Bucket list, must play

If you are ever near the Great Smoky Mountains in the western side of North Carolina you must play this course. Gorgeous doesn’t do it justice. Paired up with a guy from Miami. First ones out and it was as if we owned the place. 7:30 and we were done by 11AM. Two different nines. Front side mostly flat in the valley by the road. The back side is up and down mountain golf. Mountain vistas, mountain stream you hear and see, fast green carpet putting surfaces, maintained fairways. 13th hole is called The Spasm, find out for yourself. Go there and play it. If I could have I would have played it again after lunch.

You Must Play Springdale

If you ever get to western North Carolina you have to play this course. It’s one of the most beautiful golf courses I have ever had the pleasure of playing. Trust me, it was a pleasure. The front side is far more flat than the back side. The back nine plays up and down through the Great Smoky Mountains. The conditions are private course level, the greens are green carpets and the people there couldn’t have been nicer. I play the gold forward tees now, the slope is still 121 and the blue boys play at 134!!! Hole 13 is called The Spasm. 😂 It’s a test for anyone , but it’s a bucket list must play for sure.

Windy

1922 vintage golf course. 100 years ago they didn’t have irrigation and drainage systems like today. They had to use slopes and gravity. Lots of hills, slopes and bumps one this beauty. The wind was absolutely howling the day I played it. I never wanted to get to the car heater as I did that day. The course itself is a classic old school routing. You’re going up to get over the hill or up to get to the green. My legs are almost 70 years old and I don’t think it would be a good idea for someone like me to walk this one. I will definitely play it again when the course and the weather have warmed up.

Mid Week Rain

It rained a little this week and that made Quail Ridge green, great and gorgeous. The fairways were much nicer than they were during the dry summer. The greens were smooth and rolled beautifully. I didn’t make any putts, but that’s my fault, the greens were awesome. Quail Ridge is always a pleasure to play and a challenge for anybody. I have played here almost every Sunday morning for the last two autumns. It’s one of the best 9 holes around, easy to get to and a course you need to play.

Next Sunday It Will Be Perfect

I play here almost every Sunday morning in the autumn months. Yesterday the fairways were much nicer than before. Cooler temperature and some natural rainfall brought the course much closer to peak condition. The greens had been aerated a few weeks ago and they had that final bumpiness. Next Sunday this course will be at its best. The fairways will have grown back from the dry summer heat and the greens will have been rolled and cut ending the aeration bumps. Looking forward to my Biblical tee time John 7:15, LOL! The course will be perfect!!!

My Sunday 9 Holes

When my grandchildren go back to school I can’t play 18 during the week anymore. Quail Ridge is the perfect go to place for me. It’s a gorgeous, truly testing 9 holer that was condensed from the former 18 hole private country club. It’s been an extremely dry summer and the greens had been aerated recently, so the course was not at its best this time. When Quail Ridge is Quail Ridge it’s one of best, nicest and challenging courses you can fine. I’ll be there every Sunday morning till the snow flies. You’re invited and you won’t be disappointed.

My Go To 9 Holer

I started playing Quail Ridge last fall and until they closed. I have played it several times now and have always had a great round. I usually play very early in the day, this time I was the first one off. The course is always in good shape with excellent greens. I played by myself and whipped through the nine holes in a little more than hour. I walked the somewhat hilly terrain with relative ease for a man of almost 69. The course is interesting, the people there are nice and the clubhouse is amazing. It used to be an 18 hole private course and it feels like it.

One Of The Best Around

It's a beautiful golf course with an elegant clubhouse. The staff is very friendly and it's just a must play for anyone in New England. Butternut is a few rungs up from an average, regular course in this area. It gets four or five stars in the ratings I'm sure. Fast, but true rolling greens. Tree lined holes with tight fairways. If you can't hit the tee shot straight, you will be in for a high scorecard I can assure you that. I have played here many times over the years, before the new clubhouse was built even. Put it on your must play list.

Rustic

If you need fancy, elegant, pristine, country club golf then this one is not for you. A rustic setting in the low mountains of Massachusetts is what you will find here. It would be a great place to bring a beginner golfer, a junior or your wife or girl friend to introduce them to the game. The greens were very good. The course is not long and if you can still HIT it you could drive some of the greens. It was a very enjoyable 9 holes on a Sunday morning. Great place to sneak 9 holes in. it's a pleasant, pressure free place to play.

Pronunciation

It's BURR-lin not Ber-LYNN in Germany. I don't know how many hills there are in Berlin, Germany but there are lots of ups and downs on this course. The elevation changes on every hole. The greens are not undulating, but they have slopes and were faster than I expected for March. The 4 of us had longer second putts than the first ones .No par 5s, short par 4s between 264 and 332 and 3 short par 3s, 108, 127 and 133. Nice place for my first round of the year. Knocked the ice off the clubs. An accurate driver of the ball can have wedges into the greens all day. Great place for an enjoyable 9 holes. Staying below the hole is a must. no down or side hill putts!!!

