Exceptional course for the money. They don’t have big steep slopes or wasted money on florist covered tee boxes but what they offer is a long challenging course that is forgiving yet dangerous at the same time. Considering the amount of play I’d call it in excellent condition. Those who play it need to do a better job of being courteous and fix their ballmarks so fix all ya can. And more rakes in the traps would be nicer too. Can’t wait to play it again and I’d choose this over Timber Ridge in a heartbeat!!

Course great, amenities are non existent really unless you’re a member (don’t worry the members will make CERTAIN you know you are on THEIR COURSE!) I (and the other 3 in my group) will all be writing personal letters to the course pro and the board recommending with EXTREME detail the level at how absolutely nasty, cruel, rude and belligerently expletives vocal about our 10 minute late start (MIND YOU HARDLY ANYONE WAS ONE ANY OF THE 3 COURSES) due to an individual with a continence issue and please keep in mind we finished 10 minutes early of the required 1.5 hour play time. I will be direct, if there was not 2 ladies and a 7 year old ride along child this may have gotten VERY ugly. I told the pro shop at the turn to keep this stalking starter away from my group of customers (new folks to the course from Ft Myers) to show them a nice course. To sum it up I wil NEVER EVER EVER play this course again. The starters and absolutely deer in the headlight young men in the pro shop had not even an apology. WITH MY EVERY BEGGING WORD UNLESS YOU WANT TO BE TREATED AND SPOKEN TO LIKE TRASH I suggest you take your hard earned money ANYWHERE BUT HERON CREEK. WHAT AN ABSOLUTELY PATHETIC AND EMBARRASSING OUTING TO TAKE MY BEST CUSTOMERS.

This is my GO TO track! Quite honestly like all courses there’s areas that are a bit rough but overall this place and it’s staff and most importantly the courses (3 separate 9’s) are all drastically different and no 2 holes the same. You can score great or have your butt handed to ya quickly on a hole so play wise but feel free to go for it if you’re an advanced stick. The tee boxes are all in good shape. The greens, every one of them are lush and depending on the weather and cut they can be sluggish to quite slippery and speedy and they will break in spots so heads up! The food is AWESOME and affordable with a fantastic chef so try anything as you won’t be disappointed. The cart girls have everything you need and you’ll see them frequently which is fantastic and they are so nice. Now let’s cover the staff…… they are the absolute finest folks in town. They care, they help and are on the ball when it comes to getting a cart right to your car so tip these great guys and gals as they’re top notch! And granted it may not be of the elite clubs in Florida I’d never trade these people or the great golf for the arrogant and downright rudely overpriced other courses in SWFL. Nobody deserves how others treat us local’s to spit on us for the snowbird money. At Cape Royal they are always grateful to have you play and dine outside or in the awesome bar. So get on here and book a round or 10!! Best in the Cape!

This is only my second time playing this course and I commend the Superintendent and groundskeepers. What a fantastic shape course considering the amount of play and unsheltered environment. Greens are smooth, fast, plush and they will break like crazy. Always a nice lie under your ball. The tees see a lot of players so don’t start whining for immaculate grass as it just doesn’t exist with the amount of play in Florida but they got it well under control with lots of care given. It’s long enough for us big bombers and don’t let the open fair play fool you because the sand is strategic and your putting better be good! Congratulations San Carlos, you can EASILY compete with the overpriced tourist traps and still send us home scratching out heads. See y’all soon #FORE

Been here 6 times at least. The best people whom work here are the 2 guys at the bag stand after that it’s a hard fall from grace especially when your foursome is chased done by the ranger. We were 15 minutes behind and stuck behind a twosome that was ball hawking and with a power threesome on 3 carts hitting into us apparently we were the problem. I’m a 10 cap, brother a 12, father a 14 & our 4th was a 5 so you can just imagine what group took the scolding. This ticked me off enough with his arrogance that I’m not sure I’ll go back. There are FAR to many courses to get harassed at then accused of flipping the bird when I held up my right index finger to say hey give us a minute to the group behind us. Get some glasses and Magnolia be sure to tell Mark how y’all chased off a great tipping customer. By the way thanks for ruining the round for my dad on his first course experience in Florida, real classy.....not.

