Slope is incorrect!

Nice location, staff were friendly. I don’t write many reviews mainly because golf is a great game and it shouldn’t matter whether you like it or not more that we should be thankful we get to play lol... This said, this course was surprising similar to something that would have been built to almost out people off playing, the slope rating, which the staff seemed proud to tell you, is rated way lower than what it is ‘officially’ and this is apparently to keep newbies like me coming to play. Honestly, the course is very difficult, the conditions albeit is April so potentially winter, were pretty poor with some bunkers unable to even be penetrated with a full iron swing, honestly they should be completely out of action. There is water on 13 out of 18 holes and the greens are ok. I’m really sorry to say as I’ve wanted to play this course for years, that I won’t be back

Golf and Beer

Course layout - Short with a lot of up and down. It’s extremely narrow in places but if you can place it off the tee then you will have lots of fun here.
Staff - The staff were super friendly and seemed to be happy to be working which is unusual as most popular courses that are in a prime location seems to have a real attitude problem in the bay area.
Overall - We had a blast! The kicker at this course is that there is an award winning brewery attached to the course that opens at 7am. It also has bochi ball and corn hole before you even get to the tee.

Good

This is a great course for an express pace round. I’m a single handicap and love playing wherever I go. I don’t take things too seriously but definitely appreciate positive staff and the ability to get around a nice course in a good time, especially if it’s rather hot and muggy on the course. This place ticked all the boxes and I had a blast! It’s expensive and it’s 30 minutes away (minimum) from where you’ll be staying but it’s definitely worth it.
Course - Solid, great conditions, enjoyable layout that really tests your mid and short irons. Not a long tee shot requirement outside of a par 5 and par 4 on the back but plenty of 130 to 210 iron shots available. I loved this course and will play again.
TIP - Book the 1pm ish GolfNow rates as you’ll be back and ready for a 6pm dinner (if you wish) and feeling good.

Should’ve left a review earlier!

Valley CG is a private course and I was fortunate to have the chance to play it with an invite. When I arrived I was greeted by the staff next to the putting green and they were superbly professional and upbeat - I mention this as sometimes it can be a little over the top polite. These guys and girls set the tone for a great day. The practice facility was good as they had a grass driving range and a large practice green (running very fast and true) next to the clubhouse. I checked into a fully stocked clubhouse/shop and had the pleasure of meeting Barry, the club pro, simply a great guy! I was then sent to the driving range and enjoyed some music whilst hitting titleist range balls. Once my group arrived, we simply walked over to the first hole, long par 5, and teed off. The pace of play was a solid 3:45/4 hours mid morning and the conditions were perfect. Running fairways and 12 running greens that are surprising discreet with the break.
The members range from the more mature age group to the younger/new father/mother age range. I genuinely haven’t enjoyed a round of golf with a more diverse gang for a long time before and since. I would recommend Valley GC to anyone wanting to embrace affordable, higher grade private golf. The kicker to this review is this course has had a killer par 3 for an 18th that is never a good thing... They are currently (2018) changing several back nine holes to accommodate a longer par 4 that will make this a awesome investment!

Going to be missed!

Decided to play an last minute round as golf now was offering a great deal. Got dropped off by a taxi and was immediately greeted by a member of staff who took my bag and got me set up with a cart. The staff inside the club house were awesome and professional. You have to suck up the Vegas pricing for some of the merchandise but it's only 10% on top ish. Great location, really fun and challenging layout. Definitely scorable if you have your eye in. Greens and fairways were is great shape for cold weather. The snack shack was fantastic although seriously expensive ($15 for 3 small miller lite cans). The only downside for me was the lack of a range, there is a small hitting area where you can swing a club - It's about 30 feet long and so even chipping is pretty pointless. Other than that, my recommendation is to absolutely play this course before the Raiders build a new NFL stadium on it.

Worth a go!

