ThunderHawk Golf Club
Played On 08/03/2020Excellent, scenic, demanding course.
This is my new favorite course in the Chicagoland area. Felt as if I was in northern Wisconsin. This course is extremely demanding, I strongly advise first timers to use GPS or do a drive up from the tee before hitting. Lots of challenging tee shots, some forced carries, and fairway bunkers. Course is in excellent shape, greens are fair. I kept driver in the bag all but 3 holes and came out on top of my group in the end. With cart it was $79, which is steep, but this course is a gem and you could save a few bucks golfing off peak hours. Course doesn't have GPS carts, which is the only downside, because if there ever was a course you needed them it would be this one. Definite bucket list course in the area.
Highlands at Grand Geneva Resort & Spa
Played On 07/22/2020Great course, can be tough for first timers.
Great venue, polite staff, new carts with GPS, free range to warmup. Starter was knowledgeable and informative. Interesting course with beautiful scenery, beverage cart made several passes. Pretty forgiving off the tee, a few forced carries, but pretty big elevation changes from tee to green can make it demanding (but beautiful) and club selection difficult. Better to be short than long on approaches, my playing partner had several balls roll off the back, and the links style setup doesn't stop them within 20 yards of the green. Greens were pretty simple, true rolling but not overly fast. I would rate this 5 stars if you aren't paying premium rates, which seem to vary by $30-$40 depending on what time you tee off. Great experience overall.
Stonewall Orchard Golf Club
Played On 07/20/2020Great course, deceivingly challenging.
Nice course, pretty scenic, polite staff, refreshment cart made several loops on the course. This course is more challenging than it appears. Undulating greens, blind tee and approach shots, forced carries and some elevation changes make it pretty tough. Greens were fast and a little beat up but understandable with the recent lack of rain and hot temps. I’ll enjoy playing it again, lack of course knowledge easily cost 3-5 strokes that I look to improve on. Good value overall for a weekday round.
Fresh Meadow Golf Course
Played On 05/25/2020Embarassing
First off, anyone from the area knows this is a hack course and you're probably going to have a 5 hour+ round unless you're going early. The course is in embarassing shape, rough so high all balls are lost. Walking 18 on this course feels like a 20 mile ruck march in the jungle. Sand traps without sand. I even found dozens of dead fish on one of the fairways from flooding the week before. The clubhouse is a joke, has a huge tarp over the roof on the backside and looks condemned! I appreciate being able to get out super early, but this is merely an on course practice session, not real golf.
Thank you for the great review. We are glad you had a great experience and we look forward to having you again soon!
