Rancho Duarte Golf Club
Played On 07/03/2021Fix the tee boxes and the attitude
You're "welcomed" by people who seem bored and uninterested.
The tee boxes are in horrible shape. They are mostly weeds and/or dirt. Some are not even level. They're almost unplayable. The course must know it's a problem because they seem to have thrown out some mats to tee of of but even the mats seems haphazard.
Most of the greens are in okay shape but some have patches of missing grass. The fairways are okay.
It's pretty much full price no matter what time i.e., no twilight pricing.
Omni La Costa Resort & Spa - Legends Course
Played On 06/17/2018Golf as it Should Be
Omni La Costa was great. The grounds leading up to the course are very impressive. The valet took my clubs from the trunk of my car and down to the carts. He also asked if I had played there before and gave me directions to the pro shop. While getting to the pro shop was a little convoluted it was not to bad. I was attended to quickly and professionally. It was a busy day but the quickly got me and my bags onto a cart and pointed me to the driving range and 1st tee. Balls for the driving range were included so I warmed up as much as I liked. I rolled a few on the putting green and felt the greens as smooth and FAST. The starter was a little prickly but helpful. There are a few forced carries when you tee off and ditches to clear on approach but overall nothing overwhelming. The fairways were fantastic; fluffy and green. The greens were like glass. After the round, they took my clubs from the cart to the valet station while I visited the 19th hole. A great experience.
Eaton Canyon Golf Course
Played On 05/06/2018Surly closing
I heard that there has been some discussion of closing Eaton so I decided to see what it was it was like. I now understand at least some of the issues; the staff has already checked out. When I first showed up I had to wait for the starter who was in the bar.
The course was okay. A few dry spots but the greens are in good shape.
After 9 holes i went in for breakfast. They gave me the wrong menu then they didnt have what I ordered off the menu. The cook was tne bartender too as the bartender/ waitress was complaining about gow she didnt want to work Sundays. She may soon get her wish including not working Monday througj Saturday, too.
El Prado Golf Courses - Chino Creek
Played On 08/06/2017Explosive Play
I really liked the course. Nice variety of hole layouts. Some water but no forced carries, some sand but not obnoxious. Unfortunately, I think it's near a gun range because I hear guns being fired constantly in the distance. It was just enough of a distraction that I wouldn't go back.
The "gunshots" come from the Prado 1984 LA Olympic shooting range, south of this golf course. For the money, this course is fantastic and very well kept. I highly recommend it for some inexpensive golf on an uncrowded course with beautiful and peaceful scenery.
Rancho Duarte Golf Club
Played On 01/08/2017Maintainance
The course has a decent driving range where you play from mats. Plenty of people were coming out for the driving range. The pro shop looked half empty and run down.
This course has par 4s and 3s. Some holes were extremely short. My biggest surprise was that they had removed almost all the sand traps but left the indentation of where the bunkers were. Also, the signage was bad. Overall the course looked run down.
The club house looked the best maintained part of this location. The players and staffing were friendly. "Golf Attire" did not seem required.
Buenaventura Golf Course
Played On 12/18/2016Windy Hot deal
Was in the area and thought I squeeze in a round. It's was a VERY windy day but you can't fault the course for that. There are a lot of sand traps and some water that makes this course a little interesting. Other than that, it struck me as a very "municipal" feeling golf course. Pretty flat and straight ahead. The greens, however, were in FANTASTIC shape.
Los Amigos Country Club
Played On 11/26/2016Slow pace & rough greens
I understand convenient courses get lots of players; what i dont get is why these courses do not have marshalls to help with the pace of play. I couldnt finish my round because it started to rain at hole 16; a little quicker pace and I could've finished
The greens are ROUGH. Your ball is going to bounce around on every green.
Is this worth over $50? Not really.
However if you can get it at a discount it may be worth it. It is a regulation length course with plenty of bunkers and a couple of water carries. The fairways are in good shape and lots of friendly people.
Oak Quarry Golf Club
Played On 11/12/2016Slow Play and challenging
Beautiful course. There were some dry spots in place and the greens could've been smoother but I'm just being nit picky. The biggest problem was the pace of play: we had to wait at almost every other hole for one and sometime two foursomes to tee off; and NEVER saw a marshall. It was a tough course; you had to hit the fairway or you were going into a ravine and losing your ball on most holes. Thankfully, there were not too many forced carries to getting to the fairway wasn't too bad. I would play it again once my game gets better and hope for a quicker pace.
Number One at Brookside Golf Club
Played On 11/01/2015Quantity over Quality
It's clear that Brookside no longer cares about the golfer experience. They keep overbooking the course, creating fivesomes, and just making for a lousy day. My group of three:
1. Had our 9:30 am tee time pushed back by 30 minutes because of a tournament.
2. Got paired with a two some so now we're a fivesome. Fivessomes slow up play but it lets the course cram more people on.
