Dolphin Head Golf Course
Played On 11/28/20162 outing on the same day
I was sold a tee time for 3 PM, expecting the crowd to be gone by that hour. However, management had run TWO outings that day, and when I arrived no cart was available. Late starting day trippers like myself crowded the course because of the two previous outings, and play was extremely slow as a result. Management should not sell 18 hole tee times for mid-to late-afternoon rounds when they know that 18 holes cannot be completed before the sun goes down.
Golden Bear Golf Club at Indigo Run
Played On 11/21/2016Golden Bear good value for the money
Played Golden Bear today. As you might expect of a Nicklaus designed layout, the course is well laid out and maintained. Biggest problem experienced was SLOW PLAY. No one was in a hurry, event hough the hours of sunlight were diminishing rapidly, and no one cared one bit about those waiting behind them to hit. No marshals were anywhere on the course to keep play moving, so pace of play was set by the slowest of the slow foursomes. Anyone wanting to play this course should play 9 holes at a time late in the afternoon when all the slow players have gone home for the day and you have the course to yourself.
The Legends Golf Course at Parris Island
Played On 10/14/2016Worth the drive from Hilton Head
The Legends is a well-maintained course, very playable for a reasonable price. If you play, stop by the Santa Elena memorial and Spanish fort site down a short distance. from the clubhouse.
Eisenhower Lakes Golf Club - Island View Nine
Played On 10/09/2016Play this course if you get the chance
Gordon Lakes is a RTJ course that is as good or better than as any upscale public course you'll ever play. Don't pass up a chance to play this course.
The Legends Golf Course at Parris Island
Played On 10/04/2016Well maintained, decent challenge, fast greens
Well maintained course, a decent challenge for average golfers, some water, great views of the surround salt marsh, fast greens. Worth the drive from Hilton Head.
Mary Calder Golf Club
Played On 08/23/2016Shadow of its former self
I grew up in Savannah playing this course when it was owned and maintained by the Union Camp Corp as a semi-public facility primarily for the enjoyment of UC employees and their families. Now owned and operated by International Paper Corp, IP has decreed that the course must be self-supporting, which is to say, it's poorly maintained and as such a shadow of its former self. Better to turn it into a wildlife refuge than to maintain it in its present poor condition.
Thank you for your feedback. We assure you this is not the standard we strive to achieve. We are constantly working on course conditions and look forward to having you back soon.
Mary Calder Golf Club
Played On 08/23/2016Sad state of affairs
Once upon a time Mary Calder GC was a pretty decent 9 hole course, put there and supported by its previous owner, the Union Camp Corporation, for the enjoyment of its employees. Now, under the neglectful ownership of Union Camp's successor corporation, International Paper Corporation, Mary Calder is a poorly maintained shadow of its former self. If you're looking for cheap golf and poor playing conditions, play this course.
Thank you for your feedback. We assure you this is not the standard we strive to achieve. We are constantly working on course conditions and look forward to having you back soon.
Country Land Golf Course
Played On 11/24/2015Nice course
Nice course, very hilly, maintenance level a c+, fast greens. Rewards straight drives and a decent short game.
Elks Golf Course
Played On 05/08/2015Nice, well maintained 9 hole course
Nice, well maintained 9 hole course. Fast greens, mostly poa ana, well-maintained bunkers. Local knowledge - bird houses used as 150 yardage markers on side of fairways. Cart is NOT included with green fee. Muni style poorly maintained club house. Carts run on gas - hestitated starting, then moved. Best idea observed - short pieces of PVC piping are used to hold sand rakes in place vertically when not in use.
Seminole Lake Country Club
Played On 01/30/2015Driving range not open to public
Must pay member for a day rate of $65 to use driving range. This requirement is not posted on web site. Staff member I dealt with was not friendly or supportive in his responses to my questions.
Thank you for your kind remarks. And you're right...the Santa Elena memorial and the fort are both great pieces of American history!
