Maspalomas Golf Course
Played On 10/13/2015Good holiday course
Played Mespalomas in the company of two golfers from Kent, Brian and Malcolm. Starter paired us together which was good as I think I would have been bored playing on my own.
The condition of the course was good although there was still evidence of recent hollow tining on the greens, particularly the front 9. Back nine greens much firmer and putted faster than front nine. Different grasses on the greens perhaps ?
Overall I was say this is a decent course with a good range of holes - not overly difficult.
Gairloch Golf Club
Played On 08/07/2015Another wee gem in the Scottish Highlands
Played whilst touring North of Scotland in August.
Rain overnight left some visible signs - a few standing puddles on some fairways ; greens soft and very receptive.
Club has recently invested in new grass cutting technology which was helping to provide good putting surfaces with good pace.
The course has two sets of tees which do provide significant changes and challenges second time round.
Staff in the clubhouse were friendly and welcoming.
Again some great views so don't forget your camera.
Durness Golf Club
Played On 08/06/2015Good course with some great views
Played Durness on a lovely afternoon whilst touring round North of Scotland. Beautiful wee 9 holer with two sets of tees -to make the back nine a bit different.
Some great views so be sure to take a camera.
Greens relatively small and in good nick - although they keep the grass relatively long so they tend to play slow but true !
Fairly tight fairways with plenty of opportunities to lose the odd wayward shot !
Met a couple of locals in the clubhouse. Both were extremely courteous and welcoming.
Well worth playing if you have the time.
Florida Keys Country Club
Played On 04/09/2015Overpriced for a very poor course
The course and club has been sold and is now trading under a new name - Keys Colony Country Club.
I was extremely disappointed by the condition of the course. In fact I would say it is has to be the worst kept course I have played in almost 40 years of playing golf. It makes the modest municipal courses I started playing in Glasgow in the 60's look like Augusta !
I only hope the new owners do fulfil their promises of renovating the course.
Key West Golf Club
Played On 04/07/2015Good holiday course
I played Key West in the company of a gentleman from Maryland. We both enjoyed playing the course and agreed that it was a good vacation course. Sufficiently challenging but nothing too hard. The infamous 8th hole is a straight forward par 3. Just hit your shot and remember it is a par 3 so you need to hit the green ! Do that and two putts later you have your par !!
The course could do with a bit more maintenance but generally it was in reasonable condition.
If you are that far down in the Keys then why not play the course and see for yourself.