I Took A Cart This Time

It’s a one hundred year old nine hole beauty, but it’s a tough walk. I walked it the first time I played here. Each of my legs is 68 years old and the up and down of this hidden gem is too much for me now. It’s a great nine holes on a piece of property that was meant to have a golf course on it. It’s a test for anyone from any of the tees. They maintain the place wonderfully. They were blowing the leaves as I played through. Gorgeous greens and excellent fairways. When you walk off the ninth green you wish there were nine more.

It's A Lot Of Fun, But Not Easy

It's across the street from the Plymouth Airport and the entrance is the drive through lane for a Dunkin's. It's definitely a fun place to play. It's all par 3's for 18 holes. Do not miss the greens. No kidding on a par 3, but the bunkers are deep and steep, miss the green left, right or long and you will be faced with a very tough chip. Water can come into play on many of the holes. The greens are beautiful, but with plenty of undulations, big breakers, uphill, downhill and plenty of speed. I never played here before but I had a great day of enjoyable golf.

5 Loops at Quail Ridge So Far

I have played here 5 times since the beginning of September. Can’t play 18 during the week now since my grandchildren went back to school. I needed to find a 9 hole course for Saturday morning. I found a great one!! Quail Ridge is one of those hidden gem golf courses. It’s a challenging nine holes with a strong slope rating from all the tees. Interesting holes, water on some, forced carries off the tee and bunkers on all of them. Beautiful tees, fairways and greens and an absolutely gorgeous clubhouse. Just up the street from the Rte. 2 rotary in Acton. You need to play here, you’ll love it!!!

100 Years Old

Built in 1921 and it still looks great. You can tell the difference between golf courses built when golf first came to America and the new style courses. It’s a very natural setting, as if it was supposed to be a golf course here. Lots of hills, lovely fairways and great greens. They call these places, “hidden gems.” Westborough GC is a hidden gem. I’d never played here before and I enjoyed it immensely. It was a tough walk for my 68 year old legs so I will get a cart next time. There will be a next time for sure. The next time you want to play a great 9 holes come here.

Second Loop

I have played here the last two weekends. It’s not an easy course, the slope rating starts at 120. Lots of elevation changes and demands good tee shots. I didn’t play well today, but it’s a great 9 hole course that I will play over and over again. The clubhouse is amazing, as the course was once a private 18 hole course. It’s easy to get to, it’s right off Rte 2 in Acton. More than enough course for anyone. The back tees play to a slope of 134. Great greens, interesting and challenging holes. My autumn course till the snow starts.

New Favorite Nine

This was once an eighteen hole , private golf course. About 10-12 years ago one of the nines was sold off to a condo development. The remaining nine is an up and down test for anyone. The slope ratings are 120, 128 and 134 front to back, so it’s not an easy one. The 7th hole is unique, it must have combined two of the original holes. If you do two loops, on the front nine you play it as a par 5 to a green dog leg left and on the back it’s a straight away par 4 to a different green. The clubhouse is gorgeous and the amenities are top of the line. I don’t usually play just 9 holes but in the autumn I have to squeeze golf in. This place will be my go to place on Saturday or Sunday mornings. Just a beautiful golf course.

It Has A Burial Ground

Made the turn the first time I played here years ago and much to my surprise to the left of the 10th green I saw the burial plot of several people, long dead. It was an interesting touch to a good place to play. Lots of ups and downs on this one. Keep the ball in the fairways. The greens have subtle turns as the ball gets to the hole. Great place to play.

Pembroke Pines Is The Name

It's a challenge for anyone. Pick the right tees for you. The front side is the original nine and is more wide open and a little more forgiving. The back side is a more strategic, shot making nine. The greens on the back side have much more undulations than the front. Plenty of golf course for any level player. Great place, easy to get to. I have played here several times and enjoyed all the rounds.

A Cut Above

Campbell's is a cut above a normal public golf course. The course is always in great shape and due to all the rain New England has had this summer it is greener than ever. Great course really nice clubhouse. Campbell's has become more player friendly in the past few years with the removal of some trees and bunkers. If you are playing well you can post a nice score here, especially the back side. Great great great place to play.

1906 Donald Ross

It's an old Donald Ross design that had a 2010 restoration. I must be honest. Many years ago I was told by some golfers that this course was "a rock pile." Not the review you would want to hear. I assure you it is a very nice old style, up and down, tees and greens Ross course. The restoration and improvements make it a fine place to play. A somewhat quirky par 70 layout with seven par threes, three on the front and four on the back Water can come into play on many of the holes. It has a big, beautiful clubhouse overlooking the golf course. I will come back again in the near future. Give it a try.
