Hastings Golf Club & Events
Played On 09/06/2021Nice day to play golf at Hastings Golf Club
Nice course and in good conditions. Lots of elevation change so some significant up and downs. Course is generally tree lined on each hole with a good mix of water and sand hazards. Fun to play but is a bit challenging and can be a bit tight, so not the easiest if not hitting fairways. Do enjoy playing here and the restaurant patio overlooks some of the holes.

There are some really cool elevations changes and memorable holes, with really good conditions. However the course is very difficult and many shots missing the green by a yard or two bounded into the deep grass or woods more than average. There seems to be a lot of blind tees shots, so it was hard to determine where the group in front was at. Fun to play once or twice a year. I will add, it was annoying that the golf cart GPS screen had constant advertisements and spent a lot of time tapping out to get to the hole yardage.

Did an day trip, 1 hour drive, from the Twin Cities to play this course for the first time. Absolutely loved the layout. Being a single digit handicapper I loved the variety and challenge, but still allowed some bailout areas on most holes. Good flow of gentle terrain, with a mix of prairie, woods, and hazards. Mostly a links style course with a few few pockets of woods. Greens were really good condition that rolled fast. Course was overall in good shape. New club house, golf performance facility, and cart canopy made this look modern. Will definitely be back.

Affordable track with occasional hot deal. A little bit outside of the MSP metro allows it to be a little more relaxed without slow pace of play. A fun challenging track, that is not too long, and good variety. Overall the conditions have been good and the greens running faster than expected, but their are a few areas of the course that get soggy in the wet season. Walking is doable, but there are a few hills and long distances between holes. I enjoy playing this course when I want a good challenge, decent conditions, and fair price.
Highlands at Mississippi National Golf Links
Played On 05/26/2019Lost Glory, but still fun
Kudos for the locals for saving this golf course a few years back as the previous operator closed the course. Although one of the more memorable courses, the conditions were not as it was in the glory days, as I played all 36. Granted a rough winter and wet spring does not help, but there were plenty of tee boxes and areas of the course without grass, and the bunkers looked like they have not been raked or cared for in a while. Some bunkers were converted to a rough grass depression to save cost. However, the greens and fairways were in good shape compared to other courses at this time of the year. No ranger created a 5 hour round due to one group holding up the entire course. Still would make the trip to play for the day. Clubhouse food was great, so stop in for a bite afterwards. Scenery is still top notch. Staff was friendly and made sure my experience was the best it could be.

OK, it was my Birthday and wanted to take off work early and get an end of season round in at a nice course. It was about 16 years since I last played this course, and remembered how challenging and fun it was. First of all, the course was a bit under construction, but still was in really nice shape elsewhere. I walked for around low $40's(mid 50's for a cart) and played well on this mounded, sloping, links style terrain. Some tee shots were hard to figure out where to aim, and the waving greens and surrounds, made chipping and putting very challenging. Felt like sometimes it got quirky. Although it was a great day and good experience for me, the course is a bit tough for the average golfer and would not be so inclined to return if the rates were getting in the 70's+. Definitely, a must play for anyone wanting a more true links style course. Range is quite a ways from the club house, so you have to drive your car, to go hit balls before your round. Did not have time to hit the bar and grill, but looked liked they had a fantastic view of the Mississippi River area.
Hey "Tennis02" thank you so much for the in depth review. We are glad that you found the course to be challenging but still enjoyable! We are sorry you did not have a chance to visit Doc's Landing but hope you will be able to grab something next time!

Played On 05/29/2016Good Value
Good value for a course that is fun to play. Not as long as other courses, but a lot of water hazards, so a good challenge for the better golfer. It was fairly easy to walk, with just a few longer trips from green to tee. I like the layout, except for the tee shot on par 5 18, which it is a blind downhill sharp dogleg with deep woods on both sides, and small landing areas that slopes to the deep woods. A lot of people lose their balls. It would almost be better to just convert it to a par 4 and get rid of the dogleg. Still will go back and play again.

Nice greens, very good conditions for winter. Good deal with golfnow.
Island West Golf Club

Have done a week vacation for golf in the area for a couple of years. Have played Island West a lot, mostly due to the value. Enjoy the course, but there are a few holes and conditions that are not quite at the same standard as other courses. Some of the rough areas under trees have had no maintenance for years and just a sand hardpan. One hole is in a swamp and just soggy. Greens and fairways conditions are OK, but probably one of the lesser in the HHI area. Pace of play seems to be a little slower, but still like many of the holes and enjoy playing as along as the greens are not beaten up.

Winter golf trip from the tundra north. Have played this in early February for many years and is one of my favorite golf course. Great layout and aesthetics, not a bad hole. The greens have been really good for winter golf, with the fairways fairly good from overseeding. We seem to play it after rain showers so it has always played soft. Good value.

Enjoy playing this course. It is challenging, but fair, and have some really memorable holes. Generally the course conditions are quite good. The only thing I really don't like is having three holes that have a 90 degree dog-leg. I can live with one, but three gets a little goofy.

Enjoy the layout of this course, especially the back nine. The price is great compared to other courses in the area. Generally course conditions are fairly good, but the greens could use a little more overseeding, as it seemed a little sparse.
Legends Golf Club
Played On 10/5/2012The course was beautiful with a good variety of natural features and great conditions.
Good variety of elevation change, woods, prairie, wetland, lakes, and berming. The courses best features was that each hole was sculpted to buffer you from other holes, and create some privacy. One of the best designed golf courses I have played. Excellent conditions and very enjoyable. Spendy for most golfers, so typically look for twilight or other deals if playing regularly. I played it on a 42 degree cloudy day with winds being around 30 mph, so not many people on the course, thus the round went fast. Although weather was not ideal, my experience was great.
Thank you for visiting us at CreeksBend Golf Course. We appreciate your 4-star rating and review. We hope you join us for another round soon.
