Suneagles Golf Club
Played On 03/08/2021Improvements are great
I'm amazed by how much money the owners are putting into this course, and it shows. They are really trying to make Suneagles a top course in the area. New drainage, new bunkers, new greens on 16 and 17, fairway repairs, and even cleaned up the ponds. Its nice to see money going back in to a course instead of the owners bank account, which sadly is what a lot of public courses do. Steve is great, very processional, very friendly place. 4 stars because repairs are still coming along and theres two temp greens.
Spooky Brook Golf Course
Played On 01/04/2020Great greens
Greens always seem to be in great condition, even in winter. Course is wide but its not totally flat like some reviews suggest. There's plenty of rolling hills to keep things interesting and still easy to walk. Low rough + generous fairways means quick pace of play. Since its wide open, wind can be a real issue. Whatever the forecast says for wind, double it at least.
Gambler Ridge Golf Club
Played On 10/08/2014Nothing spectacular
The layout is a bit on the dull side, but the grounds were fairly well kept. Pro shop guys are not the friendliest, cart girls were great though. Very reachable par 4's, greens rolled true, rough was on the short side.
Minebrook Golf Club
Played On 07/07/2014Overcrowding led to slow round
unbearably slow pace of play, they cram way too many golfers on this course and rangers do nothing but drive around and wave. Had to leave early (again). Won't be back, i've learned my lesson.
Old Orchard Country Club
Played On 07/03/2014Unusually Slow greens
I play Old Orchard fairly often and love the layout and old style charm that it offers. 7th hole with an approach shot to a true island is a lot of fun. Staff are always friendly and the conditions were better than expected. However, the greens were very slow. In great shape and I could stick the ball an inch from the ball mark, but they were some of the slowest greens I've played this spring. Other than that, we had a great round.
Green Knoll Golf Course
Played On 06/24/2014Fun track
Course was in good shape, greens rolled true. Not a very challenging front 9 but back kept things interesting. Not sure why this is course is known for narrow fairways? seemed fairly wide-open to me and adjacent fairways made errant tee shots playable. No rangers keeping tabs on slow play so pace is a roll of the dice; Some times you win, some times you lose. Great day of golf for the price.
Red/White at Limekiln Golf Course
Played On 06/12/2014Fun track
Best greens I've seen this spring, it was a real treat. Fairways, tee boxes, bunkers, all in good shape. Staff was friendly and helpful, nice not to get the usual "discount attitude". Played red/white, a good mix of holes to keep you guessing. Not much sand but lots of trees and some undulating fairways to throw you off. Rough was fine, not too tall. Course plays to its yardage, not too long. Will definitely be back.
Apple Mountain Golf & Country Club
Played On 05/30/2014Beautiful Coure
Maybe made better by an absolutely gorgeous day weather-wise, but some of the views of the surrounding countryside were amazing. I liked the old apple trees dotted along some of the fairways. The course is past its prime but has a lot of character. Elevation changes presented a real challenge on a lot of holes as I'm used to playing relatively flat courses.
Conditions were good, greens were fast on this sunny breezy hot day. Will be back soon.
Minebrook Golf Club
Played On 04/21/2014Fun, challenging course
Great track with some very interesting holes that require a lot of thought. Lots of elevation changes that caused me problems. Course was in great shape for this time of year. By stroke of luck, I got paired up with one of the pro shop employees "Chad", who was top notch. A great guy, had lots of helpful advice, and fun to play a round with. Greens were in very good shape, as were the fairways. Tee boxes could use some attention, and they are in the process of sprucing things up for the season, including the bunkers.. All in all it was a great day of golf. I will be back soon!
Mountain View Golf Course
Played On 04/18/2014Course in great shape
Course was in very impressive shape for this early in the season, greens especially. Fairways had a couple of soggy patches from the wet spring but other than that . . . no complaints at all. Interesting enough layout, course definitely plays long.
Not sure why its called Mountainview though; there aren't any views, certainly none of mountains. No matter, I'll be back soon!
Pebble Creek Golf Club
Played On 04/07/2014Fun and challenging
Great track for a very reasonable price. The course provides a good array of shots to challenge all levels of play. Some tough shots but all-in-all very playable. Greens were in great shape and fairly quick for so much rain they've been having, fairways were well kept. Lots of small ponds throughout the course, which I like. Lots of tall trees. It can get busy but the Rangers did a good job keeping things moving. I will definitely be back.
Heron Glen Golf Course
Played On 08/15/2013Can't believe its a Muni
Very interesting, picturesque links style layout. Greens are a bit speedy and there's plenty of sand. If the fescue is up bring some extra balls. The course demands a bit of thought, which i really like. And it always seems to be in pristine condition, even when other nearby courses are taking a hit, Heron Glen remains unscathed. Definitely one of the best maintained public courses in NJ. The only negative is that it is a VERY busy course. Good for the club; not for the golfer. Rangers do their best with the hand they've been dealt, but the real problem seems to be over-booking, which leads to unmanageable crowded conditions. The Club House? Yeah, its basically a double wide trailer. But I don't go to golf courses to eat or roam around the clubhouse. Heron glen is a must play for any serious golfer.
