made finding out the distance and aiming point easy. The challenge on this course is the green speed and size. Very fast greens so if you miss on wrong side it's 3 putt city and pretty small and normal shape. Expect to be on the collar a bunch but we found putting from there was a predictable ball path. Great conditions and noticed more than once on the greens minimal ball marks. So they either train the regulars well or have a great staff which fixes throughout the day.
$80 is steep for a Monday afternoon but a splurge round is worth it. We felt alone on the course but had 3 groups right in front of us so on a busy day I can see it being a little wild with balls flying around a bit.
Sidenote: Starter was shocked we paid $80. He said, WOW is that how much it is to play here nowadays? Didn't feel great for me and my playing partners but we march one and had a great one. It's only money.

It was good

I think it wasn't great for me as I've heard it talked up so much so maybe had too high of expectations. Tons of sand right in landing areas and in target zones make for a tough time. I was surprised at how the speed of the greens a bit later in the day as I chased the sun in. Seemed like they almost watered them too much to keep them alive but was expecting some faster roll.
I believe a lot of the flowerbeds are being redone or planned to be redone as spray paint on the ground so some of the beautification of the course not really showing. I wasn't blown away but it was a must play to cross off the list.

Good walk, good test, flowers are looking good

10 and 11 are great golf holes and nice to have them back to back with the bending par 5 up the hill and then after a good drive, semi reachable as well. 11 gets tight and even a good drive could be in danger. Similar on some other holes too when fairways cut out like maybe 16 too?
I liked the difference in the holes where you didn't have to just bomb driver on every par 4 and par 5. If I play those holes again I'd be more strategic which is fun for repeat playability to play them differently.
Conditions were good, clubhouse looks like a fun place to hang post round, especially on the weekends.
Flowers looked awesome, especially liliy of the valley on 18 tee box, you can tell someone cares alot about those areas. I was surprised to see wood tee box signs w/ all the metal work in the clubhouse, roundabout and even the bathrooms.
1 rate all day is a bit of a bummer, paid the same to walk as to ride. I get it's my choice to walk but it does just put a weird taste in your mouth.

Wish this course was on GolfNow so I can play more

If it's not on GolfNow it just doesn't hit my brain to look at what they have to offer as I have to open up another website and sign in. Anywho, the course has always been great and continues to be well kept. I'm sure they've been busy this year and tees, fairways, approaches and greens were in good shape and not beat up or over played looking at all.
We played the back and got directed over there as a group of 8 who was on the tee behind another group of 8. Very cool, but for a Saturday at Noon I'm surprised they didn't have a full front 9 turning to the back. We never saw anyone behind us so awesome to play our game semi alone out there.
The back is a great test, 11 and 14 are tight/tough tee shots and 12, 15 and 16 are blow it wherever and you'll find it. Love that mix.
The best part about this course is you can pack in your own coolers full of beer, makes the $33 for 9 holes riding feel like they can get away w/ more dollars but I'm sure a corkage fee wouldn't go over well in West MI. Like this place, add those times to GolfNow so I can play more.

Looking Good Quail Ridge

Love this place to beef up your fairways hit and greens in reg stats as the fairways and greens are pretty large. The 1st fairway is as big as the parking lot in the landing zone. Monster fairway. I like the amount of target golf holes vs. hit drive and go find it holes here on the front nine. I can't remember playing the back and what those are like but a good mix on the front for sure.
Tall grass is growing like crazy in this area and no exception here so some wayward tee sheets will be tough to find but I noticed they cut it down in 2 areas where it was going thru a split fairway or too close to rough to make things more playable. I commend the staff for that. I think par 5 3rd was one good example where if it wasn't cut it'd be a blind shot into the green.
I know the course is getting 250-300 plus players each day due to covid surge in rounds and it doesn't look like it condition wise. They have the divot bottles on the carts and on the par 3 tee boxes so while we waited for our gaggle of twosomes and singles to play the hole we'd empty those bottles. I didn't see too many divots in the rough/fairways from previous days so they are taking care of things in the heavy traffic for sure.