I honestly couldn't believe the standard of this course coming out of ski season... Awesome! The staff are always really polite and professional and although it's a pricey course, especially seeing as Colorado has an average of $40 ish and this place is $100 off peak and considerably more peak but it's worth it! Weekday rounds can be quick and really enjoyable! Long story short, definitely recommended with excellent fairways and fast/greens. Tip: Don't be tempted to always club up or down with the induration as I seemed to have minimal difference either way.

What a shame...

There are three courses in the keystone/silverthorne area that I used to absolutely love playing. The Ranch, the River and the Raven. After 2 years in CA, I returned to CO and have been pestering friends to get back to the mountains and play all three, with the Raven as a top one, along with the River course at Keystone.
I'm sad to say that the course, inclusive of the greens and patches over many of the fairways, have dropped in standard. They charge an baffling $150 for what is now a course that only really justifies half of that at the very most.
The course starter was exceptionally nice and friendly, however after that we saw no one else. I played in a 3 ball and we were behind a 4 who were truly in no rush at all. Which, to be honest is fair enough when you think that could have paid $600 to play. The reason I mention this is to explain that we waiting for up to 25 minutes on almost every hole with no site of anyone monitoring pace of play. Still, just short of 5:50 hours is good with a cart right haha???
No idea whether you want my 2 cents worth, however, I would certainly recommend checking out other courses for the experience as the only thing going for this course at the moment is the view and for the money, there are far better options in Breckenridge, Keystone and Vail. Moving forward, I'll be taking my game almost anywhere else. Sorry Raven, but you are in poor shape :(

Nothing wrong with this course at all...

My regular walking course is Meadow Hills in Aurora. I love this course for an early morning swing. The layout is fun, the greens differ from month to month with the speed, which I like and the people are always professional and friendly. The course itself used to be a country club back in the day and although public now, it's maintained well.
This is not a course that is going to stress you to the point of club bending, it's one for you and three pals to get together and enjoy the CO weather. You won't walk off thinking "what just happened", more like "that was better than last week" haha... Enjoy Meadow Hills, I haven't met someone that doesn't yet

Long muni!

We arrived 10 minutes before our tee time after flying in 90 minutes before. The staff were so good about it and pushed our 4 ball out 40 minutes so we could grab some food beforehand. The restaurant was nicely set up although the waiting staff seemed to be all over the place. The drinks were good and the food filled the gap required, but my tuna melt was pretty bad. It was mushed up tuna in a ton of mayo and a slab of processed orange cheese put on top. Not important... Back to the golf! The course was long (7200 yards) which I thought was fantastic. The greens we running 8/9 and they were really fun. The layout made it very challenging which I liked with long drives and tricky iron approaches. Overall the course seemed pretty dried up but it made the shots a little bit more manageable with the roll when you hit the fairways. The bunkers were standard but well positioned... What I would say is the couple that I was in through the round had a really shallow amount of thin/dust like sand and so you really have to pick it perfectly to get it up and out on occasion.
All four of us really enjoyed the course and would recommend playing. Hope this is helpful! Enjoy

Love & hate relationship....

I love the Ranch for the way it makes you feel when you hit a good shot. This being said, you hit and bad one and you are taking a walk back to the cart to retrieve another ball as you just lost your first... There are very few forgiving shots on this course and it is extremely up and down, literally. I love it though as every time I play it and then play almost anywhere else afterwards (where there is forgiveness), I play much better. TIP - If you choose to play the tips, make sure you are driving straight and long! Finally, greens have been punched and although they are on they're way back to FAST, for now they are less than realistic and the bunkers are really quite bad. Enjoy your round

Love this course!

The Tournament course is a course that I find constantly challenging in a positive way. It's a course that makes you think with each shot. It's not the most forgiving course at all, in fact, it's incredibly unforgiving with tricky bunkers and bending fairways. 0-15 handicap will love it, and 15-above may prefer the openness of the Valley option. I love this course as a 12 handicap

Love the course, pace of play was non-stop mostly but it was a busy day. Staff were nice and course was in good condition. Not an easy course and makes you think. We'll be back for sure
