Kokopelli Golf Course
Played On 11/23/2018Black Friday
The course was absolutely packed. The course was running 15 minutes behind to start, and pace of play was over five and a half hours. Mind numbing!
You get what you pay for here. Course has dirt patches everywhere, so even if you hit good shots, your lie may not be good.
San Tan Highlands
Played On 07/12/2018Good value for the money
Great course! It’s tough though, made even tougher with the greens having been punched a couple of weeks back. It was very difficult getting a true roll on the putts. The greens were soft and receptive to approach shots, however. Overall, the condition is better than many other courses in the SE valley.

This time of year, you don’t ask for much, but a quick pace of play and good greens. Superstition Springs has both. Good course for a good price.
Apache Creek Golf Club
Played On 05/16/2018Great price, good conditions
This time of year, it can be tough to find courses that are worth the greens fees, even though the greens fees in May can be near bottom of the range. Anyway, played at 1pm, and completed the round in two hours. The course is in good condition, particularly the greens, and this course provides a great alternative to Bear Creek, Trilogy at Power Ranch, or Western Skies, all of which are nearly unplayable right now on the southeast side of the Valley.
Power Ranch Golf Club
Played On 05/11/2018Best to look elsewhere until Winter
You get what you pay for this time of year. Hopefully you get more, while braving the heat. Unfortunately, although usually a beautiful course, several of the greens have succumbed to fungus issues. Currently, half of the green on #4 has recently been replaced, and #16 has had a large portion of green added. Generally, all of the greens are having issues. This time of year, I expect dry and patchy on the course, but not on the greens.
Bear Creek Golf Complex - Bear Course
Played On 05/01/2018Best to play elsewhere right now
Bear Creek has historically been a very nice course to play. It was designed by Jack Nicklaus, and the layout is fun to play. However, the course is under new management, and apparently the new group does not care to water the course. The greens are terrible- dried out, patchy, and on #4, there was a 3’ x 3’ chunk cut out of the green (obviously with the intent to repair, but c’mon). I will not be playing this course until winter (hoping the new management group does what is needed to restore this course to as good as it can be).
Western Skies Golf Club
Played On 03/02/2018Temper expectations
The course is under new management, which was needed. The course used to be fairly nice, but has been run into the ground over the past 5-10 years. Steps recently taken to fix difficiencies include punching the greens recently, which is highly unusual for this time of year. There is also several holes with standing water- and in the fairways.
Hopefully the new management will turn this course back around. If I didn’t live close, I wouldn’t seek out this course to play.
