About
Been working on trying to get better. Lost 189 lbs in just under 3 years and learning to play as a smaller person is not as easy as I thought it would be. But enjoying the game more because now I walk 18 holes instead of riding.

The Heritage Club
Played On 04/22/2015LOVE LOVE LOVE This Golf Course
Have played 40+ golf course in the Grand Strand area and this was my favorite course I have played. Got a rate of $54 with cart, any menu items and two beers. How do you beat that?
When we arrived the bag drop was busy but will organized and they shuttle you from parking lot to the club house. Course was booked solid but they are very well organized and told us we had time for our free lunch and beers if we wanted as the coupon is only good until 3pm. We had an amazing lunch then went to start area.
Starter really know what he was doing and keep things moving and sending people out. We were a two some and got paired with a regular single that was a great guy and gave us the tips on each hole.
The course was in amazing condition. Greens were perfect, running 9 on the meter. Fairways were a bit long but only because they had had 8 days of some rain and mowing had been difficult. But the course is amazing. All the holes have something to offer in terms of shot placement or carries or just plan fun. Hole 18 is amazing. Watch out for all the gators on the course.
Glen Dornoch Waterway Golf Links
Played On 04/21/2015Great Great Course
This course is sea level so shots do not carry as far so started told us to club up one or two depending on the wind.
Start was funny, friendly and had great control on getting everyone out and on time. Great speech to help everyone get started with helpful tips.
Course was in fantastic condition. Greats were running slow because of all the rain for the week leading up to when we played and fairways were a little long but again that was do to very we conditions and not being able to get out and cut.
The day we played the fairways were 90 degree rule and were still wet in some places but the course played very well. The course is a great layout and all about shot placement over distance. Some of the holes can be a little tough so play the correct tees for your handicap.
All the Glens courses are amazing and this course we really, really enjoyed.
Black Bear Golf Club
Played On 04/20/2015Has Potential
First of five rounds on the grand strand and we booked this for $35 as a good opening around after being off for winter. Now Myrtle Beach has just had 9 days of off and on rain so we knew the course would be wet and it was wet and cart path only. The course is a decent layout... nothing too technical with fairways pretty open. Water comes into play on several holes but nothing most people can't handle. Biggest issue was the greens were in very rough shape. Many seemed to be more packed mug (dirt) than actual grass. Someone at another course said that is because the winter grass is dying off and the new grass will be starting. But out of 5 courses we played only Black Bear and Aberdeen had this issue with the greens and they are just down the road from each other. Strange.
As for staff... nobody was manning the bag drop when we arrived so we parked and had to carry out clubs around the club house to the starting area. The starter was probably in his 80's and didn't really seem to have a club how to run things. Never called out names, never called out times or let anyone know when to go. Then they ran out of carts and got backed up on the start as they waited for carts to come in.
The round played about 5.25 hours in wet condition so I guess that is not too bad for cart path only.
All in all... for $35 I can't complain and I am sure that this course when dry and greens have filled in would be nice to play for the right price.
FireRock Golf Club
Played On 09/01/2014Great Course - Slow play
Going to start by mentioning the down side of the trip to Firerock. Website says "home of the 4.25 hour round". We got there on a overcast day with light drizzle and parking lot was half full... round took us just over 5 hours. Pace was very slow for such a light day. Sun did come out about four holes in.
That aside, course is very nicely laid out and some really interesting holes. The course is not a true links course but has that feel. Lots of well placed large bunkers, some waste bunkers. Greens were running pretty fast and decent size with a few soft spots.
Hitting the fairway from the tee in most cases requires a well placed shot and hitting 3 wood instead of driver sometimes the better way to go. Couple of holes with blind shots which I don't care for and good elevation changes on some holes.
Really enjoyed the day and look forward to getting back. Cost was $75 with cart and cars are mandatory.
Caradoc Sands Golf Course
Played On 08/16/2014Great course for a great price
Made the 1.5 hour drive from home to play this course and wan't disappointed. Staff was very friendly and for $35 walking you could not beat the price. Course was in amazing condition with beautifully cut fairways and greens that rolled true and consistent from hole to hole. Lots of very large bunkers on the course that were perfectly maintained but fairways on many holes give you plenty of room. Place of play was great at just around 4.5 hours walking. Walking is easy on the course as there are no large hills or long walks between holes. Just a real pleasure to play and will be going back for sure.

I drive 45 minutes to play this course regularly. Course can be very challenging with the first four holes being more links like then the next few more park style then the back tends to have a few more open holes. Course is always in great condition. Some waste bunkers and lots of other bunkers on the course and a few spots you need to watch the water or carry it all together. Love this course.
