Bletchingley Golf Club
Played On 07/22/2022Going downhill?
The dry weather is affecting all courses at present but Bletchingley is in a mess. Tee boxes are brown and uneven. Fairways burnt to a crisp. Greens overwatered and slow. Probably worth avoiding this course until next Spring.
West Middlesex
Played On 08/20/2021Has improved so much....
The greens and tees at West Middlesex have to be some of the best in and around London - and this is a great improvement after some disappointments over the last few years. The fairways are a mixture. Most holes are classic well-manicured parkland and a few (the more difficult) are more like scrubland (2, 3, 9). Top value in London. Recommended.
Surrey National Golf Club
Played On 06/02/2021Perfect early summer golf
Course is in great condition - tees, fairways and greens. With all the hawthorn and blackthorn in bloom it is a picturesque time of year. The panorama from the clubhouse terrace is one of the best around. Off the yellow tees the course slope rating is 126 so this is a tricky course - plenty of slopes, twists and turns. The water on 3 and 5 is perilous. Very welcoming staff in the pro shop and the bar. Recommended.
Flackwell Heath Golf Club
Played On 05/31/2021Good to have Flackwell back
Course is in fine condition. Grass growing strongly after the recent rain and greens running well. Tees also very good. All four par 3s at Flackwell Heath are challenging so don't expect an easy ride. There are plenty of other tricky holes. I think the first-cut rough is a bit too long - one shouldn't have to spend time searching for a ball when it is only 3 feet off the fairway - balls are presently nestling down almost completely out of sight. Friendly pro shop and bar staff.. Recommended.
Farleigh Golf Club - Blue Course
Played On 05/26/2021Back online and in great shape
After the members'rush immediately post-Covid lockdown, Farleigh is open to the visitor/online community again. Everything is back in excellent shape - clubhouse, driving range, practice areas and the course. Many tees have been renovated, fairways are well-mown, bunkers full of sand and greens rolling consistently. All those out on the course seemed in a positive frame of mind. A joy to play here.
Croham Hurst Golf Club
Played On 05/12/2021Perfect early Spring golf
Most fairways now mown and rolled. Greens in excellent condition. Tees OK - mats still in use on all five par 3s. Trees coming out into leaf - so a real Spring feel especially after the recent rain and, now, warmer weather. Welcoming pro shop and clubhouse with lots of outdoor seating. Practice facilities all open - range, chipping and putting. A well-run club that we should all be supporting.
North Downs Golf Club
Played On 04/14/2021Playing really well
Greens at summer pace. Fairways running close to summer conditions - good run-on. Recent dry weather has helped. During Covid lockdown new hard surfaces have been installed from tees to fairways - a great improvement which will stop mud, wear and tear when it gets wetter. A well-maintained course which should not be missed at this time of year.
Bletchingley Golf Club
Played On 04/12/2021A post-covid success stroy
The clubhouse is not yet open but I'm sure it will be soon. The course itself is in great condition for the time of year and the greens are running at summer pace. Playing off mats at a few holes. But just get out there and support this well-run club!
Gatton Manor Hotel Golf & Country Club
Played On 03/31/2021Busy but it's great to be back
The slope rating tells the story that this course is more difficult than many. Generally narrow fairways and plenty of trees. So soon after the end of lockdown, it was, of course, very busy.
Oxford Golf Club
Played On 08/17/2021Course in top condition
Great afternoon. Friendly club. Perfect etiquette on the course.
Wareham Golf Club
Played On 08/15/2021Top notch
Course in excellent condition. Nice friendly club.
Pyrford Golf Club
Played On 05/14/2021Under construction
The extensive changes being made to the course are far from complete. Even if they are finished in the next 2 months I suspect the sward will not recover until the autumn. The changes underway are interesting to see and have already improved Pyrford's playability. The course is still fun to play but there are many more bare patches than usual as a result of building equipment ingress. I look forward to playing here next year when the changes should have bedded in.
Woldingham Golf Club
Played On 11/04/2020So good. But now a Covid victim.
Everything really good. Greens and tees in great condiition. Some fairways a bit soft but good to see such lush grass especially on the fringes of the greens. Such a shame the Government is closing this course for at least a month as from tomorrow - so ill-considered.
Farleigh Golf Club - Blue Course
Played On 10/26/2020Enjoyable autumn golf
It's been difficult to get a realistic tee time at Farleigh over the summer so ...at last. The blue 9 fairways are in particularly good shape as they drains so well. The red 9 fairways are a bit muddier but still very playable. Greens and tees all in good shape. I didn't play the yellow 9 but I would guess they are rather like the blues - well drained - given their elevation.. I had a great afternoon.
Sudbury Golf Club
Played On 10/22/2020Good autumn golf
The fairways are back in fine shape and have recovered from the dry weather in July. Greens and tees immaculate as usual. Autumn leaves make this a great treat at the moment. Very friendly club and the merriment watching others complete the uphill par 3 by the clubhouse is a cheerful feature.
Woldingham Golf Club
Played On 10/19/2020Still playing well
The trees are changing colour in Haliloo Valley - so it's a delight. Course conditions still good despite recent rain. New sand now in most of the bunkers. Winter rules in operation. Greens still running well.
Coombe Wood Golf Club
Played On 10/14/2020Recent rain means winter rules
It's good to have this course back on Teeofftimes as it has been absent for most of this year no doubt because of member demand for tee times. There is quite a lot of work underway on the course which is a good sign - resources being available to do what is necessary. The ground under repair is not intrusive. Recent rain has meant winter rules are needed already. It is a tight course so if you can hit the ball straight you will enjoy your round.
Surrey Downs Golf Club
Played On 10/08/2020Bunkers, bunkers, bunkers
I really like this course, its setting and the clubhouse. But I think the Covid excuse is now out-of-date and it's time to do something about the bunkers which have been left untended for months with many having grass growing in their bottom.. There is a huge delivery of new sand in the car park which has been there for months and it has not moved. Come on chaps!
Surrey National Golf Club
Played On 09/22/2020A challenge at every single hole
I would guess this is not a course for those with a handicap over 24 - you need to be able to direct your shots with reasonable accuracy and consistency. For those with these core competencies it is a real challenge, and great fun. Anti Covid measures fully in place and, remarkably, everything operating well including tee boxes, greens, fairways pro shop and clubhouse.
Westerham Golf Club
Played On 09/21/2020Firm underfoot but plenty of grass
The many tree-lined fairways at Westerham are on the narrow side so overenthusiastic big hitting is likely to be punished. Chose your most reliable and accurate clubs wherever you can. There are also a number of holes where the first shot can scoot off down a hill - this is easily avoided by playing a shorter first shot and taking the slope with your second. The course has pretty much recovered from the parching of midsummer reported by others but it is still firm underfoot and the ball will go prodigious distances given half a chance. A good challenge and I will be back.
Thank you for your review and your feedback. We are pleased you enjoyed your day and we look forward to seeing you again soon!
