Raven at Sandestin Golf and Beach Resort
Played On 05/22/2023Marshall w/attitude
Greens had been punched within the last week or so, wish I had known when booking. We had a marshall try to push us at the turn, where the snack and beverage stand is-didn't appreciate it given we were under two hours at that point. Other than that, no complaints and would definitely play it again.
The Golf Club at Dove Mountain - Saguaro/Tortolita
Played On 08/28/2020Will definitely play it again.
I've been to the Tucson area many times but this is the first time I got to play this course. First, it is a long way up the mountains-it takes a while to get there and the signage isn't clear so if you go, there are several golf courses up there and this one is the farthest out. The course layout is great, really fun to play and you will use every club in your bag. Even though it's a 100 degrees, the course is in good shape but the greens are soft. The staff was friendly and helpful, provided water and the beverage cart was rolling. The views were beautiful and there is a bit of shade to pause a bit between holes to enjoy it. I'm regretting not passing on another Tuscon area resort course a few times to play this one before.
The Club at Starr Pass - Rattler/Coyote
Played On 08/23/2020No relief!
Teed off a little after 1 PM on Sunday. Never saw a beverage cart! Due to COVID, there is no drinking water on the course, understandable, but at check in< I was informed there was a beverage cart. I guess it was on blocks somewhere because we never saw it. As for the course, it's playable but the greens were really soft and had many pitch marks that weren't completely repaired. If you play and aren't familiar with it, you will need a yardage book. There are a lot of blind tee shots, especially from the longer tees. It's worth playing again but plan accordingly.
Starfire Golf Club - The King Course
Played On 07/18/2020Saturday Public Golf
Saturday rounds on moderately priced pubic courses are expected to be trying at times. The pace was slower than I like but not bad enough to make me head for the parking lot at the turn (I've done it before!). The staff was friendly and the course was playable. Half the range was closed and there were many waiting to warm up. By the way, you shouldn't be hitting an extra large bucket to warm up while others are waiting! They removed all the coolers from the carts, should put them back.
TPC Scottsdale - The Stadium Course
Played On 07/17/2020I would have been booed!
The course is everything it should be. It was in great shape, staff was great, and it was challenging yet playable. The famed 16th has much more slope than it appears on TV. My tee shot hit the green but rolled off the right side. I was able to chip it close and save par but I would have been booed off the tee box! If you have a chance, play this course. Even in the middle of summer it was lush green.
Talking Stick Golf Club - Piipaash Course
Played On 07/16/2020A fun round in the desert sun
I played in the late afternoon, temperature was well over 100. Fresh drinking water was available on every other hole and it was a good thing, as the beverage cart was already done for the day. The course was in good shape tee to green although the greens are still showing some after affects of recent punching. Would have been nice to know the practice range is closed on Thursday afternoons for maintenance. Staff was friendly, as were the other patrons I encountered.. If in the area, go play it.
Painted Mountain Golf Club
Played On 08/08/2019Nice greens
Played early in the morning as I had to catch a flight. Staff was friendly and accommodating to my time constraints. A couple holes were directly back into the sun so hit and hope is the only strategy for those. Greens were in nice shape, firm but not too fast. Going out early allowed me to set the pace (2 hours 40 min), would definitely play it again if in town.
Painted Mountain Golf Club
Played On 08/08/2019Really nice greens
Was able to get in an early morning round-finished in 2 hours. Greens are in really good shape and fairways are very playable. Friendly staff, good value. Carts are in rough shape but it beats walking.
Cherokee Ridge Country Club
Played On 06/02/2017Worth the ride
Course is in really good condition from tee to green. A couple of bunkers could use some work but overall no complaints. They are stingy on the range balls-the bag had about 20 balls.
