Great course.

The conditions were great. Greens were a little soft from recent rains but rolled faster than your average public course. Great mix of holes with a few blind tee shots. I’d recommend the yardage book or an app that shows the hole layouts and run out distances on tee shots. You’ll be playing plenty of shots with a ton of elevation change. Play the correct tees or you’ll be in for a long day. Greens are well protected with bunkers and have a lot of undulation under them. Just a fun course to play.

Nice layout but the greens need attention

The course has a very nice layout. The front 9 is a little more open. The back plays more like target golf, not just grabbing driver a blasting away, at least for my group. The fairways were in good shape, and were firm giving the ball a lot of rollout. The rough was decent length. There is a lot of blind tee shots, so if it's your first time playing the course, take a ride up the hole a bit and find a target. There isn't much trouble off the tees but it will help with make a confident swing off the tee.

Now for the greens.... The greens are rock hard to say the least. I am a high ball hitter and sand wedges were bouncing like landing on concrete, getting no spin and rolling out off the back of the greens. Not even a ball mark on any shot into the greens. I am all for a firm golf course but good shots should be rewarded with an occasional bad break. If the pin was in the back of the green or middle, it wasn't too bad because you could land the ball short and let it bounce up,even with wedges. If the pin was in the front, forget about even getting it close or on the green because the approaches would bounce the ball crazy directions and were equally as rock hard. You could heard the firmness when the ball landed. The pin locations were in very tough locations for the firmness of the greens. Again, I am all for tough pin locations, but the course conditions need to dictate that. I thought the green would be a lot faster with the firmness but were very slow. A lot of old cups on the greens need attention and are not healing and there is a lot of bare spot on the fringes.

If it wasn't for the greens, I would give this course a higher rating, but the greens are the main part of the course. I can deal with a so-so course if it has good greens....just not the other way around.

We played on a Monday night and got a $20 deal. We played in three and a half hours and had no one in front of us. It was one of the nice parts about the day. They do have a driving range there that is enough to get some swings in. The range tee is very beat up and the driving range goes up hill. Like I said, good enough to get a couple swings in.

Twisted Dune

We took a 3 and a half hour drive from the Scranton area to play. We were getting antsy with snow still on the ground and we were glad we took the trip. TD is a visually intimidating golf course with more room in the fairways than appears on most holes.Fairways were quite large and in very good condition for the end of March. They also got very good roll out on drives. Do not stray to far off the fairways because there is bunkers everywhere. Kind of like a Chamber's Bay setup. Heck, the cart paths are even sand and per local rule, no free drop and must play it. Some bunkers do have a considerable amount of rocks in them which is my only complaint, especially after getting 3 new Vokey wedges from Santa. The greens were in great shape and are pretty large. They rolled very smooth and at a pretty quick pace. Some greens had some pretty large undulations in them making 3 putts a reality. the fescue wasn't grown up yet but I would love to see this course mid summer and we will be back. Must play in the AC area.

Very nice layout

This was my first time playing Berkleigh and took an hour and a half commute south for December weather that was ten degree warmer and for $29 winter rate. I am very happy I took the drive. Berkleigh has a nice layout, not overly long, and well bunkered greens. The fairways are pretty generous and there is not anything that will really trick you, except on 11. It's a blind tee shot, over an elevated hill in the fairway with a creek about 230 yards out. Each hole had distant characteristic and we often stepped to the tee box or looked back at the hole from the green and said that was a nice hole. The condition of the course for playing in December was pretty good and green. The fairways and tee boxes were nice, although a little shaggy and not in summer condition as expected. The greens were slow and tough to read, but large enough to catch an errant shot. Understandable not cutting or rolling them with very few days left in the golf season. One of the only negatives I have about the course is the cart paths, which I see from other reviews, is also one of the main issues. They are pretty beat up and will knock you around a bit, but don't let that stop you from playing this course. Also, the restaurant is not open at this time of year so grabbing food is not an option on the turn. The proshop did have a few snacks for sale but bring your own food and beverages. I will be back during the summer to see the course in it's full, true beauty!!!