So many bridges...

Great vibe here at Solitude Links, the clubhouse and the 1st tee, 10th tee, 9th green, putting greens, gazebo and deck I'm sure when it's not covid time are bumping and a lot of fun. Today on the other hand when we played it was quiet, early and peaceful. We played before all the amenities could be used but it was a great day.
9 holes of very target style golf. I think I hit driver 4 times from the blue tees on the front 9 and I remember one of them looking back and shouldn't have. It's long iron and 160-180 into the green as there is water everywhere. If you are scared of playing from 6700 yards or more this would be a good course to test it out as the forward tees bring in a ton more trouble if you can hit it 220-260 off the tee or more.
I was amazed at how many bridges this place had, at least 1 bridge per hole and on the 2nd or 3rd hole I remember seeing a bridge to an island w/ nothing on it. Just an embarrassment of richness on the bridges, something different for sure. Also amazed the 1st hole is a choose your own adventure. Par 4 or par 5 you pick the flag which is kind of cool and odd but mostly cool and different.
Conditions were good and actually very wet so they must be pumping the irrigation hard, long heather grass was long and penal which is how you want it.
I'd play it again for sure and interested to see if the back has as many bridges, that could be an all time bridge count per 18 holes. Fun round of golf in the AM on a perfect weather holiday.

Good Memories Playing Here

Great walk on a perfect weekday morning round before the crowds came in. Walked 9 holes and it was delightful. Course is in great shape, long prairie style grass seems like in deep summer length already likely due to the early heavy rains. If you spray the ball or can't carry a few hazards off the tee you'll be stomping around in it. A few things you need to mentally prepare for here:
1. First 9 par 3 are on hole 6 and 8. So you have to go 5 holes of driver off the tee before you get the luxury of a par 3.
2. For walkers, the walk in between 2 green and 3 tee and 8 green and 9 tee are under the train tracks. Scary looking one way tunnel but the walk lets you clear your head a bit so be ready for it and enjoy the views and wildlife.
Always liked the course and wouldn't have played it unless it was on GolfNow so glad to see their inventory there, the prepaid tee time made it easy to go from parking lot directly to first tee. For covid golf conditions, that was easiest experience I've had yet.

Another Perfect Round of Golf at Pilgrim's Run

Perfect golf experiences don't come around often but I'm 2 for 2 at Pilgrim's Run. The trees were changing color, leaves were taken care of, beer was cold, greens were in perfect shape for late fall in Michigan. The layout remains a great mix of holes where you can lay into a driver and even if you are spraying it still find it.
We played the white/blue mix tees and it was the perfect amount of drivers, vs. long irons due to unsure doglegs or trouble.
This course has won so many awards from top course to most friendly and even in a late fall Thursday afternoon you can see why.
Pro tip, take selfies on tee boxes number 2 and 16 and then make sure you leave 1 more beer for when you are done with 18 you have to sit in the adirondack chairs and watch the 18th hole. We didn't have many golfers to watch so the sun setting behind the fall foliage had to be enough for us.
Not sure how many times I said perfect in this review, but perfect, perfect, perfect.

Great starter track and game tester for better players too

Angelo was amazing. He treated me like I was the only person there. He walked me out to the tee box and moved me from front to back to keep pace of play moving. Great call and he walked me through a lot of things I needed to know as a first timer.
Each green is 30 yards deep and perfectly round. All of them, huge circles and relatively flat. I drained like 4 putts I had no business making as they were inside the hole and flat as could be which made things super fun.
For a guy who rarely breaks 90 it felt great to shoot 40 and birdie the 18th.
Some doglegs where you could keep driver in the bag but a few holes you can get after it and still find the ball if you din't hit it straight. Love those type of holes.
Place has a mini golf and batting cages as well so would be a fun date or family spot as well. It's not a huge challenge where it'll beat you up, this is the type of place you are mad as a 12-16 handicapper to not make par. Try it out and walk, it's an easy one to hoof around, not many hills at all.

