Concrete Bunkers & Slow Play

This course had deteriorated over the years. I quit playing here a couple of years ago because of slow play and mediocre conditions and had to come back to remember why. We had a 2:00 tee time but arrived about 20 min early. A foursome had just teed off and we checked in to see if we could get out a little before our tee time. The starter said we had another foursome ahead of us but that we could go after them. I looked around and saw no other carts or golfers in the area, so I asked if they were around and he replied "yes." After about 15 minutes of putting I looked to see if the foursome had teed off. No foursome. About 2 minutes later a twosome show up and tee off right away. We drive up to this starter and ask if the two guys who just teed off were the "foursome" he was waiting for. He said that they were but the other two didn't show up, leaving me with two questions: 1. If the other two didn't show up, why did you tell me the foursome had arrived when I asked earlier and 2., why'd you make us wait and extra 25 minutes (and NOT pair us up?). This starter was more interested in reading his novel than doing his job, but I digress. Moving on, the front 9 took about 2 hrs ten min. Not bad except the rock hard bunkers that were mostly unplayable. Then came the back nine which was dreadful. We ended up calling it quits after taking 2.5 hrs to play 6 holes. RE DIC U LOUS. Fortunately I'm surrounded by awesome courses and will choose to take my money elsewhere and I suggest you do the same.

Greens were terrific

This is a great resort course. The starters were awesome because I was a single paired up with another guy and he had us jump to hole #4 to avoid the backlog of duffers on the first few holes. We played all 18 in less than 3 1/2 hours. If you like playing fast I suggest getting off as the first or second tee time. The greens were pretty fast and true. Fairways were pretty wide but sometimes challenging. I liked the elevated greens on certain holes. Would certainly play again. If you stay at Iberostar Grand you get two free rounds which is a deal.

Dog track

Fresh Meadows is on of those courses you play when nothing else is available and you just HAVE to play golf. The greens have unrepaired ball marks everywhere and putting on them is like putting on 70's shag carpet. The "bunkers" contain gravel, dirt, and some sand thrown in for good measure. But, I payed less than $40 on sat morning at 8 am booked at the last minute. Like I said, gives you a fix but keep your expectations low. I've had rounds there that were on pace to play 5+ hours but I left after 9 holes.