Great course, great conditions and a fun round of golf

We played The Fort on our way out of Indy at 8:30am on a Sunday. The course was cart path only due to a large amount of rain the previous day. Completely understandable and not a problem. Yardage cards in the carts helped plenty with the distances and which clubs to take out with us if we had a long walk from the path. The course actually drained very well. The fairways were in perfect condition and got plenty of rollout. The rough wasn't to bad but some lies were tough due to the wet grass. Plenty of bunkers on the course, especially in the fairways making you drive the ball well off the tee. The greens weren't cut that day, I guess due to the rain fall. I used to work on a grounds crew so I can understand that the greens would have soft spots and the mowers can "dig" a bit, but I thought the crew could have at least whipped the dew off the greens. We played the first eight holes with water spitting up off the ball on putts and putting through footprints and ball lines on dewy greens. Once the sun finally came out and the dew burnt off, the greens started rolling at a nice and quick pace. That was the only negative for me during the round. We had a group in front of us that was slowing the whole course up on the front and the ranger took care of that. We had no issues with the pace after about the 6th hole. The two or three rangers that we saw were very polite and would stop and talk to us to make sure our round was going great. It was very welcoming to have that, although I know some players don't want to be bothered during a round.
All in all, each hole was memorable and had it's own character. There are 5 sets of tees (if I remember correctly) so play the correct tees and you will have a fun, challenging day of golf.

Fun, challenging course that will test your short game

I was in town on a little golf trip visiting family. I have being hearing from my father-in-law how great this course is. It did not disappoint. The condition of the course was pristine. The tee boxes were in great shape and there were plenty of tee box options to suit the low to high handicap. Playing the correct tee box and yardage will make your day more enjoyable. The fairways looked like a perfect green carpet and they got plenty of roll on the drives. The fairways are larger than they appear, but don't stray off the fairways due to the high fescue grass that eats golf balls. One thing that I really liked was the yardage cards in the golf carts that told you about the hole, showed the layout and carry distances. It was very helpful being this was the first time I played this course. The green complexes were very challenging, from the deep, high faced bunkers to the mounding and awkward lies if you missed a green. The greens rolled smooth and true and were rolling at a quicker than average pace. There are plenty of twists, turns and tiers on the greens, putting a premium on short game and putting. There is a halfway house between the 3rd and 12th holes. Grab a drink or snack after the 3rd hole because you won't go back to the clubhouse after the 9th. There are plenty of water coolers around the course to get a fill up. There was also a nice grass driving range and a large putting green. Take note of the slopes on the putting green and hit some large breaking putts up and down the slope. You'll be glad you did. I highly recommend this course and we will be back next year again on our trip.

Amazing layout, great conditions, fast greens

The course was in great condition. We got a deal off their website. We played at 1:30 on a Thursday afternoon and didn't see anyone until we got to hole 15 and caught up to a threesome. We played in 3 and half hours, even with hitting a few extra practice shots because no one was behind us. The fairways were in prefect shape, fairly large and got plenty of roll. The ball sat up nicely in them. The rough was very healthy, especially around the greens. The greens were rolling very quick, which I love. The ball would rollout very nicely, just had to start it on the right line. Even with the greens being fast, they held shots and you could get the ball to spin. The course itself has a good amount of elevation change but not enough that you have any blind tee shots or blind shots into greens. It is a large course and you won't see another hole on the hole you're playing. Just about each hole is tree lined so you will have a long day if you are spraying the ball off the tee. There is 5 sets of tees so play the correct one and you will have a fun round of golf. Get there early and take advantage of the grass driving range, chipping green with a bunker and a nice large putting green. Take note of the breaks and slope of the putting green and hit some of those long downhill putts, putts up and down a slope and putts with 10 feet of break. You'll be glad you did. Buy the yardage book also. Plenty of fairway bunkers and doglegs you need to know distances to, unless you have a GPS unit. The only downfall, which isn't a huge deal to me is that there isn't an "official" clubhouse. They have added a nice outdoor pavilion with TVs and a snack bar which was not there last year that I remember. Anyways, play this course. Great conditions and it will test your game.

Perfect golf course

My third time playing Wyncote. Each year, we visit family in the area and this course is on our must play list. The tees are in perfect condition and flat everywhere. The fairways looked like a perfect green carpet and gave some really nice roll out on the drives. The rough was tough in spots and don't stray too far off the fairways because on the high fescue grass. The greens rolled true and smooth at a better than average quickness. Each hole has it's own character. The course is bunkered very nicely, as a found a few that day but the sand was nice to hit out of and groomed. There is plenty options off the tee as long as you play the correct tees. The course would be a bear having to bomb drivers all day and hitting longer clubs into greens than how the hole was meant to be played, if that makes sense. There is a nice driving range with grass tees and a large green for putting and chipping. This course will remain on my list to play each year we travel to visit family.

