Lonnie Poole Golf Course at North Carolina State University
Played On 01/09/2016great layout
played on a wet drury day on a 40 dollar voucher which was a good deal. Course plays long and is challenging. Lots of sand. Course was in ok shape for being in January. Greens were very large and rolled true. Pace of play was great due to bad weather.
I would play it again gladly.
Cholla Course at We-Ko-Pa Golf Club
Played On 12/29/2015Really unique design
I played both courses in one day. Segauro is straight forward not very challenging design. Cholla is very unique. Some blind shots and some difficult par 3's. Course was in great condition, greens rolled true and pretty quick. Great views off in the distance. Approach shots are pretty tight and can be penalizing.
My only complaint would be the $. 175.00 to play here is a bit much but it is a very good golf course.
Quintero Golf Club
Played On 12/28/2015awesome greens
This course is in the middle of nowhere but worth a 45 minute drive. Great practice area. Condition of the course was as good as a private country club. Greens were really fast. Ive never played a public course with greens this fast. Very unique layout, generous fairways but some tight approach shots. Errant shots are penalized heavily-either lost in the desert or in a bunker.
I would love to play this course again and again. I rarely give a course 5 stars but this is deserving!
12 Oaks
Played On 10/29/2015Challenging
Private course-really nice greens that roll true and good speed. Practice facilities are fantastic.
Pace of play was pretty good but it was just a thursday around noon. Fairways are in good shape. Narrow approach shots and a good amount of water hazards. Hole #11 is a beautiful par 3 that is about 200 yards and very narrow with water hazard.
The course is walkable but not easy. Back 9 has a good amount of space between some holes.
Good course overall I look forward to playing again.
Elk Ridge Golf Course
Played On 09/11/2015Very pretty course
Played elk ridge in about low 50's weather and the course was pretty wet. Greens were very slow but conditions may have played into it.
Besides that it was a good day. Very pretty views of lake. Course was in great shape. Very challenging pretty narrow fairways and many dog legs.
Value for 55 dollars was very fair. Course is pretty flat although the par 3 with the bunker shaped like a pig was pretty steep and fun.
I recommend you play this course despite it being in the middle of nowhere if you get the chance.
Forest Dunes Golf Club
Played On 09/10/2015Excellent course
Played on a Thursday at 3pm for 100 bux. That's a pretty good deal for this course. Club house is beautiful. Everyone from the guy at check in to the ranger were very nice.
Course is two different nines. The front is Forest and the back is dunes. I enjoyed the variety of holes-very pretty holes with water as well. My favorite thing about this course was the greens. Very fast but rolled true. Very playable course-pretty open fairways but approach shots to greens were well guarded.
We ate dinner at the club house after the golf and it was awesome. Very good service and even better food.
Can't wait to come back and play here when the new course is up and running!
The Ravines Golf Club
Played On 09/09/2015Really solid course
We played for 55 a piece through golf now on a Wednesday morning. Practice facilities were very good. Staff was friendly and accommodating.
Course was in very good shape. Many blind tee shots due to high grass/weeds. Greens were fast and difficult. Rough is penal. Pretty open off the tee but approach shots that are long or short are swallowed up by bunkers every time.
Pretty flat course but solid character. I do recommend!
Rivers Edge Golf Club
Played On 05/15/2015awesome views
Beautiful course and great views. The back 9 gets really scenic and has some great angles. Hole #9 is the hardest aproach to the green I have ever seen-very narrow.
I would give this 4 stars but the condition of the course was not great and the greens roll at a snail pace.
Duke University Golf Club
Played On 05/04/2015quickest greens in triangle
Played on a Monday afternoon for 50 dollars plus 10 for a pull cart. The rate was fair but don't bother with the pull carts, they are really bad. Otherwise great course layout. The greens were rolling at about an 11. Do not end up above the hole on your approach shots, its impossible to slow ball down.
Sand bunkers are in great shape. Fairways are in bad shape but so are all of the courses around here this time of year. Very playable-wide open fairways but approach shots can get tight with many well-placed bunkers.
Pace of play was just OK-we did wait a bit on the back 9 but not terrible. Overall this is a good track and I will play it again...
The Neuse Golf Club
Played On 05/03/2015Problem with pace of play
Pace of play has been an issue at the neuse lately according to many posts. It was terribly slow today. We were out there for 4 hours and were not done with 14 holes yet. We quit because we couldn't take it anymore.
Layout is great and so are people. Fairways need some work right now but greens are in good shape. Great course for a great price but pace of play is major issue...
Talking Stick Golf Club - Piipaash Course
Played On 02/14/2015Terrible pace of play
We played a 5 hour round and waited at every hole throughout the round. No one out there to monitor pace of play.
The course itself is in good shape but nothing special with the layout. Pretty much a grip and rip course-wide open fairways. par 3's are long but pretty good. Price was 175 dollars for a very average course so the value was bad.
Eagle Mountain Golf Club
Played On 02/13/2015Fairways are really bad
I read other reviews of this course before playing. A lot of them talks about the poor fairways. We called the shop and they said "only about 4-5 of them are bad"
Trust me-about 16 of them are bad. The sodding done on a lot of them looks terrible and obviously stops your ball from a true roll. The course itself is beautiful and the layout is great. Greens were great as well. For the money you can play other courses with good fairways in the area. If they don't fix this issue they are going to lose a lot of business...
Dinosaur Mountain at Gold Canyon Golf Resort
Played On 02/12/2015Beautiful
We played for $100 which was a good deal. Course scenery is beautiful. Course was in perfect shape. Pace of play was ok. Practice range was lousy making you hit from crummy old mats but that is my only complaint.
I played 5 courses on my trip and this was the best. Greens are very challenging and hard to read. Par 3 downhill from 246 yards was one of the best holes I have ever played-great for pictures!
Wildwood Green Golf Course
Played On 12/21/2014Coming from a member
I am a member of this course so I think my opinion should carry some weight.
The staff is friendly and wonderful. The course itself is a nice layout but only in ok shape. The driving range is my biggest complaint. It runs right next to hole 1 so you have a chance of being hit by a ball while on the 1st hole.
After that the course is pretty good. There are 2 great par threes over water. Only 2 par 5 on the course so you do not need every club in your bag for this course.
Pace of play during in season is very bad. There are a lot of hackers who play there so be prepared to take your time. The pace of play off season is pretty good.
I recommend this course if you temper your expectations for pace and play and condition of greens...
Dormie Club
Played On 12/11/2014Best in pine hurst area
Really great golf course. If you are going to dormie for just a great round of golf this is your place. The clubhouse is primitive at best. Not a lot of yardage markers and no ball washers but the layout and design of the course we're awesome. Great elevation changes and a fair amount of undulation on greens.
One quick tip. Hole #7 is confusing to find. Signs are lacking so ask club house before teeing off about which way to go after leaving hole 6....
Ballyhack Golf Club
Played On 09/16/2014Bucket list
This course is beautiful. I was lucky enough to play and stay at the cottages as a guest. I felt like I was not worthy.
The course is very challenging and intimidating off many of the tees. You will need every club in your bag. Avoid the rough if you can-it's very thick. Uneven lies throughout the fairways. Great elevation changes and tricky greens.
The course is kind of in the middle of nowhere and maybe this is why it does not get more recognition but it should be rated higher by golf digest. Ranked number 7 in the state is a joke. This course is spectacular.
For higher handicappers you have to temper expectations. I am a 16 handicap so I understood to play the right tees from the start...
Thank you so much for coming out on a less than ideal day. We hope you get the chance to come back and visit on a sunny day soon!