Nice course but not my type

You can't really walk 9 holes here very easily as the 9th hole ends furthest spot away form the clubhouse. Very true out and back type set up. Lots of twists and turns and little streams cutting thru the course. I was spraying the ball off the tee a bit and that didn't help my experience as it was a bit tight.
Fairways aren't too tight but not much rough and room to miss. I blew thru some doglegs just not knowing the distance or where to hit it first time playing.
Tons of bugs, not like bees or horseflies but little fruit flies that I was wiping off my face and shirt like 8 to 12 at a time so kind of annoying. Planes flying right over the course was kind of cool and unique and the clubhouse looks like a cool spot. I'd go try it, for sure not like a stay away it's in a great area close to everyone but I just need to hit 5 iron off the tee all round to keep things in play. Or get better but, that hasn't been working.

Unlike Another Other Canada Course I've Played

What a nice change of pace here from the norm. I played well so this might affect this review but I felt like if I wasn't driving the ball well it could be a tough day out here. not a very long course so you could try to knock it around with a long iron or hybrid if those work for you too.
Potato chip like greens and fairways and approach areas made for a very tough 100 yards and in type course. I didn't feel like it was too much or blind as most tee boxes or fairways were elevated so you can see what to do. Some questionable signage on the course but I made my way thru the place and the walk wasn't bad. Not too many hills or long walks between holes.
Condition was good, they didn't have a 9 hole rate different than 18 hole rate but whatever still was able to get in 9 for $20ish so it was priced accurately for time of day.
I'd come back here for sure for a change of pace of what I normally see in Canada, very tall fescue and hilly almost links style set up.

Behind 8 tee box there was adog barking constantly who I heard from 7th tee all the way to 9 fairway. I couldn't see him but bring treats for that thing to keep it quiet if that kind of stuff bothers you.

Tough greens and 100 yard and in areas

Tough meaning difficult, meaning I 3 putted a lot, meaning I would lay up or punch out to 100 yards and take 3 to 5 more shots and look back after putting out and being like dam, that wasn't easy. Course is awesome, we saw about 20 or so deer so if you are into that you'll be happy. Long drives between holes and course is laid out so you are kind of by yourself out there which has it's pros and cons. Plenty of room to lose a golf ball if you aren't hitting it semi-straight. Conditions were great and it's not like the greens and surround areas weren't bad they just were confusing to a first time player. This is the type of place you need local knowledge on where to leave shots and you'll gain back 5 or so shots the 2nd time you play it. No 9 hole option as 9 finishes away from clubhouse so we played 12 and then drove back in once dusk came so get here earlier in the day or you likely won't find a tee time.

Good Sunday Morning Round

Solid option in this area. 9 holes on a Sunday AM was expecting it to be pretty full and it was. Good for them, kid in the shop said we got a great deal on GolfNow so that made us feel good. It was nice to see a 9 hole option for 2 players on a Sunday AM.
Pretty nice layout, blind first tee shot and played the whites as 3 other players in the group needed to play there. I only hit driver 2 or 3 times and if played blue might have been a little more normal 5 to 7 times. Big greens and everything was in pretty good condition, not pristine but good, fairway weren't shaggy but it was early in the AM so wasn't tight. Layout was pretty standard for the area, a few open holes that run along side each other which is good for spraying the ball around and 2 to 3 shots that look like bowling alleys where you have to keep it tight and forced layup.

Always Perfect on 4th of July Morning

Great tradition of early morning golf at The Pines on the day of the 4th. Staff was great and very ready early in the AM for our tee time. We played as a foursome w/ scores ranging from 41 to 55 in 2 hours on the button.
Love the fact you can spray the ball and not lose it and still have a shot at the green to save your round. Greens were in good shape, not too many ball marks early in the AM as I usually try to fix 3 per green and most times couldn't find that many to fix.
Mike, Zach and staff are so very friendly and helpful and seem like they genuinely want yo to be there. That is a good feeling to get from a business. We'll keep coming back and great deal booked on GolfNow.
