Rye Hill Golf Club - Championship Course
Played On 06/18/2021Mediocre At Best
Sampled a number of courses in the Cotswolds (£25-40 green fees) and Rye Hill fell short of the rest.
Early tee time meant the clubhouse was closed on arrival - which is fine, but there’s no box of scorecards outside. So had to record it on the golfshot app. No a huge issue, but something the other courses took care of.
Greens on the front 9 were unbelievably slow, making for an underwhelming start to the round.
A number of holes also had real drainage problems. There was a decent bit of rain during the round, but given the four previous days were blazing sunshine it’s not great that multiple holes had lying water all over them - ball landing in huge puddles on the fairways, tee boxes and greens totally sodden too.
Back nine greens were in better condition and played closer to the expected standard.
The handful of 450ish par 4s might be too far for the average causal golfer to reach in two.
Overall, a fairly challenging and rather long course with a lot of low stroke index holes, but generally disappointing conditions. Not a bad course, just better options available in the same area for the same price. Also no really memorable holes. Generally all much of a muchness.
