Harbor Park Golf Course
Played On 04/24/2023Carts have gps yardage
This course is half a regulation course. It has two long Par 5's and Par 4's of varying length. You will use all of your clubs. This is a William Bell design gem. I highly recommend this course. It is difficult but fair. Come ready to play golf.
Recreation Park South
Played On 04/21/2023Lil Rec is Good
9-hole Little Recreation Park is a fun course to play. There are sea breezes which make the course cool, even during the summer. The greens have slope and some hidden knolls. Putting is tricky and the turf can be snaggy. Therefore, success comes from getting approach shots below the hole. Good chipping and pitching is a must. Holes are short so approach shots, putting, and chipping are key.
El Prado Golf Courses - Chino Creek
Played On 08/09/2022Challenging But Nice
El Prado-Chino Creek Course was fun to play. It was uncrowded and a well designed golf course. It is a challenging course. We played from the blue tees, but it still would have been hard from the white tees. Some fairways are narrow and the wind plays a part in making it difficult. Yet, it was still fun to play because you can make pars and birdies if you concentrate. You won't bully this course but it won't bully you either. It is a scenic, relaxing, solid test of golf. It is not fancy nor manicured. There are dry patches, divots, other unkempt areas. However, overall it is maintained sufficiently to allow normal golf play. It is worth the price.
Rancho Duarte Golf Club
Played On 09/23/2020RD is short but uses all your clubs.
RD is a fast 9-hole golf course. There are par-4s so you can use your woods. And, RD starts off with a 60yd par-3. So, you could start off with a birdie with the right pitch and putt. After that, you can use you short irons, mid irons, and, long irons on the par-4s. RD is a good practice course and the variety of shots makes it fun.
Wilson at Griffith Park Golf Courses
Played On 06/26/2020Long, Long Golf Course
My son hits the long ball so he was a perfect fit for Wilson Golf Course. He hits between 280 and 300 yards. My best drive goes only 190 to 200 yards. I was outmatched by Wilson. Holes that are 420 play like 440. If you decide to play Wilson, you should drive the ball at least 250 to have a chance. But I still had fun. The pitching, chipping, and putting were fair. So, my score did not balloon too high. However, I never had a chance at birdy.
National City Golf Course
Played On 07/29/2019Nice Executive Course
National City Golf Course is an Executive 9 Hole course that is an excellent value for your time and money. You can use your driver and long irons and accuracy is rewarded on short iron approaches. There is snaggy rough in spots but the fairway is maintained and rewards the golfer with logical shots to the green. For the price, you can't beat this course.
La Mirada Golf Club
Played On 04/14/2018William F. Bell Design
La Mirada Golf Course is a William F. Bell design. The Bell family designed dozens of golf courses in California and the West. La Mirada is a truly great golf course. William Bell designed his courses to reward logical and skillful play. If you hit a long, straight drive, you are rewarded with an easier approach shot. If you hit a short straight drive, the greens have openings to accept a 3-Wood or Long Iron shot. But, if your drive is crooked. Then, you need to analyze the best recovery shot combinations because the angles and elevations can serve up a double-bogey really fast. So, the course rewards the thinking player as well as the talented player. Bell always follows the terrain in the best way possible. His layouts are natural and appear straight forward. However, if you stop thinking, the strokes will add up. In other words, if two players of equal talent play his designs, they won't necessarily shoot the same scores. His course don't destroy you, but, they add-on a stroke here or there. You always leave the course believing you could have shot lower. But, the only way to do that is to think during the whole round.
Pico Rivera Golf Club
Played On 09/23/2016Strategy and skill are tested on this course.
Pico Rivera Golf Course is a gem of a short course. The trees and rough that frame the fairways don't severely penalize but, instead, make getting par harder. The two short Par 4s place danger near the green to dissuade long drivers from driving the hole. The greens are sloped and many have ridges which confuse any golfer trying to figure out which way a putt breaks. So, even though Pico is a short course, very few people par the course. It was designed by famed golf course designer William Bell. His golf designs have subtle difficulty. Before you know it, you get a bogey or double. Strategy and skill are rewarded and stupid decisions are punished. Pico Rivera Golf Course is a Bell treasure.
Pico Rivera Golf Club
Played On 10/26/2013Great course to work on your short game, irons, and show off your drives
Pico Rivera is a Par 29 golf course. It has two short par 4s. This is no putt-putt course, however. This course has traditional, hardy, lush municipal course grass. That means, if you hit a chip fat, your clubhead will stop. So, this course is outstanding for working on your short game. You won't be chipping or pitching to within 3 feet easily. You will be rewarded if you land on the green because the greens are medium speed and the breaks are readable. If you don't land on the green, you will have to really work for par. The two Par 4s can be driven by Bubba Watson-type players, but that is a mistake. Because of the chewy municipal course grass, it is far better to be hitting a full Pitching or Sand Wedge into the green than chipping.
