New York Country Club
Played On 09/04/2019Man Oh Man
I’m going to keep this short because it’s been a long day. This course rocks.
Plain and simple. Tough as heck, greens are pure as a newborn baby, and the layout is top notch for a semi.
9.3/10
About as solid as it gets. $62 for a weekday round post prime time. I say yes.
Be prepared for slopes, undulation and up and down hill shots. But conditions are fair and challenging and it’s a reprieve from the desolation of muni and A typical Jersey/NY golf.
Satisfied customer here.
New York Country Club
Played On 11/19/2019I mean, about as good as it gets
I’ll keep this brief, I play here in the early and late portions of the season because I don’t have it to pay $100 a round and I play a ton of golf. Having said that - this place rocks. Greens are awesome, conditions are always great. Take it from someone who has played just about every North Jersey/NY area course, this place is hard, fair and fun. I would suggest if you are super new to the game and still learning maybe give this one a wait.
Preakness Valley Golf Course - West
Played On 04/21/2018It’s a county course ...sooo
It’s not love it’s not hate. Preakness is what it is. I know...simple terms, however for a shorter track it displays a lot of shot making requirements. The issues arise around the 4th hole par 3. I have played 3 rounds here already this season and this hole is famous for 3 group stacks that require the group on the green waving up tee shots. It stays messy for the rest of the 9 in terms of pace. The back usually then somehow stabilizes. In terms of the layout/ course itself. For a “shorter” course (~6,000yds). It plays tougher. Hilly, with massive slopes on certain greens. Above the hole and your in 3 putt mode. In this sense the course can offer some gratification. All in all, the west course is more interesting and well put together. The east course delivers playability and a decent enough round. Like the first sentiment, it’s not love or hate. It’s a playable course.
Bowling Green Golf Club
Played On 08/20/2017BG is just as solid as it gets
Not going to spend all day on this one. I usually take time to review tracks that have dropped the ball so my fellow golfers can be wary. But BG is worth a huge positive review. It is simply one of the most playable properly maintained courses out there. Few do it as well as they do. Pace is typicalllly pretty solid. On occasion could be better but nothing traumatic. Overall in my humble obsessed 3X a week golfing opinion top 5/6 courses in possibly Jersey at least up north. That's all. Play here, I think the $75 price point is most fair. $100 is a bit of a stretch here.
Meadows Golf Club
Played On 02/27/2017Good grief who runs this dump !?
There aren't enough ones in the English dictionary for me to describe Meadows. Now I will give some benefit of the doubt as it is the "Off-Season". However there is such a lack of care both conditionally, and pace related. They do not employ a starter, so the first tee is quite literally a free for all. There are 5-somes with a 2-some behind and a 4-some behind with a single behind them. You would think to avoid a review such as this one the course just think "hey let's hire a starter every day we're open and tell him to try to do a good job". Conditions this time of year can be mixed...I get it, however, there are multiple cups on the greens (yes they don't plug the other pin locations) there is literally no regard what so ever to tee boxes...I could go on all day however this course needs TLC and so do many of the mid level NNJ courses and I'm frankly getting sick of them charging a fortune for tremendous dissapointment. I envy those in the Carolinas playing Nickalaus designed courses for $25 w/cart in prestine shape
Soldier Hill Golf Course
Played On 09/07/2016Oh Emerson what has happened
Every weekend when I am searching for a track to
Play I foolishly check Emerson. $90 weekend cost is so absolutely ludicrous for this course it should legitimately be a crime. The tee boxes are weeds, some fairways are completely weeds...in fact in terms of conditions the only semi respectable aspect are the greens (which are OK). This course could really be excellent with a fair amount of TLC, however it seems they have truly given up. The layout it's self isn't awful, it's a long course from both the back and white tees. Interesting holes and overhanging trees require good shot making however you can crush one smack down the fairway and land in a crevice full of overgrowth IN THE FAIRWAY! The pace can be OK or awful - truly hit or miss. All and all I wouldn't play this course ever outside of a hot deal or violent desperation. They have given up and therefore so have I. I paid $13 dollars ($20 + $3 fee - $10 promo) and still feel slighted. Stay away at all cost and if you pay $90 to Play I am simply very sorry for you! Emerson - wake up and fix the course!!!
Preakness Valley Golf Course - West
Played On 06/06/2016Good not great
Solid course, played the west side - Starts out really nice however as you enter the last couple holes of the first 9 some things change. Some very brutal fairways, strange 215 yard par 4's ...from the whites the tips maybe stretched to 240. Needless to say it is a fun course...some aspects were challenging though generally a little blah if your a decent golfer. I would give it a 5 stars for beginners...at par 69 and with some straight short holes it can be a turn off as you feel your score is not extremely justified. I'd play it again but likely only as a last resort. GolfNow hot deal is like $28-35 bucks can't do much better there.