3. Beverage cart service was almost non-existent.
4. Water coolers (on a warm day) were empty.
5. Had to wait at almost every hole to tee off because it was so backed up.
6. NEVER say a marshall/ambassador.
7. Ended the round at 4:30 PM. Go back to number 1. We started at 9:30 am. Yes, that's right it took 7 hours to play 18 holes. Look at the list again, no marshal, water cooler, cart, waiting at ever hole for SEVEN hours.
Alhambra Municipal Golf Course
Played On 10/18/2015Green
The grass is green and the fairways are pretty wide. A couple of the greens had a lot of divots but other than that the place was in great shape. I think they had a class out in the putting area so it was difficult to practice putting. Only one hole where water is a challenge.
Altadena Golf Course
Played On 10/11/2015Quality 9 holes
This is one of the better kept courses considering the drought. Perhaps the recent rains helped but overall the course was in good shape. A couple of the greens could have use a little mowing and upkeep but overall it was a good course. We were stuck behind a group of three foursome that slowed down our play with no marshals in sight...
Frisco Lakes Golf Club
Played On 09/06/2015Hot and Bothered
Set lakeside I was hoping for a beatific day of golf but that is not what I got. The biggest issue was the staff. They were surly when they should have been much more contrite. 1) They ran out of range balls. I've never been to a golf course with a range run out of range balls. The machine wasn't broken; they just didn't have anyone willing to go out and get them. 2) It was a blistering hot day (over 100 degrees) and they only had TWO water station for all 18 holes and both were EMPTY. Only two water stations borders on negligent. 3) One of the golfers shanked a ball and hit the fence of house next to the fairway. The owner made a snide comment. NEWSFLASH: when you live on a golf course the question is not IF your house is gonna get hit with a golf ball, it WHEN.
The positives: the greens were outstanding! With the drought in CA, it had been months since I had seen grass so green!.The fairways were nice and wide which made it easier. They did have several forced carries over water which made it tough. The course is lakeside so it's very pretty. The beverage cart and 19th hole staff were nice.
Arcadia Golf Course
Played On 08/30/2015Remodel the 'tude as well!
The course is hidden away down an alley so don't look for it off the street. The club house is being remodeled so don't look for much in terms of supplies. You will find a lot of suspicion as the the pro will pepper you with questions. The marshal will chat you up so don't look for fast play.
Industry Hills Golf Club at Pacific Palms Resort - Zaharias Course
Played On 08/16/2015Resort in Industry Hills
Industry Hills is not an affluent area of Los Angeles so it was a little disconserting to find a very nice full resort in Industry Hills with hotel, spa, and golf course!. I wasn't crazy about some of the layout; for example, the Pro Shop is in the back of the hotel with limited signage so you'll be hunting around a little. The staff was generally very helpful, if sparse. On a full 18 hole, 72 par course, we say the beverage cart once at the 15th hole on the hottest day of the year. The fairways were in good shape but the greens could use more attention. There are lots of elevation changes with tee boxes and hold at different elevations as the course is on a hillside. There are two holes with long focred carries that swallowed two of my golf balls. One odd thinkg is that the golf carts are closeley monitored so if you drive where you're not supposed to you're cart will slow to a crawl leaving you to believe that the cart is out of power. Overall, a pretty course with some nice amenities.
Encino at Sepulveda Golf Complex
Played On 08/08/2015Good time
This course is expansive. It has several large putting greens and a wide driving range. It was not overly crowded. I thought the fairways were in good shape and the greens were okay. However, other amenities are in need of support. It is a little dated, the restrooms need updating and they have three range ball machines; one for each size of bucket. There are beverage locations through out the course but they've all been closed down. I never saw a beverage cart. The 19th Hole, however, was pleasant. The Starter Cage personell was surly.
Eaton Canyon Golf Course
Played On 07/26/2015Fun Times
I've played Eaton several times now. It's a great 9 hole course with some tricky par 3s and long par 5s. Great way to get in some golf when time is limited.
DeBell Golf Club
Played On 01/11/2015I'm a mudder!
Went out immediately following a (rare) rainstorm and we had the course to ourselves; thus the Pace of Play was excellent. The course was not pristine but it's better than some other golf courses in the area. I liked the "curvy" course because it works for my lack of a drive. On many holes you don't want to drive very far because the course curves. Therefore my short drives were "on par" with the other long ball hitters because they had to set-up too! While not expensive it ain't cheap either so it's a good value for the money.
Monterey Park Golf Course
Played On 12/07/2014Great driving range but I hate the greens
The driving range here is fantastic; the best I've been to but I hate the greens on the course. Most of them have crazy slopes seemed designed to do nothing but frustrate a golfer. The green on hole 7 reminds me more of a miniature golf green; all it needs is a windmill.
Thank you DrGonzalez for playing with us and for the great review! We appreciate your support and hope to see you out again soon. Dustin
