Humberstone Heights Golf Club
Played On 06/18/2018Could be better
Enjoyed the round overall. First thing was the driving range doesn’t open until 9am weekdays so no chance to warm up. Club house was in the process off opening at 7.30am. The layout was interesting I thought. Plenty of doglegs and some blind tee shots. I played from the whites and felt that if you were accurate with your driver you could score well here. Have to say the bunkers are poor. Not edged and the sand is builders quality. Quite a few had no rake or broken ones. Greens where I little slow but mostly ran true. Overall decent but £20 is steep for a round there

Enjoyed the course but £30 is definitely too much. The green condition was very good and they ran true. The fairways were decent although fairly brown and a little bare in patches. My issue would be the bunkers. Very poor quality of sand and inconsistent I felt. Also for the price I would expect they would be a little more cared for. (I.e. The edges tidy etc). There are some really interesting holes that require thought. You definitely can't just thump the driver on every hole. There is a premium on accuracy on a lot of tee shots. I really liked the wooden buildings/cabins on site. I think it would be a nice place to stay and play. I would play again but not at that price.

Played On 05/19/2017Nice but short
This is a decent course but like the other reviews I found it very short. I should of played of the back tees to make it more testing. I was able to drive a couple of the par 4's and I would count myself a short hitter compared to most. The first 3 holes are downhill par 3's which was quirky. There are a few 90 deg doglegs to keep the interest there. The course itself was in good condition and the greens were decent as well. The pro shop was a bare with not much in it to be honest although they seem to be carrying out some work. Overall a nice course but a half decent player would easily take it apart I think. Another note was the bunkers had a serious amount of sand in them.
The Essex Golf & Country Club - Championship Course
Played On 05/02/2017Really nice
Played in fantastic weather. First thing that struck me was the course in general looked fantastic. All the tee boxes were excellent. The fairways where really good with great bounce and run for this time of year. The greens rolled true and once you get the pace you can trust your putts. I found it long but I enjoyed the test. Longer hitters would thrive here. The only thing I can fault if anything was that no one hole stood out for me in terms of being a signature hole but that shouldn't stop you playing here. Great course and setup in general.

First time playing after loads of recommendations. First hole gives a good birdie chance to start the round and break you in. The fairways were in great condition as was the surrounding areas. Plenty of trees but fairly wide receptive fairways for the most part. There are also a lot of strategically placed bunkers that need clearing of the tee on a lot of holes. My only critique was the greens, hence the 3 stars for course conditions and value. They are literally carpets of mose. This leads to inconsistent pace and roll which left putting a lottery on quite a few holes. Apparently it is very wet here in the winter so that is probably why. I'm sure the green keepers are on it so I will return as the rest of the course was clearly cared for. All in all positive and looking forward to returning when the greens have been sorted.

Second time playing here so feel ok to add a review. Generally the course was in decent condition. Fairly wide fairways and welcoming greens. Most greens are protected by one or more bunkers. I have to say after playing the first 12 holes, from 13 to 18 definitely drop in standard. They feel like they are added on (if that makes sense!). Greens were ok although not quick by any stretch. Very friendly on the course and clubhouse and cafe looks nice. Paid £10 using a discount but wouldn't want to pay much more if I'm honest. 12th was my favourite hole with water in play on every shot after the tee off.

Played On 01/19/2017Great course
Arrived for 8am tee and the clubhouse was shut. Thought to myself not a great start. After that it got better and better. Firstly greens were the best I've played this winter in fantastic condition. Course itself wasn't overly wet either, firm underfoot nearly all over. Par 3's not simple for high handicapper like myself. I found it challenging but not so that it overpowered you. Some steep ascents and descents in places I felt. No winter tees or greens in mid January is great going in my opinion. Will return!

Played On 12/04/2016Cancelled
So I booked the night before and was called 35 mins before my tee of time and told that due to a club competition my tee time was cancelled. Poor admin by the club the tee time should never of been available to book. Would stop attempting again for me even though I live in Harborough.

It was very frosty so had to make do with winter greens which did detract obviously. I did see enough however to ensure i definitely will return . Fairly tight fairways mean errant tee shots leave difficult seconds through or over large trees. I wont mention greens too much but they do look like they would be fantastic on a normal day. They seem mostly large to encourage you to attack them, however bunkers guard most on nearly all sides. Even though the greens where like concrete i enjoyed the round and cant wait to play again when the greens are actually green. Another note was that the Pro was extremely friendly and was more than happy to give me his time, that is one thing i find attracts me back to a course.

Played On 11/10/2016Dry Dry Dry!
Firstly if you need a course for wet conditions this is your course. Built on rock the water just disappears. The greens where very good when I played both times. There is a hut with vending machines for crisps, snacks, Tea, soup etc on the 10th tee which I thought was a nice touch. Enough difficulty to keep you interested throughout finishing with a short Par 3 over a lake. Very friendly staff in the shop. Unfortunately didn't have time for the 19th but it seems nice from the outside!
