Carlton Oaks Lodge & Country Club
Played On 05/01/2020Course Needs Mowing - Pace Horrible
I did not even get to finish the course. Only finished 14 due to pace of play. Over 4.5 hours to get through 14 holes. An accumulations of issues and not entirely the courses fault, but they could do something. Everyone being forced to walk puts players that were already slow way way behind the pace. The course was in desperate need of mowing. Given walking is slowing everyone down, too much time is spent looking for balls even just off the fairway. The golf cops really need to get on these people about pace of play.

Pace of play was horrible! What course allows a group of 6 players? The golf cops must have been afraid because they completely ignored their antics and wildly long time on tee boxes and greens.

The course layout is great except coming into the setting sun on 18. I still rate the layout as excellent. Fairways are great, greens are fair to good. Pace is usually pretty good. Practice range has been on rugs for a long time now. So tired of that. It’s damaging to wrists and elbows and not an effective practice. Bunkers have always blown here. A couple with soft dirt, most are hard pack dirt. Lastly, how hard would it be to put a little water in the ball cleaners? Not having a towel, I can work with that. But no water in the cleaners for as long as I can remember. GolfNow gets you a decent price. The straight pricing is high for a course that doesn’t take care of the golfer. If it wasn’t so close, I doubt I’d play here much.

Staff was friendly as could be. However I would have to guess the course hasn’t been mowed in weeks. No exaggeration that we struggled finding balls in the fairways. It was irresponsible to charge me to charge me to play in these conditions.

Everything is old and dirty. Wouldn’t kill them to hit the carts with a hose once in a while. There’s a number of things my wife and I consider desirable at a course, few of which are present here. Most notably are the bombing zone greens. While fixing ball marks are a players responsibility, you wouldn’t expect the staff to completely let it go without any daily touch up. They’re so prevalent, you know you’re not dealing with today’s hits on the green. I can’t imagine how long you’d have to ignore it to get that bad. If it weren’t for the really bad greens, the course wouldn’t be that bad. Fairways were in great shape. Widest fairways I think I’ve ever played. A bit weird on some holes, but all holes are pretty easy to score. My wife doesn’t want to play there again. But I could see me taking someone who struggles with the driver.

Exceptionally well groomed course. Although groundskeepers should be a little more courteous with the mower. They actually ran between me and my wife and we couldn’t have been 20 yards apart. The real downer is the whole course runs either side of two enormous drain culverts, always on the right. Not a challenging course if you’re not a slicer, just “always” play well left. Might have been the nicest greens I’ve ever played.
Black Mountain Golf & Country Club - Founders/Desert Course

The course ain’t too bad. If could use a little more TLC. The real problem is finding your way around. I suspect the course names have changed since nothing matched my gps watch. There appears to have been three nine hole courses at one time. I know that trying to find my back nine. A sign indicates a course but when you get there it’s just winding cart paths. Wasted a lot of time wandering. Even after getting directions to the back, I missed an obscure sign and spent more time wandering. By the time I found my way, A threesome jumped in front of me. I should have expected this since a couple asked me for directions to the back nine when I arrived at the clubhouse. I had no clue then having never played there before. They should consider closing the route to the closed course, at least remove the signs leading you there and make the u-turn after the tunnel conspicuous.

Beautiful course in perfect condition. The layout coming back to center with snack shop and bathrooms every 5 holes was fantastic. Every course should be so accommodating. This course immediately became my wife's favorite.
very nice course
Wife and I always enjoy playing this course. Always in great shape and it's a guilty pleasure for me because I post my lowest scores here.