Great conditions and fun golf course

It was my first time playing the course and I was very impressed. Not an overly difficult golf course and not to long. Played from the tips and it was very comfortable. It was pretty wide open with some small tree trouble on a few holes. The tees and fairways were in great shape. No bare spots, nice and green and the ball sat up nicely. The greens were just as good. Not overly quick but rolling at a decent pace. The par 3's on the course are pretty long but there isn't much trouble on them, besides number 8 I believe. You have to carry some brush and maybe a creek mixed in there. Plays downhill from an elevated tee and a shot the distance that day at 218 yards. A very cool feature to the course is "Amish Corner" on the back. There is a sign there letting you know you are entering. We traveled down to see family and booked this course for the first time this year. We will be back next year guaranteed!

Nice layout, terrible greens

I would have rated this course 4.5 if the greens were better. Terribly slow, full of ball marks, extremely soft, very fuzzy and a ton of spike marks all over every green. Downhill putts would come to a quick stop and putting through the spike marks was just fraustrating, either popping the ball straight up, or throwing it completely off line. We were told be staff they haven't aerated greens there in a long time. They should consider it or at least cutting and rolling their greens. As for the course, it is a nice layout. The front 9 is pretty wide open with the exception of the 4th. That was my favorite hole on the course. The back isn't terribly tight either with the exception of 17. There is plenty of elevation change from tee to green each hole. You will not have very many flat lies in the fairway or around the greens. The tee boxes need some work. They were long, some missing one tee marker, and it looked like the crew hasn't moved the tee markers in a week. The teeing ground was all chewed up and down to the sand on most tees. The fairways were decent. The grass seemed long and it was very spongy which made the course play longer than the yardage. The ball sat down in the fairways. The rough was tough in spots, especially the low areas. The bunkering was nice and pretty deep. Only found one greenside bunker and the sand was nice to get out of.

Buy the yardage book. There is a bunch of tough tee shots that can run through the fairways or you need to know carry distances to or over bunkers. Shoot for the 150 markers if you can see them and you'll be fine.

As for hole 16, it's a split fairway an awkward looking hole from the tee. The right fairway is higher than the left. Aim for the left because it's a blind shot into an awkward green with a big slop front left. The left fairway will give you the best look at the green if the pin is on the left of the green. Hole 17 is a very tough golf hole but a good one. Bomb a drive and you may still have 200 yards into the green. You can also run a ball through the fairway here if you are a big hitter and don't expect a flat lie once you get to it.

Overpriced

The course itself is nice and it has a nice layout. It is open, the fairways are wide and the greens are large and have some decent undulation. There isn't much trouble to get in, except some fairway bunkers, and it is a very comfortable course to play. The greens were slow the day we played, I guess due to some rain the night before. I don't know if they are always that slow since it was my first time playing the course, and just giving my first impression of everything. It was also cart path only, which was not fun because it is a very large course, sometimes walking I would say close to 100 yards from the cart path to get to your ball. Not fun when it is 95 degrees out. I get the cart path only thing is to keep the course nice. I used to work on a grounds crew so I can't be horribly mad about that. The reasons I would say it is overpriced.... I understand bent grass takes a little extra to take care of but the weeds on some collars and bare spots was a bit of a sore spot. The bunkers were in rough shape. It rained the night before but paying that price, I would think that the crew would be out in the morning getting them done. They were rock hard and not even playable if you hit into one. With the course being cart path only, I did not see very many yardage markings to at least give you some sort of idea to how far you had in. Maybe I missed them but I was looking. With it being 95 degrees out, I thought there could be a few more water coolers also on the course. One on the front on 7 I believe and one of the back about 15, although there was a beverage cart riding around and the lady was very nice.
Being that it was my first time playing the course, traveling an hour and a half to get there, looking at the website and reading reviews, I guess I had very high expectations. Maybe I just played on a bad day. I don't know. Just my first impressions of the course.

Typical Muni course

Typical muni course. The layout is nice and doesn't play to long. The fairways are a bit shaggy as well are the tees. The greens today were slow and hard. I hit a few high shots into greens that normally would have spun and stopped but there is no spinning shots on these greens. The 14th is an island green par 4 which is a cool hole and there are a bunch of nice holes but the condition hold this course back. Played on a Sunday at 4:30 and got through 18 holes in about 3 hours.

Great layout and conditions

A great course with beautiful views and a peaceful setting. Not a long course but accuracy is premium here. Sacrifice the distance to keep the ball in the short grass. The fairways were prefect and the ball sat up nicely. The greens were better than average speed and rolled very true. The course itself has a fair amount of elevation change but there are no tricked up holes or blind tee shots. Well worth the price.

