Esplanade at Azario Lakewood Ranch
Played On 10/12/2022Legacy Golf Club
Played On 11/13/2019Tough course, slow play
I really liked the course. I am looking forward to playing it when the weather is better. It was a little chilly and the wind was blowing quite a bit, which made what I think is already a challenging course even more difficult. The course was in pretty good shape. Not great, but good for the price. The only thing that I was disappointed with was pace of play. We teed off at 1:30 and had to quit at hole 17 due to darkness. The 2 groups in front of us were really slow and what made things worse was players from behind us skipping ahead. That really jammed things up.
Misty Creek Country Club
Played On 07/20/2018Wow, what a course! What a deal!
Where to start? Round was $15.00 at 4:30 and we able to get in all 18 so that was nice. For such a low price, I was expecting poor course conditions, but nope. Greens were in super shape. You really had to read your putts though. Fairways were nice and boxes were fine. We've paid more for courses in way worse shape than this one.
The course is challenging, but thankfully they have GPS in the carts so it was easy to plan your shots and know your distances/carries.
Staff was friendly. The lady in the pro shop took the time to tell me a little about the course. It'got me excited about the round before even stepping foot on the course.
Every hole was scenic. Tons of wildlife around the course (deer, gators, pretty birds, rabbits).
Cant say enough good things about this course. We've been in Sarasota for a little over a month and played 6 other courses, this is our favorite for sure.
Serenoa Golf Club
Played On 07/08/2018Great course, needs a few simple updates
Only one complaint about this course-Please provide the golfer with some course information!! Outside of the 150 pole, the yardage was barely marked. There were signs on the cart path at times but you couldn't really see them from the fairway. More importantly-GIVE SOME INFORMATION ON SOME FORCED CARRIES! There was a hole on the front 9 that had a visible creek, but no clue how far to carry. Another hole on the back had a creek that you can't see at all. I hit a great shot that wound up in the hazard-wish I knew it was there and how far away it was.
On to the good stuff!
The staff was great! Everyone was very pleasant. I saw a complaint about staff friendliness in a previous review so they must've solved that problem. Particularly the bar staff at lunch. Forgot their names but both super friendly.
Value-I thought it was a terrific price considering they give you a good breakfast, lunch AND a beer.
Course condition-I didn't want to downgrade the course based on condition because I'm starting to find out that its pretty typical for all courses around here this time of year to not be tip top. While not excellent-this course was in better shape than the other 4 we played at the same price point. The tees were decent-some needed some work. Fairways were punched recently-no big deal, they played nice. Greens were terrific on the front nine...got a little splotchy and slower on the back.
All in all, wonderful experience, lots of scenic views and wildlife and the course isn't very tough. Will definitely be back and will be happy to pay $30-$40 in the current condition and when things dry up and the weather cools off, I know it will be in better shape and I'll happily pay more.
u000002...
So great to hear that Serenoa GC was in better condition than the other 4 courses that you played while you were in town. Yes - Breakfast, Lunch and a draft beer is our way of creating an "all inclusive resort for the day" experience. I see that you are from Keller, TX. I lived in Roanoke for half my life. Check out Sky Creek Ranch recently?

The Highlands Golf Course
Played On 07/06/2018Neat Course
We had an early morning tee time and the course was cart path only due to recent rain. The boxes were in decent shape as were the fairways-except for lots of casual water. Not sure if they just got a lot of rain or the course doesn't drain well. I definitely want to play here again and recommend the course to others-just make sure it's dry. The greens were in excellent shape. They rolled true and were oddly fast given how saturated the fairways were. Can't beat it for the price, like I said, just make sure its a bit drier when you play.
The Preserve Golf Club
Played On 07/03/2018Very poor conditions
The staff is very friendly, particularly the starter. Unfortunately that was the only pleasant part of the day. Tee boxes were terrible, fairways even worse. Seriously, each fairway should have had about 50% or more roped off for GIR. It was either a bald lie on mud or weeds (in middle of the fairway), Just my luck I was hitting my driver well and kept winding up in middle of the fairway.. Greens were decent for the most part, though there were 5 or 6 of them that were very splotchy. Not sure what the explanation is because on the same property there is another course and it looked to be in pristine shape. Very disappointed. We have played 3 other courses in Sarasota for around $30 and they were all in way better shape. I hope for the sake of the nice staff that the course gets back up soon-it's a shame.
The Preserve Golf Club
Played On 07/03/2018Awful course conditions
I'm hesitant to rip a course but have no choice here. The starter and pro shop staff were very friendly. The course was just miserable. Tee boxes were trash, Fairways were in very bad shape as well. By bad, I mean every fairway had huge sections that could be considered GIR's....bald spots, tons of weeds everywhere, seemed very neglected. Drove the ball very well today and unfortunately found myself in middle of the fairway on most holes. Would have been better off in the rough most of the time. Some of the greens were in decent shape, but there were plenty of others that were not. I'm no golf superintendent but its hard to imagine this course being in good shape any time in the near future.
