Plenty of water, just not going on the fairways. Most bunkers were very muddy. Several had standing water in them at noon on a day when it was 86 degrees. Photo submitted by danstone360 on 07/25/2015

Fairways were awful. Not because of the drought. This course has reclaimed water and it was very muddy in many places. Seems like their grounds crew is off for 2015. Photo submitted by danstone360 on 07/25/2015
Revere Golf Club - Lexington Course
Played On 06/04/2023Would be a good test if conditions were good
Played the Reverse Course. Too many holes had blind tee shots and you are not rewarded for good tee shots because of the severe undulations created by the course architect.. In other words, super sloped areas turn mediocre (not bad) shots into penalties. Courses with this much slope can't hold water so even though we played in early June it was very brown all over. Just frustrating to hit good shots but have them end up in the desert or bunkers. Cart GPS only had distance to middle of greens, not flags. One and done for me at this course.
Franklin Canyon Golf Course
Played On 02/24/2021Lots of Hardpan
I only play this course when I'm working on my game and pay around $30. It's never in good shape but it is a good course to walk and get some exercise and it's close to where I live. Keeping score is ill advised as you're frequently hitting off hardpan lies and today it looked as though the greens were recently aerated and done so poorly (i.e., they didn't sand the greens to fill in the aeration holes!). I would recommend this course if you're playing a match play with friends as then your score against par doesn't really matter.

Played On 01/20/2021Fantastic Conditions. Slow Play.
Got stuck behind a mini tournament. That was the only negative of the round. We did not see a marshall on the back nine and that might have helped.

Played On 01/17/2021Slow But Beautiful
Perfect weather made the five and one-quarter hour round worth it. However, that was a lot of waiting at both par 3s and a couple of par 4s. Love the layout and for wintertime the conditions were acceptable for this area. I had many hardpan lies, but I was expecting this. We saw the beverage cart twice and a skunk after the 18th green doing its skunk thing (not a problem). Lots of cool looking ducks in the many water hazards.
Paradise Valley Golf Course
Played On 01/15/2021Better Than Most
Really fun course layout. At least two holes have trees in the fairway. More water than most courses in the area. Flat and walkable. Winter conditions better than most courses. Lots of ducks, geese, egrets and hawks but no birdies for me. Wind played a big part in my round, especially the northern portion of the course. Wind ate 40 yards off my driver on a par 4.
Rancho Solano Golf Course
Played On 01/14/2021Great condition!
Played in 4’45” and got lucky with high 60s weather in January! By far the best course conditions I’ve encountered in recent months in the region. Beverage cart came by three times too. Just a stellar round.

Love this course layout. The conditions make it even more challenging (lots of brown spots/hardpan).
The #1 handicap par 5 is my nemesis :-(
Franklin Canyon Golf Course
Played On 11/22/2020Lots of Hardpan
Bunkers are very inconsistent and there are no rakes per Covid regulations. Course has more hardpan that ever before. Greens were in decent shape. I wish they'd charge a rate that would allow them to maintain this course. Great layout but terrible conditions.
The Bridges Golf Club
Played On 11/02/2020Terrible Conditions
The greens were basically unplayable. It looked like they scarified (?) instead of aerated and sanded the usual way. I'm not an expert, put I've played on many recently-punched greens that are totally playable. There were many parts of the course that were muddy and at the same time tons of dirt and hardpan where there should have been grass. My drive on #16 plugged in the middy fairway first week in November, where there had been no rain since Spring. Tee boxes were almost all in terrible shape and they often had three boxes all together. They really need to shut this course down and fix the issues.
Black Horse at Bayonet/Black Horse Golf Course
Played On 07/19/2020Beautifully Tough
Narrow fairways, thick lush rough and undulating greens. Short but very challenging.

Played On 06/27/2020Mud or Dirt You Pick
The fairways are very dry, but they are green. Instead of rough there is hardpan, but there is also mud thanks to irrigation issues on multiple holes. Nothing marked ground under repair so it's up to you and your playing partners how you want to deal with the conditions. This is a wonderful layout and sad that it's been in disrepair for so long. Driving range is about 200 yards long before a big hill so you don't see the full flight of a driver or anything you hit over 200 yds unless you aim to the right.

