Slow play and aggressive golfers

The Arizona Grand Golf course was a beautiful and challenging course for a very reasonable fee. The course was due to be reseeded the following week, so I took that into consideration for overall course conditions. Overall, I would play this course again under different circumstances . . .

Firstly, the group ahead of us was playing extremely slow. I understood that they had a disabled golfer with them, so we weren't rushing them and it only became apparent how slowly they were playing as we hit the back nine and found that there were 4 holes open ahead of them. I would have expected that they would have let us play through, but did not offer or make themselves available for us to ask. This isn't a fault of the course; however, when we contacted the marshal about the slow play, he said he would be right out, but we didn't see any sign of him for the remaining nine holes of slow play. I do hold the course accountable for this.

The slow play was also holding up those behind us. This is the point about aggressive golfers. On multiple occasions the group behind us hit into us while we were waiting (and one while we were putting). Twice they nearly hit my golf partner in the head with their shots. We asked them politely each time to please not hit into us and explained that we were being delayed by the group ahead of us. On the final occurrence, they could clearly see we were on the green and putting when they hit their shot onto the green next to me (on the fly, not a lucky roller). We asked again that they not hit into us. At this point the two men in the group started to charge us yelling "what are you going to do about it". They were very angry and looking for a fight (which wouldn't have ended well for them as they were with their wives and we had four men in our group). We (not them) quickly defused the situation by staying calm. The men said they were members of the course and play it regularly so there was no excuse for repeatedly hitting into us.

The course should have taken us 3.5 - 4 hours to play; but with the slow play took well over 5 hours (closer to 6).

If the marshal can keep groups moving at pace, and address to anger issues of their self-proclaimed members, it would be an even better course.

Great course and friendly staff!

I was looking for a low-cost golf option for my 13 year-old son and me during my visit to Vegas and came across Wildhorse. I was able to book a tee time for Monday, August 4th for $15pp (great deal). I found mixed reviews here and on TripAdvisor, but figured for the price, I couldn't go wrong.

We arrived at the course about an hour early as we needed to sort out rental clubs (I didn't bother carrying mine with me on the trip). The Pro shop quickly sorted us with two sets for a whopping total of $45. So at this stage, I'm only out $75 for two players with cart and rental clubs. They also noted that it was the slow season, so we could head straight out when we were ready.

We made a quick stop at the snack bar to grab some drinks and were away. The course was well maintained with nice fairways and greens. There were manicured flower / plant beds along the fairways with a gravel / sand base. The greens played a little slow, but I am used to this from playing in Texas through the summer.

With no one on the course in front of us, my son and I managed to play 18 holes in about 3.25 hours. This worked to our advantage as a storm was approaching that afternoon.

Overall, I was very pleased with the course and would definitely play it again (even without the golfnow discount).