$30.00 seemed cheap enough to play and I usually weight course conditions with how much the round costs, but there are several courses we've played on in the past couple days for $30.00 and they were in far better shape.
I hope the course comes back, it was really a shame to see it like that especially when they have nice people working there. There is a Country Club in the Tara neighborhood (right down the road from this course) and it appears to be in great shape, so I don't think the weather is any sort of excuse.
Bent Tree Country Club
Played On 07/02/2018Great course/Great value
Very friendly staff, nice pro shop and clubhouse/locker room (older but in a charming way). The course was in great shape other than it being a bit soggy....lots of rain a couple days prior to playing. There was lots of nature on the course which was neat. We saw several species of birds and even a couple doe and their fawns. On top of a fabulous round, they fed us breakfast AND lunch, which was great. Enjoyed the course and will definitely be back.
Coyote Ridge Golf Club
Played On 05/25/2018Course keeps getting better
Played here in March, April, and May. It was in great shape in March and keeps getting better-especially the greens. I've played a lot of the higher end public courses and a couple of private courses this year and Coyote Ridge ranks at the top....course conditions and amenities.
The Resort Golf Club
Played On 04/22/2018Poor Shape
I'm by no means a superintendent by trade, but I'd be shocked if this course comes in at all this year. From tee to green most holes were just horrible. Seems to me the only hope they'll have of getting in a season is to shut down for a while. I play here a bunch because it's convenient and it's never been outstanding, but it's certainly been way better than this.
Coyote Ridge Golf Club
Played On 04/06/2018Great course
Enjoyed this course a lot. Staff took great care of us, course was in great shape. Somewhat tough but not ridiculous. The food was great and the off course amenities had a country club feel. Drink prices were a little high.
The Golf Club At Fossil Creek
Played On 10/08/2017Mostly good
The only negative thing I have to say about this course is that there is a lack of yardage markers...I get that there are phone apps that will give you GPS and range finders, but it's also nice to just be able to look around and find a marker somewhere, especially on the tee boxes of a par 3. I've payed less to play courses which have GPS on the carts.
On to the good stuff....the course was in great shape, staff is friendly, and we had a great time. Just through up a yardage marker here or there and you'll get 5 stars out of me.
La Cantera Resort - The Palmer Course
Played On 09/04/2017Best Course we played in San Antonio
We went to SA for a Labor Day golf weekend. Played 5 courses (all of them were nice). Turns out, we saved the best for last with this course. Staff was very friendly at pro-shop and the starter too. Course was in perfect shape. Greens were fast and a bit on the difficult side-but consistent and provided just the right amount of challenge. As far as the rest of the course, EVERY HOLE WAS PICTURESQUE. And fortunately very playable. Sometimes other beautiful courses are almost too difficult to enjoy. This course was perfect in that it was not only beautiful, but not incredibly difficult. We got a heck of a deal on the price. Will pay more next time if we need too. Worth more than what we paid!
Hill Country Golf Club - Lakes/Creeks
Played On 09/02/2017Great course if you're near or at the Hyatt
It was a nice round. Course was in pretty good shape.
Tapatio Springs Hill Country Resort
Played On 09/01/2017Nice Course
Enjoyed the course. Scenery was nice, amenities were good. Drinks a little pricey. Overall a good experience if you want to get out from San Antonio.
Wildhorse Golf Club of Robson Ranch - South/West Course
Played On 04/09/2017Not worth the money
Ground under repair around almost every green and some fairways. Some greens themselves were in bad shape too. Most courses discount their green fees when course conditions are a bit off. This review would look different if they charged $30 or so. Instead, we played $44 which was the cheapest rate of the day...the prevailing rate was $55-$60. Not really sure the course would be worth that even if the course was in good shape.
Also, beware that cart girls only have beer (no liquor).
Those were the two negatives...otherwise the staff was friendly, and the course had a nice layout. Not overly difficult, but not easy either. Sand traps were in excellent shape which is overlooked at a lot of other courses. At least when your ball finds a trap out here, there is nice sand to hit out of.
Nice practice facility
From a pure golf perspective, its great. Nice course, range and nice areas to practice putting and chipping. The par 3 course provides some challenging holes. It is in great shape.
From an amenities standpoint, it is lacking. Food? Cliff Bars and that's it. Drinks? Bottles water and soda.
I will play again and be prepared next time. Would have had more fun had I known to grab a burger or something ahead of time.
Also, no carts.
Thanks for leaving us a review. It's great to hear you enjoyed playing at our course. We have noted your comments about amenities and will keep them in mind for future changes within the course. Thanks again and we hope to see you soon.