Played On 05/27/2018Getting Worse!
Today the driving range was closed without notice.
Could have posted on the website, Facebook, called or emailed those with tee times booked in advance. The design of the driving range is terrible and ripe for balls getting lost, but this is a known issue that apparently has escaped management. They have balls "on order" but apparently didn't anticipate the need. No offer was made to compensate players for the inconvenience. Way to care about your customers Troon! Easy thing would have been to offer a free small bucket of balls when I come back. Total blown opportunity. I won't be back any time soon and probably will not renew my Troon Card membership.
Lake Tahoe Golf Course
Played On 08/13/2017Got stung by yellowjackets otherwise nice round
There was a yellowjacket nest in the left greenside bunker of the 15th hole. I find it hard to believe I was the first one to notice this as it was a well-developed nest, but c'est la vie.
Course is not long, but challenging because the fairways are narrow with the rough encroaching (i.e., narrow landing areas) much more than you perceive at the tee box. I hit numerous straight drives with irons off the tee to be safe only to find I was in the rough where it curved into the middle of the hole.
My iOS GPS golf app wasn't a huge help in determining where the shortgrass was. The 17th green was in bad shape otherwise the greens were in decent condition. I felt the putting green was faster than the actual greens.
The Sea Ranch Golf Links
Played On 08/21/2016Sad Drought Conditions
If this course was in great conditions it would be a challange. Definitely not a "resort course." Given the lack of watering and lack of maintenance (can't blame it entirely on the drought) this course plays much much harder. I had no less than three decent shots kick off of sloped hardpan into junk and lost.
Definitely recommend playing from the white tees your first time out even if you're a single-digit handicap. I am a 15 hdcp and made the mistake of going from the blues and played by myself so no course knowledge other than an iPhone GPS app, which tells nothing about conditions of course. lots of blind teeshots. I shot a 94 with only one three-putt on 18. Greens were in great shape with painted-in white holes like on Tour. Bunkers were packed, wet dirt as far as I could tell. Rest of the course was poor with hardpan and weeds where there should be fairway. I'm not talking about areas they're purposely not watering like the first 100yds or so of a par 4 just past the tee boxes. We're talking landing areas and 100 in from the green where you'd hit a wedge.
The course was nearly empty on a Sunday during summer. So it was very strange for the gentleman in the proshop to tell me I couldn't move my teetime to play a little later in the morning without paying more (I got a discounted web rate). Any other near empty course I've played usually has a "thank you for playing here" attitude and this guy seemed to miss that memo.
If you stay in the Sea Ranch / Gualala area this is the only course. Just beware and pray for rain and perhaps a new irrigation system for the course. Bring lots of extra balls and an attitude to match.

Moorpark Country Club - The Canyon Crest Golf Course
Played On 09/18/2015Great Drought Conditions
Such a beautiful course and facility. Definitely a country club that's open to the public. I'd play here al the time if I lived in the area. I especially loved the grass driving range, which was green and not a big dirt field where it's hard to see your ball land.
Lost a few balls, but it was my first time playing and I stayed on the white tees.
Brentwood Golf Club - Creekside/Hillside Course
Played On 07/25/2015They've Given Up
The drought is no excuse for the horrendous conditions at Brentwood GC now. Huge brown patches AND waterlogged areas including super muddy bunkers with standing water (see my photos). Giants unmowed weed patch areas in the middle of fairways. I will say the greens were in great condition, but even for $35 through GolfNow, it's no longer worth it.

Like the layout and reasonable green fees, but the course is in poor condition and so is the driving range (mats sorely need replacing). Toss up as to whether I'll be back given the conditions and approaching summer months.

Played On 05/24/2014Ask Before You Tee
Three tee boxes were under construction and the temporary teeing areas were a joke, was wasn't even mowed down. No warning of this was given on GolfNow or by course staff.
Course itself was very green due to overwatering (wet bunkers with standing water on #4, muddy fairways, holes filled with water).
Pace of play was great on the front 9 and fair on the back 9. Paid full price and was not happy about that.
Brentwood Golf Club - Creekside/Hillside Course
Played On 05/10/2014Amazing Value
For about $40 with cart, played in a three some with little or no waiting at the tee boxes on a Saturday morning. Wind makes this course challenging otherwise is a lovely resort-style experience. Relatively short I've played from both whites and blues and would for sure play blues going forward (I'm a 17 handicap).
Some of the distances from green to the next teebox are quite far. Probably best to go with a cart, especially given the low price.
