Mesa Del Sol Golf Course
Played On 01/22/2015There is Water to be Found
My wife and I (both seniors) played this course with friends of ours (also seniors). The fairways proper themselves were quite green but also often quite narrow and bordered on both sides by yellow/dry/dead rough or hard, sandy soil which we seemed to find quite regularly (the wind didn't help). But the ball went a good way down the fairway/rough, often further than we anticipated. In most places the fairways we generous in width but there are a couple of places where the houses lining the fairways are a little closer than I prefer. The greens were in reasonably good condition, moderately fast and for the most part quite level (a few greens were sloped). They were often well-bunkered as well. Water came into play on quite a few holes so look at the diagram of the course on the scorecard before teeing off. Pace of play was alright - we did the 18 in about 4.5 hours. Overall we had a fun time, enjoyed the day and would play here again.
Indian Canyons Golf Resort - North Course
Played On 01/20/2015Another Great Golf Day
My wife and I (both seniors) decided to splurge a little and play a mid-ranged price course on our last day at Palm Springs, and the Indian Canyons North Course was well worth it. Both the fairways and greens were great condition. Fairways were like a carpet with the rough bordering them being cut a little higher; both were green and lush and combined were sufficient in width to allow for the inevitable errant shot that happens now and then. Greens were quite large and in great condition as well and though not overly severe in terms of slope did present their challenges. Pace of play was great; we played in a foursome and finished in 4 hours. And then there is the fine scenery just to add to the experience. Another great golf day.

Legend at Tahquitz Creek Golf Resort
Played On 01/17/2015Challenging Greens
We (my wife and I, both seniors) played the Legends Course at Tahquitz Golf Resort and overall found it to be more challenging than we expected (from initially looking at the diagram of the holes on the scorecard). Several longer par 3's, 4's and 5's meant longer shots into the greens, which were often well bunker-ed and sloped up from front to back. Greens were also quite firm and fast making them difficult to hold so landing short and letting the ball run on worked best for the front and mid green pin placements. Most fairways were generous in width and in reasonably good condition. Bunkers were tough to blast out of due to thin depth of sand. The course wasn't particularly busy when we played (we teed off at 12:20) so the pace of play was really good; we played in a foursome and did the round in about 4 hours - we did notice that there there was a course marshall who we saw regularly during our round. Overall an enjoyable round.
Palm Desert Resort Country Club
Played On 01/16/2015Nice Course
Overall we found this to be a very nice course for our skill level (my wife and I are seniors). Though in a gated resort community the fairways were often generous enough in width reducing the likelihood of that odd errant shot which we are prone to have ending up in someone's yard. By our standards the fairways were in good shape (though there is a lot of work being done on #10 thru #12) and there were enough hazards (between water, sand traps and tress) to make the course interesting and challenging. Greens were in good shape. The "signature" hole here - the 18th - was really fun - had to go over water twice. The starter got us on 30 minutes which was nice but we did find the pace of play somewhat slow for the 18 holes. But still a good day.
Shorecliffs Golf Club
Played On 12/07/2014Challenging Course
This course was challenging not because of its length but rather its many narrow fairways and doglegs along with strategically placed bunkers around the greens. Learned by the back nine to leave the driver in the bag on some of the shorter par 4's and go with 5 wood or iron. Some holes look deceivingly longer than they actually are so be guided by the yardage - accuracy is more important than distance on many holes. Fairways and greens were both in good condition. Even with a cart there is some walking involved as carts were restricted to paths on 8 or 9 of the holes. The only disappointment/complaint was the slow pace of play - took our foursome almost 5 hours but suspect this had more to do with it being a Sunday AM (we teed off at 10:30) and apparently there was some sort of tournament which had started earlier. Overall though my wife and I (both seniors) really enjoyed playing this course.
Fallbrook Golf Club
Played On 12/04/2014Watch out for the Trees
My wife and I are seniors and though finding this course somewhat challenging we thoroughly enjoyed playing it. Fortunately the pro shop staff provided us with a guide book which we found very useful on many of the holes. The course has a lot of trees that come into play along with some strategically place bunkers and on occasion undulating terrain resulting in uneven lies. Fairway conditions were fair to good; greens were in very good shape but played extremely slow. Overall a fine golfing experience for us.
Rivers Edge Golf Course
Played On 11/30/2014An Enjoyable Golf Course
Really enjoyed our round of golf at Rivers Edge. Fairways and greens were in great shape. Course is not overly challenging but suited us well (my wife and and I are seniors) but there are a number of strategically placed bunkers and trees that we seemed to find. It was also ideal length - par 5's not horrendously long. Worth the 30 minute drive from Laughlin.
Chaparral Country Club
Played On 11/29/2014Good course for seniors
Good value for the money (recognizing we received a great rate on the GolfNow website). 15 minute drive from our hotel in Laughlin. Need to remember the course is on Arizona time (versus Nevada) so an hour time difference. It's actually a nine hole course but played from different tee boxes on the front 9 and back 9, which was good given it was our (wife and I, both retired) first time playing it so you could apply what you learned on the front 9 to the back 9. Course is not overly long or difficult though the greens were very fast (compared to what we are used to).
Gulf Links Golf Center
Played On 04/02/2014Alright for the Cost
My wife and I are seniors and were looking for a shorter, less busy course to play on this particular day and this course fit the bill (4000 yards from back tees). Neither the fairways nor the greens were in great shape but nonetheless we found the course entertaining, and considering what it cost us by booking through Golf Now, just fine for what we wanted, our level of play and where we were staying e.g. 15 minutes away from Gulf Shores.
Oaks at Ft. Walton Beach Golf Club
Played On 03/25/2014A Well-run, Enjoyable and Forgiving Course
Wife and I are seniors and course was just right for us. Fairways and greens were in good condition; course was relatively wide and level and recovering from an errant shot was normally not overly difficult. Pace of play was also just right (marshals were on the course making sure golfers kept a reasonable pace of play but at the same time not trying to rush golfers). Overall a good experience despite the 20 mph wind that day)
