Course good. Play slow. Crowded. Cart fee should be included. Friendly staff.
The Greens at Deerfield
Played On 09/04/2018No Greens at Deerfield
Poorly maintained, confusingly marked and bafflingly designed, The Greens at Deerfield has to be one of the worst courses in the country, The course design wedges holes into a bizarre layout with an overuse of elevated tees and narrow landing areas. The greens at present are a travesty. The signage is not helpful. I cannot recommend this course. I'm grateful that I'm only out 20 bucks. Disappointed.
Deerfield Golf Club

Deerfield Golf is a terrific course and in excellent condition. I do think the greens could made faster. My biggest complaint is the pace of play. Though a single, I was grouped with a single walker and pair of college grads (one could hit the ball a mile and in play). We all played at a good pace and kept up with the very slow walking foursome ahead of us. (No putt was given away by these guys.) Ahead of them was an extremely slow, elderly twosome that was holding that group up. We finally skipped 13 and jumped past the elderly twosome and played the final holes in about 35 minutes. I think a marshal could have mitigated this knot of golfers as we proceeded around the course. I generally don't like to report other golfers...but here was an extreme case that should have been dealt with. Our round ended up being about 4 hour 20 minutes. Had we not skipped and played through...it would definitely exceeded 5 hours. Too long for a round of golf.
The Preserve Golf Club

Our foursome had a great morning and were impressed by the pace of play. We got around in 3:45. Nice. Greens were sandy but fast and puttable. A couple holes were a bit Mickey Mouse with the trouble. One hiccup-one pair in our foursome had a cart power failure between 17 and 18 and walked to the the next tee. When staff man was told, he was angry that it hadn't been called in. The attitude was off-putting and unnecessary. Called in or not...someone was going to have to go retrieve that cart.
