Course is in very bad condition. They lost all their greens and a lot of the fairways, no good grass anywhere. I was told course is up for sale and current owner will not spend any money on maintenance. I only paid $ 21.00 and I thought that was to much. Course was never great since I started playing there 4 years ago but I thought it was a fun place to play and fair condition. I will not return nor will the 3 others I met and played with today.

Course lay out is great, challenging but fair with many different looks. Fairways a little scabby from fungus. Greens large ,fair and roll true. Tee boxes were mostly good. Traps mostly good. Now for the problem, all the rough was way to long, every where around the greens not in the fairway you can not get a clean chip to the green. The rough is way to penal, better to hit from trap onto green then rough. All the rough is a hazard slowing play looking for and loosing balls. Made the day rather unpleasant. I will not rush back to play here again.

This was the second time I played this course, first time was early this summer and the course was great. This time the place was in terrible shape, greens had just been punched and whoever did it should be fired. I have never seen a punch job done so poorly anywhere. There are wheel ruts and gouges throughout the greens along with the expected tine holes with sand. All the tee boxes are closed, every sand trap is washed out with a muddy bottom and the fairways are rather beat up, oh and the driving range is closed.
STAY HOME or PLAY SOMEWHERE ELSE till spring.

Good public course for the money. I have played here often, not the best but always playable, good value for the money. Can play slow at times but that is typical of most courses today, with fewer golfers every year no one is going to chase away customers. They keep up with maintenance and mowing and do try to make minor improvements. Greens are usually fast but can get a little beat up, it seams fewer and fewer golfers repair ball marks or rake traps then they ........ about conditions. Course has a bar and serves beer only, some sandwiches. Staff is friendly.

So sad to see the course in this poor condition, and it appears there is nothing being done to correct the condition. Royal Oaks was once the nicest public course in the greater Harrisburg area. I only paid 15.00 to play but if I would have paid the rack rate of +/- 35.00 I would have been furious. Looks like this place will not be around much longer.
