Going Downhill
Have played this course about 20 times, but this was the first time under the new ownership. I had heard that the course conditions had improved, but I feel the exact opposite. The greens were not rolling well and there were a ton of divots that patrons apparently refuse to fix, as well as several greens with dead/bare spots. The fairways also had a lot of weed growth along with a lot of dead/bare areas. I want this course to be the hidden gem outside of the QC area, but unfortunately a lot of work is going to need to be done before that can happen. I am hoping the new owners will realize the enormity of the project they took on, and will invest money into the maintenance of the course. The layout is fantastic and this can easily become one of the best courses in the area, but there is a lot that has to be done before that comes to fruition. Luckily we played on a Hot Deal rate of $25/each (including cart and fees). At this point, this course is no where near being worth the rack rate of $50+ on the weekend (with cart).
Red Hawk Golf Course
Played On 10/8/2013Great Short Course
This is a great course if you are just looking to get in a quick 9 holes. Walked the course in the afternoon in about an hour and 45 minutes. Not a difficult course by any means, but a great course to play if you are looking to get some wood/driver work off the tee into a wedge/short iron 2nd shot (never used a long iron on the entire course). Hard to tell fairway from "rough" at some points (as the "rough" is actually really short) but the condition of the course is great for a short, park district owned course. Also a great place to bring the youngsters who are just starting out. The course also has a short 3-hole practice area when you can teach your kids the game.
Coyote Run Golf Course
Played On 9/28/2013Pleasantly Surprised
I didn't know much about this course before I played it with the exception of reading the reviews on various websites. I was very pleasantly surprised with the condition of the course for it's location. Fairways and greens were both very well maintained and smooth. Some challenging holes and a lot of fun to play. A couple of drivable par 4s make the risk/reward factor pretty high. This is definitely a course I would consider playing again. Pace of play was also very good for a Saturday late morning/early afternoon.
Rating Notes: If there was a selection between "Maintained" and "Pristine" for Course Conditions I would have chosen that. Also, if there was a selection between "Average" and "Great" for Value for the Money, I would have chosen that as well.
TPC Deere Run
Played On 8/23/2013Great PGA TOUR Course!
Best course in the Quad Cities with the friendliest staff as well! This course is a gem in an area where you wouldn't except a course of this caliber. Very scenic with some very challenging holes. However, the course is very fair and can still be played by novice/intermediate/amateur golfers. Maintenance of this course is immaculate and the rates are very reasonable.