Great conditions

Not and overly difficult course. It has wide fairways, fairly large greens and not too much tree trouble. The fairways were in great shape and the rough was not extremely deep. The greens were rolling decently quick and very true. Some greens had a decent amount of slope to them but held shots very nicely. There are a few holes where water comes into play. The sand traps were raked nicely as a found a few that day. it was a hot day and we saw the beverage cart a few times which was nice. They also provided water on the course. I would rate the course as a very comfortable course to play and would recommend the trip there for the great conditions.

Put this one on your bucket list

Great golf course, perfect conditions, and a challenging layout. The fairways were fairly wide but make sure you hit them. The rough is very penal. Go beyond the rough with a shot and you get yourself into tall fescue and will be lucky to find your ball. The greens were recently top dressed with a bit of sand but still rolled fast and true. They were some of the best greens I have ever putted on. The greens also held shots well and very fairly undulating. There were plenty of memorable holes and hard to chose a favorite. I did like the par 5 9th. A shorter par 5 with the risk/reward second shot over water to the green. The beverage cart was out in which we took advantage of that a few times on a hot day. Make sure you get there early and take advantage of the beautiful and large practice facility there. One of the best I have seen. I drove over 2.5 hours to play this course and I am going to take the drive again later this summer to play. It was that good.

Great course for the price

I play BRT a few times a year. The course is always in great shape. The fairways are medium width and the ball sits up nicely in them. Play from the correct tees the don't stray to far left or right. There is plenty of tree trouble in this course that winds through the woods. There is a few forced carries over water and wetlands and the course has plenty of elevation change from tee to green. The greens hold shots and roll at a very nice pace. The GPS on the carts is great because there is plenty of fairway and greenside bunkers that you need to know the distances to. Take the trip to this course.

Mount Airy

I read a ton of reviews on the course before playing it for the first time. It is an extremely hilly course, both up and down. We arrived a little early and the starter was able to get us out early as a twosome. It seems like this course really pushes the pace of play which is great. There is a sign outside the pro shop letting you know that and we also saw the ranger about 6 or 7 times during the round. Even at the turn, when ordering hotdogs and a candy bar, they bring it out to you on the course so that play does not stop moving.
First hole out of the gates is an up hill par 5 that you are looking up at. It has a pond that you cannot see right about the 150 marker. It is a tough hole to start on especially with no driving range. There is a few doglegs that drop down to the green. Some I would say around 50 feet. There is a lot of blind shots that would require you to play a few times to get your distances and clubs correct. There is a good amount of water on the course, which always keeps the round fun. I really did not think any of the holes were unfair but some of the design left me scratching my head.
The greens were in great shape, rolled very nicely but were a little hard and tough to hold. The fairways were in nice shape and the rough was a little patchy at times. Overall, the shape of the course was great

Disappointed

Crabgrass everywhere. The course has potential but I could not get into this one. It's a shorter course with a few par 4s that played over 400 (played from the back tees). I didn't mind the length of those holes but I never saw a course that would start the fairways at the 150 markers on longer holes. The pins were placed in some bad spots, as in right on top of mounds and a big slopes. I did like the speed of these greens. Greens have huge slopes in them and even a few two tiered greens in which the tier was close to 4-5 feet high, in which the pin was placed right on top of that. On a few occasions, if you didn't make the putt, even after hitting a good putt, the ball would roll right back to you. Not into that style of golf.

The staff was very friendly though, and pointed us in the right direction, as it was the first time playing this course.

River Run.... On the fence about this course

Nice course but I was not overly impressed. The greens were painfully slow and after reading a few reviews, I guess that is the way they keep them at River Run. The layout is fun from the mounding to the bunkering (thankfully I didn't find one at day) and shots with water coming into play. The fairways were in very good shape. You are given a card with the hole layouts and distances to bunkers and water hazards which comes in handy because there is plenty of doglegs which driver is not needed. Not an overly long course. The front 9 is open and the back is tighter. They push a 4 hour round pace there. We had no one in front of us and a foursome a hole behind us going into the 12th hole and a ranger stopped us on the tee and asked us to pick our play up. That puzzled us because we finished our round in 3 hours and 45 minutes exactly. I got the round for a $29 hot deal on GolfNow on a Thursday at noon. I would play this course again at that rate but I don't think I would pay to much more than that.
