The Club at Lac La Belle
Played On 06/11/2021Great end to a Wisconsin week
We had our final round of our trip at CLLB and it was a great experience. Very different course from what we experienced at other stops. Scale felt intimidate, but not confining. Great green complexes with a true roll and fairway contours that made a big impact. Bunkers uniformly in great condition.
We took the caddies offered through their training program. Both were nice, but it was literally their first time looping ever. It would have been nice to have a little more experience with targeting landing areas and strategy having never seen the course before. But it was great to start to give them tips on how to make a good experience for the golfers. Also a perk that there is no caddie fee and that the recommended gratuity for caddies is the same as a cart fee!
Old Orchard Country Club
Played On 02/19/2017Painfully slow
Surprise February weather led everyone and their brother to come out for a round. There were groups on the tee sheet every 10 min which led to a 5:15 round. Acknowledging the course wouldn't be in the best condition in Feb, the fairways were decent, greens understandably bumpy in spots. No rakes for bunkers, so by the afternoon everything was all ripped up. Annoyingly, no tee markers, no trash cans out. No marshal to push groups to move it along. Holes are pretty close together, so lots of errant shots.
Seemed a bit steep in price compared to other local options the same day. Wanted to try a new course, but don't think I'll come back.
Oak Brook Golf Club
Played On 02/17/2017Still in good shape
A busy Friday afternoon with the unseasonably warm Feb weather. There were about 7 people showing up for the same 1:30 tee time, but have not had a problem like that in the past. Walked as a single, paired up with 3 others. Got around in about 4 hours. With the season, fairways were in good shape, greens rolling well. Bunkers in surprisingly good shape. Overall, feel that the course is generally overpriced during the regular season, usually waiting for specials online, but for the time of year, it was a great afternoon.
The Quarry Golf Course
Played On 02/10/2017Amazing time
I had heard great things about the course and new I'd need to try and get a round in when visiting San Antonio. Was able to come across a Hot Deals time and it was well worth it. Smallish (irons only) driving range, good sized putting green. The front 9 is a decent layout, a standardish linksy style, but very enjoyable. The back 9 is where it gets interesting as you move down into the old quarry. Beautiful rocky landscape - the photos don't do it justice! Overall great condition. Would definitely play again. On a Friday morning, was able to finish in under 4 hours.
TPC San Antonio - Canyons Course
Played On 02/09/20172 rounds - both excellent!
Played 2 rounds at the Canyons course during my stay at the resort. Booked online and was pleasantly surprised by the twilight rate at 1pm that was not advertised on the site. Played one round as a single, didn't see another person on the course, and did a loop in 2:45. The second round was a planned 5 some, still didn't see anyone else, and got around in 4 hrs. Beautiful condition of everything. Punishing approaches to greens. Would definitely consider playing up a set of tees. Really nice practice facilities, including short game/bunker area.

Got a $26 Golf Now rate as a single. Since it was cart path only after heavy rains, decided to walk with a push cart. Was paired with a twosome on the front nine with a twosome in front and behind us. My original twosome were just going to play 9 holes, so maybe it would have been helpful to pair me with another group. Lots of elevation changes, some narrow fairways as well. Played the front in 1:50 and the back in 2:30ish Bunkers were understandably wet, but mostly ok. Greens ran smooth. Congested back nine with some 5 homes talking/betting on the tee. Didn't see a ranger after the 5th hole.
Would play again for a good rate, maybe just not a weekend.
George W Dunne National Golf Course
Played On 07/24/2016Water logged
Booked a $50 Golf Now rate as a single for a 5:56am start. There was a highway road closure from an accident and the staff was very friendly when I called and was able to get paired with a twosome when I arrived. Unfortunately the round was after a heavy night of raining so the course was very water logged. Lots of staff out pumping bunkers and getting rid of standing water.
Nice greens, rolled well. Lots of bunkers to defend approaches, in good shape on later holes as things started to dry out. Even with my standard heavy fade, the fairways were generous.
A nice challenging course, even from the white tees. Played in about 4 holes. Would definitely return of the price was right.
Blackhawk Trace Golf Club at Indian Lakes Resort - Woodland Course
Played On 03/11/2016Got $24 GolfNow deal - Walking - Woodland/Island
First round of the season, beautiful March weekday. Was the first one off at 8am, playing as a single. Woodland 9 first, then Island 9 to finish. For the time of year, tee boxes, fairways, and greens in good condition. Short rough. Most bunkers packed, but a few with loose sand. Greens were very slow (not surprising for time of year) but ran true. Driving range not open yet (tentatively early April). Good value for the time of year, but would be interested in how the course plays when at peak condition. As a single, walker with push cart, played a 3.5 hr round.
Thank you Lonnie for your review and feedback of Indian Lakes Resort. We are so happy to hear you had such a a great experience with us and we hope you will continue to golf with us throughout the season. Please let us know if you ever need anything and come back and see us again soon!
Ravisloe Country Club
Played On 11/20/2015Got a $20 GolfNow special
One of the last rounds of the season and the course was really in great shape. Tee boxes and fairways were in great shape. Greens smooth with lots of slope, but running a little slow. Lots of bunkers creating a nice framed view down most holes from the fairway. I walked with a pushcart which was very manageable. While a visually appealing old course, I would hesitate to paying the full price listed on their website. Will keep it in mind if they have another special.
Meadow Links Golf Course
Played On 08/17/2015Disappointing course conditions
Staying with some family in the area and have driven by the course many times. Looking for a quick and easy 9 holes. $17 for walking 9 holes and a small bucket of range balls which I thought was reasonable. Every tee box had overgrown grass. Each fairway was 50/50 long grass and crab grass/weeds, and each green was overgrown with large dirt patches. Was hopeful for a fun experience but ended up just rushing to finish ASAP. At least there was no one in front of me (I wonder why?). I hope they can make some small improvements to at least make the course somewhat enjoyable.
Fresh Meadow Golf Course
Played On 07/29/2015Room for improvement
Payed $25 to walk with a rusty pull cart on a weekday afternoon. Was warned that 2 junior groups were just getting off on their 9 hole rounds. Tee boxes in poor condition with either little grass or lots of crab grass. Fairways in decent shape. Some greens with brown patches and divots. Frustrating that their water coolers were empty since it was a sunny, humid 85 degree day. Has a nice (albeit slightly overpriced) range, putting, and chipping area. Would be willing to play more if some cosmetic improvements were made. A ranger would be very helpful.
Hi Lonnie, we are really glad to hear you enjoyed your round and that our staff was helpful and didn't allow traffic to get in the way of your round. The course is clearing quickly from recent rains and we hope you come back to enjoy another round soon!