This is my second time playing here and I love it! It’s very fair, long and shot placement is important. You’ll use every club in your bag and the par 3’s can be tough. The wind comes into play as well as the water. The greens are a bit on the shaggy side but they’re true and in excellent condition so they can support the play they see. The sand is really good as well...had to find that out darn it! When you’re greeted at the course Dino takes care of ya and loads you up quick at the bag drop and follows you to your car so you can get on the course and have fun. The pro shop has some awesome deals and is loaded with great clothing and VERY fair prices as well. The staff in the restaurant bar were courteous and in great friendly spirits. I can’t wait to go back, without a doubt a favorite of mine!

Local’s - Please note the snowbirds are back. Along with their lack of etiquette that is hurting course conditions even more! Divots not filled, unrepaired ballmarks on greens is HORRIBLE, Cigarette butts galore, cigar butts galore, spot sunflower seeds on tees and greens, garbage thrown about and horrifically slow play. Be prepared to play a 5+ hour round. Price is too much money.

Pope golf should be ashamed of themselves at the poor conditions they’ve let these greens get to. They could be great but nahh they’d rather pocket the money.

While us locals played and stuck with this course over the summer and rainy season we are now subjected to taking a backseat to the rude season folks. I feel bad for the staff having to deal with it.

While we stuck it out through the worst conditions of the year it’s sad that we’re passed over for the almighty dollar and now have to accept the decline of quality due to patrons with zero respect for the course. Extremely disappointed on many many levels.

My review I realized today playing need to be made and to be honest. I’ve played this course religiously for over 3 years since it went from private with The Meadows to public so they didn’t have to maintain 2 courses to the same level and since then and Pope Golf’s ownership this place has tumbled HARD. A beautiful layout that now has bare tee boxes, skinned up greens that are peppered with unrepaired ball marks from the old folks, ailing cart paths, mostly lame sand and thin coverage in bunkers to just a plethora of weeds and cut corners. It’s flare it once had hit me today is no longer there. The GPS on the carts are WAY off too. There is a mud hole at the edge of path on 3 tee from some bad underground that’s been that way for years, you’ll notice it by the mess. There’s garbage in the woods and plenty of trimming to be done. Greens are slow, bumpy and beat from uncaring players. My honest opinion is now I won’t pay more than $25 per person to play this place. There’s no beverage cart and the snack shop at turn closes at 3 if they’re even open at all and bring some cash because the prices are ludicrous for the lame hot dogs or sandwiches which you can get better at a gas station. I’m sad have to write this because it’s where my wife and I fell in love and loved to play. We no longer want to play here unless it’s all there is or it’s too cheap to pass which is usually the case. What a great place that’s fallen to the way of Pope golf and their pathetic maintenance. Play elsewhere.

The course: Long, Short, doglegs, water, wide open and challenging. They really have a bit of it all. Old school Florida golf course in mature neighborhood. The greens are very nice compared to many others, fairways are good and rough can be rough and tough at times but it’s nice grass. Tee boxes range from great to pretty bare depending on where they are. I love this course and I LOVE the layout.

The Bad: It's older, they struggle like others with budget because they’re not all flashy. The cart paths range from great to outright horrible in spots but I don’t judge a course or my experience by some rough paths. They are no doubt lacking manpower over the summer to clean up and maintain some tree debris and large downed branches but they’re not in play anyway so it doesn’t really matter. The traps range from pretty darn good to hard pan but again we don’t plan on being in them so get over it.

The wildlife is AWESOME!! Deer, hawks, cranes, Egrets, squirrel, owls, gators beautiful ducks, fish, Fox my gosh you name it and I’ve got pics. It’s awesome to enjoy this part.

The HIGHLIGHT of the course that makes us come back are the STAFF!!! David & Kenny and all the team here make this vintage course so very near and dear to our heart.

Get out here, don’t be so critical and look past the hard stuff and see the beautiful course that Nancy Lopez dominated in her LPGA career. This is a MUST PLAY!!!

