Cerro Golf Club
Played On 01/24/2017Worst golf experience
With respect for the administrators and members, this course was a horrible playing experience.
We paid roughly US$40 each for green fees and another US$30 each for clubs and trolley. The course was fairly empty of players and it didn't take long to discover why. The fairways were generous however badly unkept with long grass that allowed no run. If you miss the fairway, good luck finding your ball because even the first cut was ankle deep and so much of our day was spent trying to locate our ball even when fairways were hit.
Most of the greens were plagued with ant hills and not all had flags making it difficult to plan an approach from the fairway. What flags there were were about 1m tall pieces of bamboo shoved in the hole. The bunkers were atrocious in appearance but played the best of the course with excellent sand.
No on course bathrooms or water was available on the day we visited though the club staff were friendly and very helpful.
We chose Cerro as an alternative to Montevideo because of price, but at US$70 per person we were left bitterly dissapponted and should have stumped up the extra US$50 each to play at Montevideo.
