The Hollows Golf Club - Lake/Cottage
Played On 03/14/2018Great fun, even in windy conditions!
The Hollows greens were receptive yet rolled at a great brisk pace. The green designs are also varied, providing a new challenge at each hole. The course conditions were excellent for winter, and the staff was friendly and welcoming.
The Club At Viniterra
Played On 12/20/2017Distance, bunkers, and a blast!
Viniterra is wide open. You can play as far back as you want. The course is designed for fun, but scoring chances will be hard to come by if you can’t stick it on the greens. All the greens are guarded by bunkers, with each bunker having a different grade of fluffiness (or hardness). Unless the practice range bunker is freshly raked, you may not want to base your sand shots on it. Still, it is a great course with a great staff!
The Hollows Golf Club - Lake/Cottage
Played On 10/18/2017Fun round
Greens were great, rolling faster than I expected. The fairways were good, too. I like the layout, which combines inviting fairways with enough approach challenges to keep you thinking. Thankfully, all three sets of 9 were available, because a seniors tournament was on Cottage/Lake. I was able to play Road/Cottage pretty quickly (under 2.5 hours) as a single.

The course was in good condition. The fairways were firm and the greens soft. You were guaranteed to make a large divot with any full shot landing on the green. At the Hot Deal cost of $17, it was an amazing value for 4.5 hours of golf.
The set up is not long and allows you to work the ball without much difficulty. I'd rather fly a ball over water than try to constantly fly it through a tree.
Lochmere Golf Club
Played On 08/03/2016Great Course
Lochmere is a nice course with some layout challenges on some holes. They maintain the greens excellently! Also, Ed and his staff always try to provide opportunities for fun outings. Overall, I prefer to play here than anywhere else in the Triangle.

I was aware of the temporary greens prior to purchasing this deal. I found out after starting that there was no place to practice sand shots or chipping. I soon learned that the bunkers had not been raked or dragged for at least 5 days (the pro shop worker confirmed what I suspected when my SW couldn't make it through the sand without chunking). Some of the temporary yardages were off because they were measured only by a range finder. Lastly the temporary greens were mostly acceptable but even some of them were in terrible shape.
On a good note, the fairways were in terrific shape.
Tiger Point Golf Club
Played On 6/10/2013Nice Course that requires some strategy
The water holes require strategy and precision. The course is well maintained. A few of the greens do have some fungus that has invaded the region but they were still well maintained.
lccrossgaze,
Thank you for the kind words! Rees Jones really constructed a gem out here in New Kent. Thanks for driving from Glen Allen!
