Painted Mountain Golf Club
Played On 12/28/20184.5 stars!
This course surprised me with a layout that made up for being slightly short. Had a fun round playing with 2 local guys who helped with details like a hidden lateral hazard, expected run out distant on tee shots and fairway bias from side-to-side. Greens were challenging, but speed consistent. A found fairway from the tee always had a decent lie. The water hazards are generally located so that there is a decent safe area for 'miss'. Bunkers scarce and avoidable. Forced carries few and manageable. I missed not having a range ( -1 star )to warm up on but focused on short game at a practice green that made my top ten ever - very well conditioned! This is definitely on my repeat and recommend short list.
Kayak Point Golf Course
Played On 08/07/2018Conditions need attention
First round here in 2 years. I always love playing this course & have enjoyed it occasionally for over 30 years. Was ranked in a top 100 list in the past, but is really slipping in fairway, bunker & tee box conditioning. Greens are still awesome, although slowest I can remember. What I noticed this time was how little grass and how many mid-fairway weedy lies I hit from, the shallow sand in the 2 bunkers I found, and the several re-routes of the cart path. Still an amazing, quiet track through forest & marshes. I hope management understands they've got something special here & gets it back on track.
Gleneagle Golf Course
Played On 06/25/2018A Great Layout Appreciated
First time I've playd Gleneagle in several years as it's almost an hour drive for me. I did recall that it challenges the player to select distance and line from the tee-to-green on all but the par 3s. Was a single w/ cart and completed 18 in just over 3hrs. Some forced carries, doglegs are mostly right, elevation changes & well contoured greens kept my attention. A hard morning rain softened greens & kept them slower than what I suspect they usually are. Pretty normal for Northwest golfers :-) All tees & greens were in great condition, just unmowed that day. Staff were friendly and relaxed. I'll play here again soon, I think, with friends next time!
The Fairways
Played On 06/20/2018Mild wind plus walkable equals great experience
Mild elevation gain/loss and 7mph wind keeps this challenging but not too much. Doglegs both left & right present opportunities to work your ball flight. Tees, approaches and greens were well-maintained. Greens appeared to have been rolled recently and hole locations mostly were set up tucked & tight to edges, but not inaccessable. Green speed slightly above average for a publicly played course. Staff courteous, friendly & available. Definitely want to play here on a return trip to Spokane area as this course trumps most of the municipal courses in many ways. Some traps could use attention - noted in conditions rating.
Starfire Golf Club - The King Course
Played On 04/06/2018First Choice
Customer service always matters to me & this team from start to finish were focused on making it a 5-star experience. Both nines were very well maintained with tee boxes & fairways above average for a publicly played course. Well -designed (thank you, Arnie & Ed) with avoidable bunkers and spacious greens. Green speed moderate and even from hole-to-hole. Already planning a second trip to Scottsdale with these three nines in mind. I adjusted to the limited distance range balls (price was right!), but of course would have preferred full size range.
Canyon Mesa Country Club
Played On 04/05/2018Best Ever Short Course
My second round in 2 trips to Sedona/Oak Creek and both were 5-star. Great design that uses elevation changes to engage all your golfing tools. Greens are are challenging & whole course kept in amazing condition. Greens aren't too small and contours allow for completely different but accessive hole locations. It's hard not to really like this course & if it were near my home I'd want to play it alot to see the different set ups. Pace of play was perfect both times @ 11/12:00. I expect to be back here.
Arizona Biltmore Golf Club - Estates Course
Played On 04/03/2018Course was great - Staff amazing!
Went here to get 1-1/2 hours on range and left wanting to come back to play because literally every staff person I met had such positive attitudes about their work & were customer-service oriented. Booked on GolfNow for the next day & played (single) a stress free round completed in 3-1/4 hours. Enjoyed a late lunch @ restaurant. Adobe course is mature, mostly flat & has medium/large greens that were well contoured and not overly fast. Slight doglegs & wide landing areas for tee shots allowed me opportunity to salvage even my misses. This was a great place for me to play & enjoy my first round in over 3 months!
Waikoloa Village Golf Club
Played On 08/07/2017Best track/cost in area
Liked that this was an easy access, no frills, straight up see it & swing golf course. Loved that it was an RTJones Jr. design and not extreme or tricked up on any of the 18 holes. Course condition reflected that watering was reduced, but not to the point that the greens would not hold a well-struck approach shot. Compared to some other courses on the island it was not 'too dryed out'. Staff gets a solid grade A-. Really my only knock would be about the bunkers, which were not sand -filled but some mixture which had a content of very small pebbles. Bunkers get a C+ :-( I want to play here again & hope that I can bring a buddy or two over from the mainland when I do!
Laguna Seca Golf Club
Played On 08/24/2015Layout isn't boring
Well designed course makes use of it's location next to a hillside to present elevation gains/losses, a few side hill clinging fairways and a few doglegs in both directions. Mix in some 5mph wind; choose your clubs accurately and get rewarded. Green speed was manageable, but reading the breaks was challenging. I loved this course because it made me think about shot selection & then deliver to in order to reach greens.
Pacific Grove Golf Links
Played On 08/22/2015Back nine with views of Pacific ocean
Challenging back nine required attention to details of wind direction & safe landing areas free of sand. Substantial elevation gains & losses make club&shot selection important. I loved it & highly recommend to any level of player. Green speed was quite consistent throughout.
Swinomish Golf Links
Played On 08/02/2014Location, location
Early a.m. start allowed us to go as fast as we chose. Less than 5mph wind took some difficulty out of both nines. Greens receptive, but slower than some other local courses. Great course to play to your handicap. Only surprise was a recent reversal of front & back nines which challenged my GPS device until I figured out how to reconfigure.
Lake Padden Golf Course
Played On 10/20/2013Great layout w/ ++greens
I love great greens and even with a recent aeration (3-4 weeks ago) Lake Padden has just that...and they were summer slick! Lots of elevation changes in the fairways adds a level of difficulty in club choice. No wind on our round, but with second growth forest through out the course, I doubt that it would've had a significant impact.
Kayak Point Golf Course
Played On 9/14/2013Layout makes you manage from tee to score well
Green speed manageable and many pins were tucked. Fairways in really nice shape. Pace was good for a layout that seems spread over a large area. Lots of elevation changes places a premium on good tee shot management.
Sudden Valley Golf & Country Club
Played On 9/8/2013Pace of play was better than I expected.
Green speed even throughout. Saw some improvements on course condition from last time I played there. #11 & #12 fairways were a bit squishy, but most everything else on back 9 was dry enough for cart. Sudden Valley is always an interesting track with great variety from front 9 to back 9.
