Desert Springs Palm Course

Great layout with a great mixture of challenging but fair holes. Fairways and bunkers were in great shape. The greens were spotty with some thin spots, and had been recently top dressed. The pace of play was w a y s l o w at 5 hours for 18 holes...unacceptable.

Maui Nui Review 1/20/15

Interesting layout with a good mixture of holes. While the course condiiton was excellent overall, the greens were very slow. But I am used t.o playing on bent grass greens cut very short. These bermuda greens were grainy & somehwhat shaggy. Compared to other courses on Maui, it is an excellent value and an enjoyable place to play. I will play again every chance I get

An outstanding, challenging, and fair golf course that is in the best condition of any course I've played in HHI and South Carolina!

When I checked in the assistant pro told me it was a Pete Dye designed course. I dislike Pete Dye designs because they usually are overly difficult and you can get penalized for good shots. But this course was not that way at all. It has very wide fairways and the right amount of sand and water. If you play well, you will be rewarded. You can also be off your game not get killed on it too. Yes, it has some of Pete’s classic feature like big greens with multi-levels. But the transitions were modest and not tricked up like most of his designs. To me it was the best course I’ve played in SC and in HHI. It has lots of character with a variety of challenging but fair holes. The course was in the best condition of any of the courses I’ve played in HHI and SC. The greens were absolutely outstanding. There are the best greens I’ve played on with the exception of Muirfield Village GC and Oakmont. The grass was Bermuda, but it was cut short and looked almost like bent grass. The grass itself was lush and thick, and I never noticed a single thin spot on them anywhere. I would go back and play there anytime and highly recommend it to anyone. The price for carts and greens fees was $90, but considering the course quality, it was a good value. I’ve spent a lot more to play on a lot worse courses.

The best feature of HHN is its greens are in excellent condition with lush grass and true rolls. Otherwise it is just ho-hum and unspectacular.

For a Gary Player Signature course, I anticipated that it would have lots of character, be a challenging but fair layout, and have some spectacular holes. It was none of those. Rather it was "ho-hum" in design, very flat with few elevation changes, unremarkable too shallow sand traps, and reminiscent of many municipal golf courses. The course was overall well maintained. The greens were in wonderful condition with lush grass and true rolls. On many of the fairways, the grass was quite thin, almost bare lies condition. The entire staff was friendly, courteous, and genuinely pleased that we were playing their course. The pace of play was excellent, right at 4 hours. We saw marshalls frequently which I'm sure helped keep all players on the pace of play. We appreciated this very much as we have had 5 hour rounds on other courses in the area.

I know that this review may be perceived a bit on the tough side. For those who want an easy, "player friendly" course that is in good condition, this is the place to play. My wife loved it for those reasons. I expected a more challenging course with some holes that had the "wow" factor. This course doesn't have this character which is why I was disappointed. The cart and greens fee we paid here was the highest of any other course we've played on HHI or the nearby off island courses. I feel the fees were way high for the ho-hum caliber that HHN is.

Great course, good but not great condition

Bag boy upon arrival was very surly and discourteous. He was a detriment to this facility. All other staff members were good.