We play courses all around here and Rosedale is simply one of our favorites. It’s fair and challenging to say the least. The layout is beautiful yet tight as well forcing you to make a quality second shot. Placement and approach at this course is key! Greens are great for this time of year even after a fresh aeration a couple weeks ago but that doesn’t scare me. There’s a couple (maybe 2) tee boxes that are sparse due to being in direct high sun all day but they thicken up during snow bird season when unfortunately this place gets expensive again but still fair. One thing I will say is that this place has the most ludicrously high prices for beer, mixed drinks and $6.75 for a hot dog so do yourself a favor and stick to the water and Gatorade because their prices are higher than ANYONE around. Nice carts, restrooms are nice on the course and the greens and people are awesome. We want to live there and be members. NOTE: slowest guard shack in history so give yourself 15 minutes and there’s no carts in the parking lot which is kinda stupid but some old folks can’t even handle a buggy so our loss for convenience. Play this course!!!

Love this course. Beautiful shape, long and forgiving (well not true if you’re a bomber be careful if you’re 300+ as I hit through a lot of fairways with great drives) as long as you’re not in the strategically placed traps. We played this course only on a hot deal option because it’s honestly too rich for my blood. When in season it’s prices drive us Local’s off the course unless you’re rich, $6.75 for a hot dog... greens are lush but quite slow and don’t expect to see them break. Hit it at it firm. I’ll always go back when it’s a special but can’t afford this place otherwise. Also if you’re not a member you can expect to walk 300 yards to where you have to park, regardless if there’s only 16 cars in the other lot. Get there early and enjoy the free range. Make sure you get water or Gatorade as there was no refreshment cart or water to drink that we saw. Not cool for August in Florida. Play it while it’s hot & cheap unless you got big bucks. Other options are Lakewood National that’s completely different locally. The funniest part is be prepared to drive through neighborhoods that every single house is the exact same model. You can get lost easily and note the pro shop is on Malachite dr NOT Esplanade as GolfNow routes you to the wrong address.

A beautiful day, despite traffic I was off the tee only 4 minutes beyond my scheduled time. Great job despite the confusion in the pro shop between Walt who’s got it together and the other guy tossing in a monkey wrench. So I get paired with a couple of literally non English speaking gentlemen from the other side of the world that were both about a 30 handicap and I’m about an 8 so it was tough and the longest round of golf in my life. The ranger badger us to speed up so many times I finally told him to get away from us because I play the tips and was hitting into the horrible golfers in front of me so yes I can hit a ball but I don’t need to be policed because I have to let them clear before I hit because I have to wait on my next shot while these guys hit 3-4 balls in the meantime. Greens are as slow as Velcro, is dry as a bean, the ranger is a pain they have lame super slow carts and long story short......go anywhere but here. Overpriced, postage stamp greens and no beverage cart or concern of your round. 3rd time here and definitely THE LAST. So many other choices like Waterlefe, Rosedale, Highlands, Manatee, The Preseve...anywhere but this slow goat track.

What a nice surprise it was to find this place. First of all let it be know the only reason for not giving a full 5 stars is because they're suffering from no rain as is everyone else. Coming from Michigan this course is very similar to a northern course and it's quite challenging to say the least. It's long and difficult. The greens rolled very nice and were in great shape although in need of water. Staff was very friendly, pricing was a great deal as well. The only downfall was not passing the clubhouse at the turn and not being able to get a hot dog so if you're out on the track you're out there! Enjoy as I'll certainly go back in fact I'm gonna look for a house for sale on that course.

Has potential to be very nice but that would require a lot of water to make it more lush. $140 for 2 players is way too much as is $5+ for a hot dog. It's not the ritz, no GPS and yardage markers are extremely difficult to find if ever.

The course was beautiful and the pace of play and conditions were great. The only downfall was the cost of everything associated with being there. The pro shop is nothing special, the gentleman behind the counter had zero personality and the cost for 1 beer at $4 was insane. If you book it using golfnow.com that's great you'll save money if you call the course direct you'll get list price with no equaling the price. That's pretty bad especially for those that aren't app savvy folks. Kinda crooked I thought. Great course and I'll go back but only by booking online and won't buy one thing while I'm there b
